Edit: He also even admits at the last episode just before saying good bye to Skyler, “I did it for myself, i liked it”
@KeV B it's a complicated web. He didn't intend to kill Gale at all to begin with. He liked him. The fact so many people hated her character is a testament to how great of an actress she is. You do not come across too many shows that have so many excellent actors and actresses like Breaking Bad. Jesse was supposed to be a short-lived character in the series, but he became part of the main focus. Truly an amazing job!
I never understood the hate for Skyler. She is a loving mother and wife that is trying to keep her family together. She acts cautiously, and yes, she makes mistakes, but then again she is forced into this drug underworld where she obviously doesn’t belong. She’s scared of Walt but she also loves him so she does all those things for him even though she knows they’re wrong. She’s a great character played by a great actress
Saddest part about this scene is she tells him “You’re not a hardened criminal, you’re in danger!” She has no clue about anything hes done up until that point, and people making assumptions like that about him are the exact reason why he does it.
"She has no clue about anything hes done up until that point", but she already cheated on him with her criminal boss, didn't turn in signed by Walter divorce papers, said that she is waiting on his cancer to come back
@subcomandante marcos That all comes to head with him and Mike. Mike telling him they had a good thing with Gus but Walt's ego just couldn't let him be the man under someone else, he had to be top dog. He had to. He didn't like how obvious that was to Mike and he killed him for it. It's funny watching Gus's early interactions with Walt again after so long. Gus clearly does a lot to give Walt a pride in what he does, he respects him a great deal. But Walt has a megalomania and his ego couldn't let him see that Gus at one point felt they were equal.
@@MolemanITA Totally. Walt has a nemesis complex. That comes about from obvious problems with self worth and inferiority to others and their identities and values. Walt couldn't accept that there were people better than him from his perspective. Gus gets close to Jesse, dead. Mike gets close to Jesse, dead. He could not stand others fathering his surrogate son.
Well to be fair I think she was just trying to protect him by talking some sense into him. If my husband who I know has been a consistently good and virtuous man during the time of our marriage suddenly became a drug dealer I'd also refuse to believe that he's the one who kills people and I'd try to protect him at all costs. I think Skyler telling this to Walt was just proof of how little she knew about her husband's darkest sides.
It's funny because i think he actually did when she said asked if he was the one in danger because it made him look weaker than his enemies which as we know he can't take because he wants to be on top
"I AM THE DANGER,IM THE ONE WHO KNOCKS" is his global main theme and his best line that explain his overall character in BB.. Yet season 4 is the only season bryan dont get emmy nomination is unbelievable !!!
The ending for breaking bad sucked. Everything got solved by a weird machine gun contraption. Then Jessie was free and happy and Walter died. I always thought it would have been more powerful if Jesse left, and Walter just stood there, looked around, and got back to cooking.
You literally see Walt turning into Heisenberg. He removes his light colored red shirt revealing a dark red shirt. Instantly, his demeanor changes. Brilliant writing.
Notice how before he tells her who he really is, he takes off that red shirt revealing a darker red..almost like he’s taking off that Walter White persona and switching to Heisenburg..simply brilliant.
u mind explaining why they used the color red for this scene? i feel how it changes , but what was in the directors mind when he decided to wear him red
Can you believe that season 4 was the only season Bryan Cranston didn’t get nominated for an Emmy. His acting was insane in this scene and in Crawl Space.
To me, this seemed like the moment where Skyler began to understand how far off the deep end Walt had gone. Its obvious it isn't just about paying his cancer treatment anymore, he's taking pride in what he does.
Idiotic, hypocritical POS Skyler already cheated on Walter with her criminal boss (who she helped to hide two times more amount of money than Walter earned at that point), and she was the one who didn't turn in SIGNED BY WALTER DIVORCE PAPERS AND MUNIPULATED WALTER TO STAY IN THE FAMILY (because sleeping with her criminal boss became boring and because she started to want Walter's money - even her lawyer called her out on it). So it doesn't really matter what exectly realized that stupid, spiteful, selfish, idiotic bitch realized in this scene.)
