    We LOVE our 1989 original interior. I really don't understand why most people dislike a "dated" look. To cover natural woodgrain with paint is sacrilegious. 😎🎓

    • @RoamingWithRosie
      @RoamingWithRosie  ปีที่แล้ว +4

      If it's actual true wood, then we might feel the same. But yellowed veneer up against dark stained oak is another. But it's cool we can each surround ourselves witb environments that we enjoy.

      Troll Be Gone, lol, that was my first thought,
      how beautiful it was, then .... ackkk!! I keep searching
      for my 'rig' , and an absolute priority is Stained
      wood grain, dark is good, and white sofas, that brown
      contraption reminds of 1975 bean bags or Veto's Naugahyde
      Store. I kid, but then , I like traditional , saw nothing
      dated' with the OEM cabinetry. Either way, a very nice motorhome,
      one anyone should be proud to own. Holiday Rambler, nice.....

    I spent 3+ years full time. I had two RVs, my first was a 1998 Tioga Class C I paid 10K for. It was definitely outdated but clean. After a few years, I pulled the trigger on a brand new (2017) $150K Class C. The new rig was a nightmare! What I realized is that the older rigs were better made AND, besides things like USB ports, electronics, the technology really hadn't changed. Recently, my wife and I decided to go back on the road, part time. I had so much trouble with the new RV, that I sold it a few years ago. We went looking for an older RV a few weeks ago and found a 2005 National Seabreeze with under 30K miles and 150 generator hours. Super clean!!!! I would choose an older rig ANY time over new!

      @RoamingWithRosie  3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I have heard story after story just like yours. It's ridiculous that the RV industry isn't held to a higher standard. The cool thing is that you can always add updated technology to your older coach. National Seabreeze is a nice coach. Looks like you found a good one. Thanks for watching and safe travels!

      Love your video, we just bought a 1992 Dutch Star, was told everything worked once we put 3new batteries in it. They jump started it so we could drive it home, now slide out won't open , refrigerator doesn't get power , there is a leak in the shower wall, when water is turned on, levelers won't work, and motor is overheating, I'm in tears. Oh it rained here for 3 days , now there is a a couple of leaks in the roof. We can't get get air cond to work, so I bought a portable air conditioner and riged it to one of the windows, as it's been in the 100's here, and I wanted to clean it and wash the rugs. One problem after another, oh, and someone stole the calitalic convertor the night before we went pick it up.

    Wow, interesting that this video showed up for me on TH-cam. We have 2001 HR Ambassador also, but 34 footer. Such a great coach and you are right, built like a tank! Ours has 239k miles on it and behaves like it is new. We also have 300hp engine but have no problems going long uphills on cruise control. Once I was driving our car behind it and I could not keep up with my husband driving the rig. Maybe because it is shorter and one slide less? That was our biggest surprise. And it gives us 11 mpg! We are selling ours now but I have a hidden desire that it does not sell and we keep it. Moving to Puerto Rico and thinking to keep the rig for mainland travels. Not sure how to organize such a thing. Great remodel you did! Thank you for the video!

    A few things here. Hire a tech to do a P.P.I on a coach BEFORE you buy. 2nd, do research on diesel pushers, again, before you buy. 3rd, coaches DO come equipped with the same diesal engines as semis have, but most coaches have different transmission, however, some super C motor homes do have the same transmissions as semis do. Also, it's not so much about horse power when it comes to diesal engines, it's about displacement and torque. The torque is whats going to get you up hills faster over smaller diesal engines

    • @RoamingWithRosie
      @RoamingWithRosie  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      We had a certified inspection done. Everything I had read regarding the Cummins 300 HP engine was that it’s a very reliable engine. I just found that for a 36 ft motorhome it was under powered. I know torque is what gets up a hill, but with more horsepower typically brings more torque. Our rig we have now has a Cat 350 and the torque is noticeably better. Both rigs had the Allison 6 speed transmission. Going up hill’s and from a stop light the get up and go is like night and day.

