I never stopped to make a comparison but Inspector Gadget and Penny are lowkey the original child friendly versions of Rick and Morty. Especially with the vibe inspector gadget gives being not fully sound of mind.
Gadget is actually fully ripped from "Get Smart" Don Adam's character Maxwell Smart, voice and characteristics.
No, I'm pretty sure Rick and Morty were inspired by Doc Brown and Marty
If Claw hadn't underestimated Gadget, Penny, and Brain Claw would have actually won. I grew up watching inspector gadget and I would often pretend that I was Claw's right hand man and main bounty Boba Fett. I would even go as far as having my own ride even cooler than the mad mobile. Definitely a great classic cartoon and kids today will never fully understand the classic cartoons like inspector gadget.

Gadget got into a sever accident that disfigured him so he went into hiding as Dr. Claw. Penny created the gadgety inspector gadget as a replacement. Claw wants to destroy his replacement.
In the movie gadget is a security guard who's car is blown up by Dr. Scolex, who later becomes known as Claw. In order to keep him alive gadget is given cyborg parts to survive. The tools the doctors gave him make him valuable to the police so he is enlisted. Claw on the other hand gets his hand smashed by a piece of debris from gadgets car and replaces it with a metal claw.
Scolex realized that no matter his advancement in the technology industry, his cyborgs still lacked the one thing that Artemis Bradford had at his lab and of which is in Brenda's possession.
Also in the film, Gadget is known as John Brown, Penny's uncle.

According to the original story, he apparently slipped on a banana peel and suffered horrific injuries which required surgery, resulting in him becoming cybernetic.

After shooting Dr.Claw, the Inspector was sent to jail for 69 years and was only visited by Penny on Saturdays, on the stone benches
The sentence was unfortunately heightened due to one eye witness, Officer Earl, who reported reckless driving.
Who ever told you that i got sent to jail for shooting Dr. Claw is probably a mad agent. Dr. Claw was a menace and he had to be put down, Chief Quimby even gave me a promotion for doing it.

Frank's Dr claw is better than the other claw voice they use sometimes.
It was actually Don Adams who played Inspector Gadget sometimes also played Dr Claw whenever Frank Welker was unable to play Dr Claw in some episodes which is why Don Adams filled in for him.

Yes, there was an action figure released back around the time the show aired which revealed his face, he kinda resembled a typical East European mad scientist.