Actually I'd say she was more scared of the murder confession he just made. If he had simply stopped by saying "I'm too valuable to be killed so I'm not in danger.: the outcome of this scene would have been so much different.
Can we just appreciate that Cranston went from an extra in Seinfeld, to acting as a meth kingpin in which he won an Emmy for his acting! Why don’t I see people talking about how he surprised everyone with his jump from comedy to breaking bad, and that he nailed it so quickly! This man deserved his Emmy through and through

Imagine if this show had been told from Skylers perspective. If this had been a mystery thriller about the husband going off and probably having an affair, then it becoming apparent he's a cook in the meth business but is probably in over his head - this would be the biggest "Oh shit" moment ever.
As much as this scene is a meme, it's also kind of terrifying. It's such a stark contrast to that timid chemistry teacher just barely meeting ends meet. And I love Bryan's acting, people don't give enough credit to the person who plays Skylar, Anna Gunn. Her character has watched her husband go from a kind man, if a little prideful, to a exactly what she says he's not, a hardened criminal. One who will soon go on to become a kingpin in the meth industry. All of that is reflected in her eyes. The fear there feels so genuine, and that subtle lip quiver at the end. She's been put in the one of the hardest situations one could think of, one where she is beginning not to feel safe in her own house. Superb acting from all of the cast, big hats off.
people dont usually empathize with skyler, the dont really think deep into how would they feel if something like that happened to their partner, like the whole mysterious behavior and then realizing what was happening and how their life partner suddenly transformed into... well, that.
@@Salchipapote it's because she was contradicting her morals. @@abdimohamed2945 This. Either choose to stand by your husband, even knowing he's a criminal, or leave and justify that choice, but to straddle the fence until forced to take one side or the other smacks of cowardice. Maybe that's how she was written, maybe not, but she nailed it either way.
"I am the danger. A guy opens his door and gets shot and you think that of me? No. I am the one who knocks!" Even Chuck Norris is scared to open the door.
Chuck Norris would even be scared to mention the name of Heisenberg, it was once said that Chuck Norris went to open his door then remembered this Dialogue and instead went and cried himself to sleep.
Walt is essentially telling her that he's more comfortable being the murderer than he is being a victim, that he is so insistent on looking badass that he would rather kill someone than appear vulnerable. Even in this moment, where she's begging him to admit he's vulnerable, he rejects the opportunity in favor of saying he is powerful and morally bankrupt. He despised his wife for being concerned over his safety here, and yet, the viewer sides with him in this moment. This show really is masterful at conditioning the audience into taking sides.
@Adrian Enrique Arenas Roth I disagree, Walter absolutely hates not getting credit and looking weak and helpless, here his wife sees him as just a school teacher who cant get out of his current situation and he has to prove her wrong
Bunty Ka Chutiyapa which further proves the fact that this scene and bryan Cranston’s acting here, will undoubtedly go down as one of the best scenes, and best acting performance in a show ever made
I remember when I first saw this line when he says "I am the danger" It terrified the living lights out of me to my core like a horror movie would. A coldness that shot straight through my soul. That was 7 years ago and I'll never forget it. I've never had acting like that do that to me. I miss watching this show for the first time.
I can’t imagine how terrifying it’d be to see your husband transform from an easygoing chemistry teacher into a murderous drug lord. Being bound to a completely different person than the one you married. People are way too hard on Skyler.
Shakespearean character development at it's finest. Excellent writing and the perfect actor who could pull it off. This scene still gives me the chills years later.
0:49: *'Who are you talking to right now? Who is it you think you see?"* That look he gives Skyler. Chills. This. Is. Heisenberg. The pure terror in Skyler's face says it all.