    So this is first time on your channel, in 2020 i bought a 2003 HR Endeavor, which is awsome, however within the 1st year i too had to replace the radiator, i have done several repairs an upgrades, one of the better ones was to replace the fuel system lift pump with a FASS fuel system, it has improved starting an overall performance but the best part is has smoothed out the idel so when stoped at a light or backing up my mirrors quit vibrating so i can see what im looking at👍👍👍

      Sounds like you have a good handle on your HR. We loved ours, but the engine was a bit too small for us to tow anything and drive up even moderate hills. We currently drive an 2006 Alfa See Ya. Still think these old DPs were built much better than what came after. Safe Travels!

    I removed my sofa bed too and put a couple recliners in my slide, similar to your set-up. I had to cut my couch up too, as it wouldn't fit through the door. Your MH is very pretty; much prettier than mine, but $5,000 for a radiator? Holy cow! The rest of your renovations were done very economically - great job. This is the reason I decided to go with a gas engine powered MH. My V-10 Ford radiator is only $173, plus I can install it myself. I had a pick-up with a 6.4l Ford diesel that I had planned to use to tow a FT trailer, but shortly before I retired it dropped a lifter (with less than 150,000 miles on a diesel built by International that was supposed to last half a million miles) and they wanted $15,000 to fix it. You don't have to hit me over the head with a 2 x 4 for me to get the message. What if this were to happen after I retired and didn't have that kind of money laying around?
    So, I sold it and bought a 1999 National Tropical 6350 gasser with only 28k miles on it for what they wanted to repair my truck. I can have the entire v-10 engine replaced for less than the $5k your radiator job cost. Of course, it doesn't have the torque of a diesel, but last summer it climbed all through the Rockies in Colorado, including the Silverton to Durango run and Wolf Pass - two steep and twisty, dangerous roads. We didn't go fast, (up or down) but we made it just fine, pulling our toad with full tanks, as we boondocked the entire time. It's sort of the ideal Class A for boondocking, with a tag axle for extra carrying capacity and stability, great insulation, dual pane windows, big tanks, etc. which is exactly what we were looking for. We were very lucky finding it.
    Things will always break with an older rig. Over the last 3 1/2 years of FT use I repaired the slide motor transmission twice and had to replace the slide control board too. I replaced the heater blower motor, the electric steps twice (different problems), the cooling unit in our fridge, and several other minor things, like the blow off valve on the water heater. The most expensive repair was replacing our awning with a new electric model, as hurricane force winds ripped the old one off while it was rolled up and secured to the side of our MH while boondocking at Lake Mead. Our dual pane windows up front were getting a little cloudy so we had them repaired for much less than we thought to would cost - only $140/window while at Q earlier this year. But all the money we saved in RV park fees by boondocking last year funded all our repairs and then some. If you have an older rig, I highly suggest getting a good roadside assistance program. I recommend Escapee's plan as it has great benefits and gives you peace of mind for only $119/yr for Escapee members.

    • @RoamingWithRosie
      @RoamingWithRosie  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Great story! Yes. Everything diesel costs more although there's no reason for diesel fuel to. At regular gas stations, diesel is far less than at truck stops we fit into.
      We have a few roadside assist plans. Been told if one can't get to you, it's good to have a back up.
      Thanks for the heads up on the windows in the Q. We will look into that next fall.
      Love the comments. Thanks! 😉

I love my one ton diesel dually I currently have for my 37’ fifth wheel but the cost are getting out of control when it comes to regular maintenance and I also like that they say If you do regular maintenance it should go 500,000 miles. My truck is a 2009 and it has 67,000mikes on it Chevy Silverado crew can.

    • @RoamingWithRosie

      Unfortunately the maintenance comes with any RV. The fuel mileage is pretty much the same as your setup. We know people who will only have a 5th wheel and we also have friends who went from a 5th wheel to a class A motorhome and love it. Gas or diesel the pros of owning a diesel over a gas out ways the cons. That’s my opinion.

