from what I understand torpedoes are bought at Equipment centers, but I have yet to see any and i have visited around 50 Equipment centers, are they only found at Equipment centers nearer to the center of the galaxy?

Any chance you could go over how to actually fire the torps. I have them set to a weapon group, Shafts have ammo but they never fire.

you shoot torpedos but How the right button does not shoot them???

are torpedo ships doable mid game? the torpedos seem to get destroyed instantly

they can be, they seem to work better against stations in late game.