I just freaking love how you can see Brian play Walter and Heisenberg at the same time. It is just brilliant. Sometimes he doesn't even say a word, just his body language tells you who it is. I've never seen a show this good, just by sheer acting. And I've never watched it again after the first, out of fear of not having the same impact.
Watch it again. I'm rewatching now and the show has a totally different message this time than when I first watched it. If I wait another 5 to 10 years it will mean something different that time too. See what I'm saying? We change so much as time goes by it makes it a new experience everytime. ESPECIALLY for this type of show where so many characters seem to really ride that fine line of what's morally okay and what isn't.
If you haven't already, you should definitely consider giving BrBa another rewatch. I've seen it a few times now and each time you catch something you didn't notice before and you're watching it with a brand new perspective knowing how the show plays out.
the thing about walter is that most of his career he has felt under appriciated and has been resentful and when he gets into this drug business he gets what he craved for throughout his career. He is respected. And all of those bottled up feelings slowly come popping out and makes him what we see now
@Samuel Colt You sound like you have a brain the size of a pea. Enjoy being bitter and miserable until life shits you out and the world has one less asshole!
It is funny because just the first time he cooked meth he ended up dissolving two guys in HF and then wiped their remains off the floor. The guy was a psychopath. He was just waiting for a moment.
Skyler is amazing in this scene as well, you can tell just from her reaction after his speech that she's realized she's not talking to the husband she knew and has realized what he's become
That's a bit of a stretch don't you think. Look at her dialogue delivery. It's meddling. And no that's not the character. Betsy Brandt was much more talented. SHe really made me feel when she learnt about Hanks death. With Anna Gunn, you could clearly see the 'acting'.
Amith Joseph I think we see different things, cause for me she really pushes him to exploding the way it happens in real life, I don't see anything fake about her, it's not "acting"
You can really see Bryan Cranston playing Walt and Heisenberg at the same time. The intimidation and the pride mixed with that tiny bit of hesitation at the end where you can see he sort of reflected on what he was doing and then immediately justified it. Incredible just incredible
I disagree. This is just Walt pretending to be Heisenberg, bullshitting Skyler and for once he pulling it off because he actually wanted his lies to be true so much. He spent the whole episode before this "badass" speech panicking and fearing for his life knowing that indeed Gus was the one knocking. Walt knows at this point he was exactly the person he didn't want Skyler to think he was, and that hurt his ego leading to this explosion.
I've been saying that. Pilot episode 1 I was like how was you going to pull this off from Malcolm in the middle? Got a few episodes later he went it blew up a meth dealer the apartment 🤣
"I am the one who knocks!" Clearly, one of the most badass lines ever spoken on TV. It's still good years later in 2019- If I heard it today for the first time, it would affect me the same way it did years ago. Incredible.
I know that the stand-out moment of this scene is the final "I am the one who knocks" quote but that first swift turn and expression on Walt's face is equally brilliant and amazing. It shows how Walt's ego has grown so much throughout his criminal career that he feels disrespected by someone claiming he is in danger. Being in danger would make him weak, which he cannot be anymore. It's all there in one turn, and one glance. Amazing acting, directing and writing all round. Man, I could watch this scene every day and it would still blow me away.
Yes, this x's a million! Also, props to Anna Gunn because that initial reverse shot of her is some BRILLIANTLY subtle acting. Just mouth slightly agape, eyes wide open and she shrinks back ever so slightly as if a stranger with a gun pointed at her has just materialized from thin air.

I absolutely hated her as a character, but she's actually an incredible actress. The look of confusion and fear was so genuine.
Kyle Barnes how I liked her
sakata gintoki eh
The Ikester ye but why do people she’s not really in all context done anything wrong she’s human
@@skyfryer1223 And you can see Walter ego from the first episode, how he treat his students. It was a frustrated ego.

Superb acting from all of the cast, big hats off.
people dont usually empathize with skyler, the dont really think deep into how would they feel if something like that happened to their partner, like the whole mysterious behavior and then realizing what was happening and how their life partner suddenly transformed into... well, that.
