idea for your next video: put ramps on the back that fold up and stand at the back. I'm sure there is a name for those, but that would be so handy to have attached ramps on hinges.
The dovetail seems like it should be strong enough, although the 3/8” gussets probably should have been beveled and preheated due to the size of your welder. I was kind of surprised that you chose to downhill weld the axles. The trailer turned out nice, and the work you did was clean.
A lot of work ! I think I would have left the axles alone and welded a 2x4 tube to each side x the length of the trailer including the foot and a half extension . Boxed in transversly and put the rails back on . ???
Saskatchewan used to be like that but trailer theft got out of control. Now new builds need to be inspected before serial numbers are issued. Trailer theft is now almost zero
I've been in fabrication welding for 35+ years and i wouldn't do anything differently whatsoever. Great job!
Would you grind the paint off or burn thru it ? I was taught to clean bright steel before welding it .
Well done. Those plates are actually called ‘fish plates’. Gussets are the inner corner supports.
Nice trailer !!!!! Very Nice Welding beads !!!!!!
Like how you put the entire project together over 2 videos.
Thanks for commenting.
Wow! Well done. That turned out awesome.
nice job. turned out great.
Awesome build man.
Looks great!

Yes that’s the plan.

I thought about doing that, but for some reason I didn’t go with that method.
Nice, so what did you do with the title?
You can register any trailer as a "homebuilt" trailer here in Ontario Canada
What are the dimensions of that trailer? I recently received a free 15ft tri hull boat (junk) and would like to build a trailer from the boat trailer
16.5 by 6.5
Looks great I have a 18’ boat trailer I was thinking of making a video on as well, is the angle iron 2x2 1/8”?
The angle iron for the cross braces? The cross braces are 3/16.
Bravo! Was the cost and effort worth it?
No. lol.
Subbed
How does this work as far as legal title definitions go?
Where I live you can register any trailer as “home built” and get a title. Bit crazy I know, but that’s how it is.

Could have kept pulling then just let it down slowly with the forks on the tractor instead of slamming it down
I wouldn’t cut the axles, move the springs and fenders, good enough
