The solution : Get a job in martial arts. Even if it doesn't seem martial arts related, go work in the martial arts industry. Go sew some punching bags or something. If you hate your job then it is a dead end job, and it clearly doesn't pay enough anyway. EDIT: I asked ChatGPT some entry level Martial Arts careers and it says : Instructor Assistant, Desk staff, Program Coordinator, Retail Associate (selling gear), Social Media coordinator, Coach, Event staff (setting up tournaments sounds fun ! ), Marketing assistant, customer support representative, administrative assistant. ~ Cheers!
I work full time and pursue martial arts and it is so fucjing hard. I’ve been looking for a new job for a month now and they refuse to budge on the hours they wanna give me. It’s hard bro but we gotta keep going
I feel you man. Save up as much money as possible is the best advice I can give you. A lot of corporations don't care about you & will cut your hours to save their behind
You do know that lots of martial artists are homeless and no job, have to beg. That was in the past too. I chase boxing while working 40 hours a week. What you need is self discipline. Get your self up early, figure your self out immediately, and learn to organize yourself.
Yea bro I’m an amateur but full Time dad and work! So you just got to train no matter what! I feel martial arts is a lifestyle not a sport or hobby. So building yourself to be a better fighter can be done and should be done regardless of work or family ! Maybe it’ll be hard to be pro but training itself can be done . It is harder but nothing good in life is easy
Brother if those people did the right thing you may not have a job right now..don’t allow your mind to complain. It doesn’t pay off at all, you’re a fighter..fight don’t whine.
Bro I’m in the same boat as you. use all of your hours outside training and work, learn about finance and investing day after day. Get as many streams of income as possible. Be everywhere and be fast🙏🏻
Just so we don’t have to work these damn jobs someday. I know working for yourself could even be more work than a regular job but I’m tired of getting pennies day after day, getting 10 days of vacation every year from some fucker that doesn’t appreciate us
soo imma add to this i do karate. at the dojo when i put in hard work i get praised i have went up rank at belts and i even won some medals at tournaments. I have probably put in just as much if not more work into my job only for them to treat me like a pariah and try to gaslight me into thinking im not doing enough its insane how the worlds are different
I honestly gave up on everything ever since I got a job, the only thing I do right now is try to beat my job income with copywriting and Im slowly getting there.
man i always loved to practice martial arts but i cant practice anymore because i got a construction work and cant train at all anymore because it is too demanding physically and got cramps or got sick so yeah now that i cant train i feel so disconnected of myself it sucks but sometimes we have to pass through this times of boringness and doing give up on trying to stay healthy at least. i will get a motorcycle to get to downtown and get a partime job.
on the register dealing with people is HORRIBLE. if its just walking around returning carts id say its a chill comfy job. but bagging shit being a cashier...thats just hell. do me a favor and dont give them a 2 weeks notice. they wouldnt give you one.
Seems like theres alot of us working trying to pursue this martial arts path its just a journey man im only 22 i dont know everything but one thing i learned is that the emotions will come and go but thats part of the journey
I pay 50 euros for BJJ and MMA classes mon - sat but due to work scheduling, I lose between 1 - 2 classes every week and I work a min wage job. Do other people have it worse? The only thing I dont like is the fact that I lose 2 training sessions, but it is alright.
Really depends how many hours you work, 40 hours a week while training is still possible although really difficult, working more then that I can't image how you would train at the same time.
also good luck working 40 hours a week AND training martial arts. i remember going to jiu jitsu in the morning and working from home. it was....unbearable.
Dude, I get it. Feels degrading and soul sucking. But it doesn't sound too bad. I never heard the word "kids" mentioned, so, in reality, you have a lot of options. Probably doesn't feel like it, but you do. Just make a plan and do everything you can to move towards your goal. Your plan can constantly develop, but you have to have one. Otherwise, you run the risk of staying where you are because it sort of pays the bills and you're not sure what other steps to take. Identify some steps. If they go off track, reassess and identify alternate steps. You can do this
Sounds like reality. Have you considered working full time, and over time, to save enough for a trip out to Thailand. Get a taste for full-time training. In the meantime - workout how to enjoy your job?

So many people do the things they hate just to be able to work on their own loved craft and it's cool that you are talking about this. Stay strong!
