Yes. I remember reading a short horror story from the Edwardian Era. It takes place in Canada, and there are 3 hunters out in the wilderness. They make it to a guide shack or cabin, which is some sort of base camp, and happen to see 2 other guys setting off together. When these 3 set off they go in a different direction because something about one of those other 2 guys gives them a weird feeling. Those two set off in a canoe. A couple of nights later they hear a canoe or boat coming up, and they leave their tents and see this one guy coming back alone
Instantly, they all nonverbally register what this means. They all know deep down that this guy has killed his hunting partner, but proceeds to tell them around a campfire a long convoluted and obviously rehearsed story. The horrific part is being alone with a murderer. They are doing Everything they can to not give away the fact that they all know he is lying. They don't want to tip him off. He wants them to go back with him to find the guy's body ( who allegedly drowned), and then use them as some kind of corroborating evidence for the officials. It really strikes you that without this social structure and government that everyone relies on and places implicit faith in, what do you do in a case like this? What if you didn't have a weapon? We don't stop to think about these things, because we all assume that if anything goes wrong, we'll just call 9q1, they'll respond Instantly and save us. But in the real world, sometimes it isn't that simple.

Steve, that is an absolutely hilarious story. As they say, discretion is the better part of valor. You made the right decision. I have had a couple of experiences dealing with alcoholics in our elk camp. It is not unusual to have a beer or two and perhaps some whiskey from a flask if you are successful harvesting a bull, but dealing with people with obvious substance abuse problems while in the mountains is difficult and something you're not prepared to experience or witness. You handled it perfectly.

Yes, that's why on the old days, you had stand up guys. When there was a problem, they stood up and took care of it. It wasn't talked about, just done. But then you didn't have huge prisons with hundreds of people in them, neighborhoods living in fear, and criminals robbing people's houses, and then suing because they got shot in the leg. I was born too late. 😎

Yeah, I've seen many lives destroyed from that poison, but this story teller got it all wrong.
the paranoia of thinking someone stole his pic & someone stole his meth can be associated with meth, he didn't have to be on it at the time he was paranoid.
In fact, he couldn't find his meth because the dumb ass shot his meth at the Moose.
His trying to fight everyone & not remembering it was 100% the whiskey!
There are lots of poisons out there.

Carl Green why are you on the channel If you don’t like it? Just because you hunt animals doesn’t mean you hate them and love killing. It’s a necessity and a very natural instinctual activity especially for men. The animals have lived a happy natural life and then it ends, by wolves ripping them to shreds grizzly bear ripping their organs out or a quick few shots by a hunter. circle of life

@Carl Green homicide? Better look the definition up...pretty sure the "hom" part of the word comes from homosapiens, maybe even stretches to hominids but doubtful. So does not apply.
These are legal GAME animals. You vegetarian? Eat meat?
Even if you only eat vegetables they're killed so you can eat them. Every living thing eats other living things with maybe the exception of scavengers and even they dont necessarily wait until your dead, maybe just helpless. So what's your point, why are you even here.

Repete Myname and that’s exactly why it won’t ever get done. It’s like we have a war or resistance against any critical thinking or logic. We’re not allowed to activate any good ideas anymore in this country. Especially if it might get something done. Political social parasites need that shit, and they depend on the stupidity of the American voters to not notice when shit don’t get done. So if we came up w a great idea like.... idk pedophiles that convicted and proven to be pedophiles are then executed in public in the center of town where everyone can watch.... and maybe even allow families of the victims get in on it if they wish.... I guarantee you’ll see pedophiles jumping off bridges in mass and pretty soon No More Kiddy Didlers. Prob solved. It’s so easy and so simple and yet so powerfully affective but.... we’re not doing it. I’m all about due process too. But let’s permanently remove this problem when it’s found. Why can’t we do this? Because the social parasites depend on our stupidity. Government is a disease masquerading as the cure

I was raised mostly by my Grandfather who was born in 1901. He taught me how to hunt, fish and deal with good and bad people. He was a quite man and I learned early to pay attention went he had something to say.
This guy is lucky he was with you because I know how his story would have ended had he acted like that around the old school hunters of the south. Sore, sorry and locked up would be his BEST outcome, but not the most likely.

