Can I start my radio station at home with small equipment and less cash? I’m 16 and my parents are doing all the stuff for me so. How much will it all cost?

So this is informative. But It didn't answer my main question. Even if I get a license as a small church or non-profit theater group using maybe 8 frequencies, what equipment do I buy and what frequencies do I operate on? And how do I be sure my several thousand dollar investment is not obsoleted by new regulations in a couple years? Does the license guarantee me use of certain frequencies in a fixed location without interference?/

GREAT question! In theory, everything depends! If you are operating in the UHF spectrum, there are a multitude of manufacturers that will work and be compatible with your license that you purchase. As for your investment, your license gives you the permission to use your equipment in the allotted time. It does not protect you from the FCC making changes to their rules. In terms of UHF though, you will be able to change changes within your spectrum without fear of having the FCC book thrown at you. If you need more help, please reach out and we will help you further!

First off I'm not in the field however Im looking to get my GROL to help me possibly get a position with the company I'm with currently. I've ordered a couple of books. One book titled GROL Plus has all the answers and gives a detailed description for that answer below it. I just need element 1 and 3. Here's the hard part I'm sure some of you know 24 questions are choosen out of 170 question pool that's element 1. Element 3 is 76 out of a 916 question pool. That's insane so I ordered another book for a study guide to help me. Do they really choose those questions at random? Is there some more important ones I can focus on? It says in the book that the test will be administered by a Commercial Operator License Examination Manager and he/she will select the questions out of the pool. Do I really need to know the answers to 1086 questions?

I am studying for my ham license after which I might go for my GROL. speaking from ham experience so ymmv:
yes a subset of the pool is chosen at random, with an eye towards varied subject matter. but i have good news
once you understand why the answer was right for a given question, you can then understand several more in that subject and sometimes related ones as well. sometimes same situation, other times situation gets flipped on its head. once you get the hang of a bunch of the ideas, try some online practice tests and see how you do
      good luck!

The FCC is supposed to lower the cost of a simple GMRS license to $35. But it's still $70. You also can't _easily_ find the site on the FCC website. The result is that I ain't getting a license. With the licenses _you're_ talking about, it doesn't seem that different. We're talking about a gentle blend of incompetence and corruption. The only enforcement lies, in this case, with the commercial sector. 🚔 🗣📻🚓

Since the ARRL and FCC did away with the code any moron can get a Ham License .And that's pretty much whos on the bands now another reason why the hobby is on its way out. The three test Tec General and Extra class are pretty easy all multiple choice questions its just a matter of memorizing the right answer. There a dozen of study guides on line.. Another 10 years it will be just like the CB radio. Pretty sad 🤔😢😢At some point you will just pay a Lic. fee every 10 years just like a GMRS lic.

      How to get ham licence

I disagree, removing the CW requirement was an attempt to get more people into the hobby of amateur radio. While it’s lowered the difficulty to getting a license it certainly hasn’t turned it into CB. If anything it’s postponed the death of the hobby. I’m sorry to say this but ham radio is dying due to many factors, I don’t hear many young people on the radio anymore and the few new hams I do talk to probably wouldn’t be hams if the CW requirement still existed. As for removing the test entirely, I’m against that but I think it’s probably going to happen as a last ditch effort to get new and younger people into the hobby. I don’t think it’s going to work myself. Let’s be honest the main killer of amateur radio was/is the internet. Now with echolink, internet linked repeater networks, and digital modes, you can’t even call it a backup emergency communication system anymore in my opinion.
