I know "I am the one who knocks" is THE quote of the entire show, but I always thought "Someone has to protect this family from the man who protects this family." Was just as impactful. That line really hits

Walter didn't even know he had lung cancer yet so his boss sure as hell wouldn't.
A lot of places don't tolerate "that's not my job" as an excuse. The idea is if you can help, you should.

@@RynKen yeah; the way the scene is shot (all blues) makes you imagine it's cold there, but that makes sense only nowadays, back when the show was coming out winters weren't *as* crazy down there, so my bad (not that hot sun is that much better for his situation).
And I'm not talking about when he sent Walt; I actually feel like he was justified back then: he didn't know there was anything wrong with Walt and was just trying to manage his personnel; but *now* he knows he's got cancer, and still his approach isn't "hey man you were a dick to me when you quit but I get it now, cancer is though"; instead he goes "hahaha you loser, remember when you were dying and I kept pushing you to do more work so I could earn a little bit more cash for myself?"
@@RynKen The thing is Eyebrows McCuntface knows now at this point that Walt had cancer the whole time and he's still boasting about what he did making himself seem like the noble leader who makes all the right choices. He's a twat of the stinkiest variety and you reap what you sow.
@@RynKen The first thing Bogdan should've done if he was so desperate for someone to fill in for the person who called in sick was to go out there and start scrubbing. It wasn't Walt's job anymore than it was Bogdan's, so if he wants to force anyone to do something outside of their duties he should start with himself. That's what a respectable leader does!

We shouldn't assume the owner of the store is here twiddling his thumbs. He could easily have responsibilities that outweigh Walt's position as cashier, especially at a point in time where there's nobody to cash out.

Bogdan is definitely being a dick, and not just in the way he acts towards Walt. Keep in mind, he doesn't think he's been tricked into selling his business, he thinks he's managed to pawn off contaminated land onto unsuspecting buyers. The reason he kept emphasizing "as is" is because he expects them to find out it failed a safety inspection and is making sure they'll have no recourse because they agreed to buy it "as is".
Rana and Hannah really underestimate how dangerous Walt is. He's both completely unpredictable and intelligent, which means he is not someone you want to cross paths with.
They're letting their dislike of him cloud their judgement
I mean like I suppose you've also seen the entire series and it's only apparent that he even at this point where intelligent in retrospect.

It's pretty weird, so many people think "I am the one who knocks" speech is Walt proving how badass he is but to me it seems like the opposite. It's what someone who knows he's scared shitless bigging himself up would say.

So you guys finally got to the famous "I am the one who knocks!" speech. I loved Hannah's reaction to it. I almost forgot about how good Skyler's "Someone has to protect this family from the man who protects this family." line was.
I have to say I love this show and I love watching the reactions to it. It's great to see the show through other people's points of view. Plus looking at it so many years down the road myself I noticed how different my opinions of certain characters is. Like for instance, people were really hard on Skylar in the shows first run. She's far from perfect but I felt like people were more forgiving of Walt's actions than hers in the shows original run.
Man, I can't wait to see how Hannah and Rana react to what's coming next.
The meth head that kept screaming "Tucker!" is a really amazing Australian actor that is set to play Charles Manson in the second season of 'Mindhunter.'
I still like the Frozen parody where he pushes Elsa out of the way, "I'm the one who knocks", and asks Jesse if he wants to build a meth lab.

I think Gus is grooming Jesse to replace Victor. Initially, Jesse knew the business and Walt cooked. Any lab assistant could cook with Walt and Jesse being Walt's lacky and not an equal in Walt's eyes. (Dad doesn't respect him) makes Jesse spiral. He is loyal which is what Walt told Gus when trying to sell Jesse. He said he is loyal - loyal to me. Gus wants to make Jesse independent of Walt. Thus neutralizing Walt more.

When people repeat a line out of context it loses his power, felt like it slightly took away from a really strong scene that people had hyped up one particular line.

I hate that "I am the danger I am the one who knocks" became the quotable breaking bad phrase when it's something walt says when he's being delusional. And in the same episode Skyler said something that summarizes the entire series way more: "I need to protect this family from the man who protects this family"
It doesn't summarize the show at all, because as she said, he's not protecting the family. She also could've turned him in way earlier and avoided this whole scenario, so she's definitly not doing her best to protect her family.

Going to prison isn't as bad as possibly getting killed and also wouldn't put her and her children at risk, because they wouldn't be related to the best meth supplier on the planet. Her decision to keep milking that cash cow came from completely irrational feelings, just like her lawyer told her.

Hannah's impression of Walt is pretty accurate..We have to take into account that hindsight is 20/20 and she hasn't seen Heisenberg fully come out yet. So far though, he has been childish, petty, wanting to feel like a big shot blabbing his mouth to Hank and intimidating Skyler. Yet he IS gonna take the car back tomorrow. Hence, the 'small' comment.

When I was in my early 20's, Walt seemed badass in later seasons. Now, I'm more mature, and he's pretty despicable.

The most recent National Lampoons Vacation movie with Ed Helms is the movie.
The "I am the one who knocks" was probably the last straw for me and Walt's character. It just felt cringey and wrong. I dont know why fans of the show see him as this amazing badass guy. Skylar's line "Someone has to protect this family from the man who protects this family" was much better.
You can even see how Walt thinks he’s probably gone too far with the way he leaves the room after saying that.