Fellow small-town Georgia Boy here, South-East Georgia to be specific, and I totally agree with you! If he'd have been unfortunate enough to be with most of the fellow hunters that I know from around these parts, I believe this would be one of those stories that NEVER gets shared with others, because there's no "statue of limitations" in our legal system for the things that I feel are most likely to have occurred after such behavior, from such a p.o.s person. If the trash isn't taken out, at least occasionally, it will just pile up, and continue to stink more and more, as well as contaminate things that otherwise would be good...that's the way I see it lol. I'm 31, but I don't relate with a lot of other people my age, because i have a mentality and outlook that's much more in line with that of my father and grandfather's instead of the average person of my age, ESPECIALLY the one's who grew up in larger cities/towns. My grandfather is also one of those men that dosen't really say very much, but when he does, you'd be wise to listen up, pay close attention, and maybe even take some notes because you're either going to get some advice/knowledge better than any amount of money could buy, learn some awesome history, or laugh your head off because he just said something ridiculously hilarious. You never know exactly which one it's going to be either, because he's hard to predict most of the time, but it's guaranteed to fall into 1 of those 3 categories! I have no idea what I'm going to do when I lose him, and i don't think I'll ever be able to cope with it when it happens. Sorry to be such a drag, it's just that thinking about him made me realize time with him is getting short now.

Wild story man! You never know who you have with you and they are carrying a high powered rifle at that. You have to be on your toes man! I ran a charter boat for 15 yrs mostly in the Atlantic Ocean off the coast of Jersey. I worked alone most days, no mate and it takes a lot of trust to have between 2 and 6 strange guys you just met an hour ago out there with you. I mean you could disappear real quick and nobody would even realize it till that night or next morning. Over 15 years I had a few odd balls for sure, many drunks and definitely a few druggies but I kept the peace, caught fish and got home safely every trip. I must add that most of the clients were terrific people that I would call my friends anytime but always keep your guard up when doing this type of work. Sounds like you are a true professional and gentleman... Cheers Brother 🙏🏻

@@Trail-of-dead Ja and I am old eh, There are a lot of assholes out there but U don't have to step in them. This is what I have learned. I have had what I would call experiences wit de Big guy, When I lived in Vermont many years ago and once when I travled up to Moosefactory in Canada. On the way home goin through the Town of Eganville Ont on my way back to New Jersey. I didn't have a clue about the Big guy's being anyware but out west. I never did see one but I am one stupid enough not to have to much going in the way of fear. I had been driving for hours and was exausted, so I pulled over in a place wide enough for several trucks to park. I was fixin to go to sleep in the comfort of the back of mt truck. I went around back of my truck and lifted the Caps door when I was suddenly stricken by an intense sense of dread and a real need to get out of the site I had chosen to sleep. well needless to sayI was now wide awake and drove the rest of the way to the Queens highway 401 I think. I slep in a gas station under some lights. Like I say I only in the past few years have learned that the Big bass turds are everywhere's. They go this ability to use inforsound to stun or frighten away critters they want to eat or frighten away. I's here to say it works. My Vermont experience were the same feelings. I was in the deep woods walking and climbing around when that same goddamn fear came over me like a cloud. It were like dread and for no reason. It was a real nice day and I was enjoying my self when just plain out of the blue. I saw and heard nothing both times. Both times the feelings were short lived. Both times I was unarmed. My mother always said take the gun with you just in case. GGrowing up we had rabid fox scare so I had a little 32 rim fire revolver I kept in my pocket. Fun little thing it was. Well I has to be goin here and thanks for your work. Sure like to just lay my eyes on one, you never know. thanks again Steve be safe out there among the big guys

I had on a backless top and when she burnt me I automatically swung a fist and knocked her out cold!! LOL Guess I couldn't keep my composure at the time and would most likely do it again if need be. Thanks for sharing.

I'm from Alaska. I haven't gone hunting since my husband passed. Tell you what... I love the outdoors, camping and the woods. Have you been to southeast Alaska for hunting or Kodiak?