    WOW ... That is a lot less than I would have expected.
    Seems that most everything worked on your motorhome.

    Although, I am surprised that a new radiator cost $5,000.
    I had a new radiator put in my car last year, and it cost me about $700.
    Why would a diesel radiator cost so much? Was it labor or parts??

    • @RoamingWithRosie
      @RoamingWithRosie  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Labor was a huge part. Because they pulled the whole thing out, it made sense to change belts and other maintenance. But everything with big diesel trucks and RVs is more expensive. The advantage is the longevity. We renovate to our liking and then dont have to buy another RV.

      Hey there! Nice to meet you. Thanks for letting is know you're out there. We have some questions on your terminology too. Fun! LOL. What measurement is the 720? Our current MH has a 350 horsepower engine. How long is the motorhome you're looking at? When we watch RV TH-cam channels from England, it doesnt seem like everyone is as obsessed with size like in the US. And what is OAP?

    • @ivecamperbuild_thomas4084

      @@RoamingWithRosie first OAP is old aged pensioners I’m 74 in 3 weeks the wife is 73, I think a lot of people who do motor homes or camper vans in the Uk like them small for what I can only think is they are easier to drive and can be driven on a normal car licence they need a C1 license to drive up to 7.5 tons and any bigger they need a HGV class 2 which in this country now cost around £3000 pounds which is probably $3780 dollars, Im ok I have a HGV license and We like the space , the length of the motor home is only 36 feet with 3 slides and a 6 birth . The roads in the Uk are a lot smaller then the USA and there is not many places to go boomdocking or wild camping, even a lot of camp sites don’t take big motor homes the UK is very behind other countries regarding motor home even getting rid of grey wast can be a nightmare , we are planning on doing EUROPE which as more to offer for motor homes the motor home we are looking at is £55000 ,the diesel in the Uk is almost £2 a litre and 5 litres to a gallon works out expensive, we will be giving the motor home a full looking at which will probably take me 2 days I want to check everything works I’m even taking some water with us incase they say no it just need the water filling up ,thanks for your reply , I don’t think we would have a clue how to do TH-cam videos as we don’t really have any equipment other then a mobile phone and a iPad thanks again for your reply

      The vehicle is capable of going 80mph. I have a CDL and have gone through the Smith System defensive driving program. I know the dangers of speed in a large vehicle. I drive between 60 & 65.

      Hopefully, you'll like Rosie Too. We opted to sell Original Rosie following her renovation. It was heartbreaking, but we really needed a bigger engine than what she came with. Even looked into replacing the engine, but it was going to be $18,000 . We really loved everything else about the HR. Now we have a new to us 2006 Alfa See Ya. She looks like a Beluga Whale. LOL

    Nice video...Safe driving on the highway. 80mph is way too fast for an RV. Do you have a Safety T plus bar on the front axle...definitely worth the investment and you can install it yourself.

    lol, beauty, dated interiors, and 'eye of the beholder'.
    The original looked like 2000 +- , the renovation takes
    me back to 1986.
    The first thing I would do, if buying from this couple,
    is probably have the cabinets restored.
    Some design work is timeless, some trendy,
    I like timeless, understated elegance, then again,
    it comes down to 'the eye of the beholder'. shrugs....
    Nice rig, I'd want to opt for the 350+ too.

    • @RoamingWithRosie
      @RoamingWithRosie  ปีที่แล้ว

      Cabinets were mostly veneer. Doors weren't matching cabinets. Definitely needed 350 motor. But she found a good home and now we start over on Rosie Too. She has solid wood cabinetry.

      @@RoamingWithRosie I hear that,
      I wouldn't want a mish-mash of
      cabinetry either, it's got to be what
      we like, or it kind of ruins the
      overall experience. 🍕🍕
      I don't recall the existing
      flooring material/s for
      Rosie 2, how is it looking, have
      plans there?
