There's a big difference, between an arcade and arcade machines warehouse...
I've been at Pinball Hall of Fame a couple of times a decade ago, in the old building at Tropicana Av, and yes I believe it was smaller but still had that arcade aura.
The new location, as good as it is, looks like it as became "just" a giant warehouse museum. No decoration, no darkend areas, no color lighting, no fancy lounge and even ask for silence (!), really⁉️
Came on people, the last few years where really hard on the business, but nowadays there are an increasingly number of real arcade locations, nicely decorated, full of fun and noises.
    Cheers 🇵🇹

Maybe, just maybe, adults shouldn't be spoken to with phrases meant for young children? Just a thought. There's always a right way, and a wrong way, to do things.

“use your inside voices”?! This is an arcade not a library! 🤦‍♂️

So no trash-talking while playing a fighting game?? LAME.

The stories I've heard about this place make the place feel like it's just a grumpy old man's private arcade collection that he reluctantly allows people to play so he can earn money...rather than an actual arcade business. 😂

the problem with the broken machines, is the technicians dont get paid, it's mostly volunteer, they never have more than 1-2 techs and it can take a whole day to fix 1 machine, and with shipping problems, some can take months. unfortunately, 5-10 machines can go down each day, while it takes way longer to get them back up running, so it's a losing, uphill battle. Im also pretty sure that the pinball museum is a non profit org. i even think the city of las vegas is helping out with that location. P.S., please tell Justin that it's called the MUN STERS with a U. not Monsters. lol.😂

I had 3 real machines and they would all go down and then take a month to repair. It was depressing and why I sold them to someone who enjoys that Sadomasochism lol I now hope to get a digital one in 4k with OLED 120hz and maybe ar glasses.

@@eldenringer6466 I live in Henderson which is next door to Vegas. You'd think this place would be overflowing with slot techs just dying for business. I've called three of them and 2 of the 3 just completely blew me off - the third showed up long enough to do a temporary fix to a slant top I have then promised to show back up in a month to fix that machine and two others I had that needed fixing. Nope - never heard from him again.

I just went there recently myself. It was fun, but like you said many of the machines were not working. Hopefully they’ll get more of them fixed as time goes on.

It’s like they are strictly running a business without the love for arcades and pinball. You definitely can own and run a business without loving the industry and products you provide, but it’s just strange in this business now a days, because we just never see that. I’ve been to many arcades in CA and OR and I’ve never encountered owners or workers that didn’t get excited when I started talking shop and nostalgia with them. A lot of times I end up talking with them the same amount of time that I actually play their games.

Every other arcade I've been too, I loved talking to the staff or operators about games!

Brought my two kids. They got ahead of me at one point. A worker there told me to keep my kids with me at all times. I said I would and apologized. I complied with this directive but after that the employee stalked us and harassed us to the point we had to leave. For example they actually told me I couldn't let my son walk in front of me and I had to walk with him down the isle. As a local I used to go there once a month. I haven't been back there in over a year.

do not make eye contact with the workers... do not attempt to talk to the workers... most of the games are broken... it's gotta be the worst "arcade" in existence at this point!

Wow, my experience was definitely not most of the peoples here. I never went to the old building, but went to the new one in 2022 or early 2023 (can't remember). I had a frickin' blast. Is it like a warehouse? Sure. But when I'm in the zone, I don't care what the building looks like - I'm focused on the game in front of me and that's it. One guy down below complained about not being able to let his kids run wild. You must have got a bad employee on an off day - when I went, kids were every where, running to and fro. As for the broken machines, virtually all of them were along the left wall to the back when I went. They weren't all over the warehouse floor. I loved the place. Where else will you EVER see a Computer Space game? Oh and, as of a couple months ago when a friend went, he confirmed that I still have the 2nd highest score on the Star Wars pin.

So if i went all the way to a place called TPHOF I would expect music and hot food and massive banners on the wall and an 80s arcade feel.
Ive never heard of this inside voices BS which seems really really the opposite of what id expect. Id expect massive info cards professionally produced with graphics and images.
It would cost less than 100$ to make plastic cards for all of them.
And Id expect lighting and even lasers. That stuff isnt expensive and looks amazing. Mood lighting and atmosphere vs ....that depressing place.
So im guessing the person running this is very old and doesnt care any more or is sick and dying or the son has taken it over and wants to go under. I hear Tim Arnold (The owner) doesn't want actual players and prefers dumb kids who he also hates lol

    • @KongsRUs
      @KongsRUs  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

Agree, could easily spruce up the place with lighting and placards

UGH...I am so disappointed on the current state of the Pinball Hall of Fame. I went to the new location at least three times during my trip to Vegas back in 2021. It was still on "soft" open, since the official grand opening was on July 1st. I did notice the number of machines that weren't working, but chalked it up to the fact that they weren't "fully open" yet. It's sad to see that not much has changed 3 years later. I wasn't aware of the "inside voice" rule (or maybe it wasn't in place back in May 2021?), but yeah...what the heck? It reminds me of how the Vulcans played baseball in an episode of ST: DS9. No trash-talking and no cheering; just a simple head nod whenever one of their Vulcan teammates hit a homerun.
I agree with your recommendation to have a description next to every machine, which includes the year it was released and any "fun facts". And it is in sore need of some decor, or at least some fun movie posters from different decades. The Pinball Gallery in Malvern PA has posters and neon signs plastered everywhere, and the carpet has a fun design. The admission fee is a bit much ($10 for one hour, $18 for 2 hours, $25 all day), but most of the machines are working and they don't have a dumb "inside voice" rule.

An arcade is no place for the fun police. If you can't handle someone enjoying a racing game, maybe an arcade isn't the best career option?

We were so excited to go to this place a year ago and it was horrible, 80٪ of the tables i wanted to play were not even working. The owner (tim arnold) was a super weird, creepy jerk. He had a lot of really cool emplotees ( volunteers) tbough. This place is POOP!

I went there last year and was very disappointed. Many cabs were down, very few people were inside and why do they require you to play with tokens? Wake up, everyone should just pay $10 and play unlimited.

  • @zackdreamcast

Why not have a front area that is working and a back area that’s not. Seems like that would be better. Hell, show how the machines get repaired, I would be interested in just watching and listening to that vs playing the games. That takes the negative and makes it a positive.

  • @dryker7085

I'll be out there in a couple months, and was looking forward to seeing this place again. Last time, I only had about 30 minutes. Hopefully, there isn't as many machines down. Perhaps the holidays affected how much help they had.
I must admit, the place has a very sterile vibe, and could use some sprucing up.
If they went to entry fee/free play mode, they'd have to charge quite a bit. I must've dropped like $10 to $15 in that 30 minutes I was there. I think some of the pinball plays were 75 cents, and since I'm more used to video pinball, I'd usually drain pretty quickly.
That said, a working machine is a working machine, and as long as it's accessible the joy is there to be had. And I would just ignore the "inside voices" bullshit. If they kicked me out, I'd wear that shit like a badge of honor.

Yeah and this is why (Real) Arcades are Dying. Due to Owners not caring about the games and of course not hiring good Arcade Tech and Pinball Tech. So sad.. Me and a Friend literally fixed 6 PCB's in one week. This Dude probably 1 or none in 1 week. Also Design and Atmosphere does help with an Arcade. This looks more like you went into someones Warehouse or Fixer shop.
