I’ve got quite a few Bosch starters laying about, so I might just have a go at reconditioning some! Also, I’d like to thank you for putting the 300 Tdi / John Deere idler bearing video up…. Worked a treat thank you.
13:27 I used an appropriately sized socket put in between the brushes to hold them out and then installed the brush box over the commutator. The end of the commutator pushes the socket out while allowing the brushes to slide onto the commutator. I sized it just slightly larger diameter than the commutator to help and it worked out pretty good. But the cone tool you mentioned would be much nicer.
There is a special cone you fit over the end of the shaft, so you can assemble the brushes without spring tension and then slip onto the commutator - looks like a trip to JP's!
The tang on the end of the wire is plated copper, copper but not naked copper, so it shouldn’t. I grease electrical terminals, like it or lump it, I’ve never had a problem.
Now we are in the auto electrician field , Could a LR alternator double as a welder? Over at old school garage , he has a video about converting alternator into welder but since his chanal are more of the entertaining nature , he some like lost details in the translation- Just a thought-

Great to hear!
Best repair I even seen and we'll explained. God bless
Thanks!
Takes me back this video, whispered reduction gear, and low and behold it was. Strange how things come back to you after all this time.

I do it your way - with a socket. I did one again today.
Another masterclass 😊
Thank you! Cheers!

Jobsagoodun Mike. Wondered how you held back 4 brushes at once. Good to know.

Question will a 300tdi starter fit a 200tdi engine?
yes
Sir, are there more Sunday sort outs in the future?
Yes - just real busy here at the moment
What is the size of these brushes? is this starter model Bosch 1986S00870?

Doesn’t stainless steel react with the copper wire.?
