Thank you! I also lost a lot of time because of my inner self critic and at the same time I have a strong need for external validation. I would like to keep drawing a secret for a couple of years now, got any tips on fighting the urge to share?
The need for validation is completely natural so that makes sense Instead of aiming for years of not sharing, just put it off for a few months, maybe share a few pieces and then return to keeping things secret. If you set the bar too high it will only cause you more pain. Instead of fighting it, try to negotiate with that side of yourself. Ask that part of you if we can hold off for a few months and then maybe pick very few drawings to share. Dont be too rough with yourself, be forgiving if you end up breaking away from the original plan. Remember that you can always just keep the next drawing secret
Okay finally..this is THE BEST explanation of how to use a sketchbook and learn how to let go of the “finalized” feeling we often feel we need to achieve in our sketchbooks. It really does feel like I’m creating this BOOK rather than a personal, vulnerable, visual diary. 😂 if I ever have such a following where ppl ask me how I use my sketchbook, I’ll link them to this video first
Haha awww Im so happy the advice resonates with you!!! Yeah the book format can feel scary, but we can transform it into a symbol of vulnerability and exploration!! Let us know how your sketchbooking journey goes!!
The art is adorable, Thank you for sharing the biggest take away for me improvement takes time so it's fine to not see it every single time and to have fun and appreciate my work
aww thank you so much!! Yess improvement takes time! Remember that its not just about improving externally, we can also improve our love for the craft and that is more important in my eyes!
I've been doing anatomy as of this week which has bummed me out because I'm not interested in drawing humans. I really like what you did here. I see now that anatomy might not be so bad after all. I'll try mutating my figures a bit and see how things go from there. Edit: I do urban landscape sketches and animals
If you arent interested then you dont have to do it. The art practice is about enjoyment so dont try to force it! You might develop a natural curiosity for it in the future but let it come to you naturally and trust yourself. Follow that deeper voice, you never know what beautiful path it may lead you down!
Such a beautiful and important message!! I hope lots of people see this; it especially seems to be a struggle among younger artists due to such unrealistic expectations posed by social media. I agree that art and social media shouldn’t have to be unanimous, and the joy really is in the journey 💛
Yess omg exactly. A lot of them miss out on the deeper exploration but I think we can change that I think with the right art teachers we can shift the mindset towards enjoyment and passion over validation. Thank you for the comment and for listening!
@@JeyRamm they already do! Your artstyle is very inspiring to me and has all compotents I love to have in my drawings. Looking at it just makes me wanna create something:) Thank you for what your doing, you are making a lot of people's life better, I hope you are aware of it.
I apreciate the advie, very helpfull. I ususally set this kind of videos to sketch and get out of a bump. It might just be me bu the voice over sounds like you read each sentence separately and with the same entonation. Not like a normal conversation alone but like reading a book/script. Once you realize it it feels flat and monotone, very similar to those that use voice to text. You seem like you have an awesome personality and maybe giving it a more natural tone to your VO can help it come across better! Instant subscribe and hope to see more videos from you soon!
Yeah thank you for the feedback! this is something im actively working on, I still get quite nervous speaking to a camera so I tried a few scripted ones to help me along I appreciate the honesty! Thank you!
Jey, I love your videos as your advice is very sound. May I ask what digital drawing program do you use? Thank you for all your art and creative efforts and generosity in making these videos. Cheers, Muffy from Australia.
Aww thank you so much!! Currently I use ProCreate on the iPad but Im sure there are other great software out there that you can try! I use this cause Im used to it haha
