Another banger of a video Ryan! You’re a real one for doing all of this leg work for the community. I really appreciate the time and commitment you dedicate to deliver this valuable information to all of us, looking forward to future videos! I also want to add that I purchased 5 books from Heritage (my first time purchasing through them) and every book I bought had significantly brighter colors in person compared to the scanned images. It’s something I verbally expressed to my dad who was present when I was opening the box. The books I purchased went low in my opinion and I wonder if it is because the pictures shown in the auction were not accurate and made the books appear to be faded.
Actually for me the video went by pretty quick, you are getting better at not spending too much time on any one book, a good mix of telling the basic info and digging a little deeper on others 👍
When I did my silver/golden age videos I looked at only the top 10 books. It looked weak with a few exceptions. I also watched a bunch of smaller books that you are correct performed well.
Hey, Ryan! Great vid! Quick question for you (and this might be outside your wheelhouse): you mentioned that the X-Men 510 Sketch Cover went for more than you expected, and that got me wondering whether the buyer might have been intending on having it signed by Campbell (currently doing an in-house signing with CGC) for a quick equity boost. But then it occurred to me that, for those signing events, there is a fixed fee that includes both the signature and the grading/slabbing. Is there a loophole there? Could one get a $15k book re-graded without paying the "4% of FMV" for an Unlimited Value book if it's submitted for an in-house signing?
Ryan, you are such an asset to this community, keep up the good work. So glad to see the cap46 get that confirmation sale. I have a 2.5 and to see the 19k sale was like wow. But having the 4.0 sale, awesome. It truly is a historical book that reflects what happened in that time. It has to be emotional to those who were affected by it, either they lived through it or had loved one who lived or died through it.
Good episode. That Planet Comics #48 was either 2 people that really wanted it badly getting into a bidding war or .... somebody really wanted it because it was "FROM THE COLLECTION OF NICHOLAS CAGE". I see a lot of those squirrely first-time sales in a grade for various comics that brings in some out-of-whack price like this. Sad thing (well, if you're a buyer) is that it sometimes affects all the other grades around it. Hopefully not the case here as that comic is on my want list in around a 7.0. Definitely not at that price, though.
@@AutomaticComics Just to be clear, I was being totally serious in my comment. I would have been fine with two more hours! Love getting your valuation takes on these books. It's really helpful. I ended up winning that Adventure Comics #45 lot over on the ComicConnect auction. Thanks again for your help with my question on it.
Love to see how the sausage is made! Do you input listings manually or is there a way to export from Heritage? Obviously the pricing estimates are yours, I'm just wondering about the initial list
Automatic trolling the Djudjevic variant again. lol. Great video, it's good to accumulate more data and not just rely on quick, anecdotal evidence. Makes me hungry for books I cannot afford.
Now that CGC makes scans available I look for those to compare to the auction house scans when I’m worried about color strike or fading. There’s often a noticeable difference - I’m not sure how long that’s been the case.
It’s possible. But that was my point with the sub mariner 11 I got. I thought the same thing, but it showed up and looked like the picture from the older sale. That’s why I think it’s possible it’s something with their scanner or settings for how they post-process the images.
If the scan quality could make a 500K difference, Heritage would be goosing sales with higher saturation. I think the fever had to break a little on those biggest books, so I'm not too worried about a weak Detective 27 sale.
Color fade is one of the biggest visual deterrents for a comic. It can have a serious impact on the value of a comic. And when you’re talking about a super high end comic like this, where there are only going to be a handful of bidders, if it eliminates 1 or 2 of them, I could see it having a big impact on price. Also, faking the images to make them look better than they are is just a quick way to lose future business. You might win once but then lose when your buyers don’t trust you anymore.
I don’t even pay attention to Goldin. Like the Superman 1 that sold there for a million dollar loss only to sell on heritage a few months later for like 800k more. I don’t know many people that use Goldin and me personally, I refuse to buy from that platform. Doesn’t matter if the books are cheap, I don’t want my money going there.
I have three copies of the first appearance of brother voodoo at 9.8. I need to be clear, there are levels. It’s hard to work, make money and pay attention to all of these auctions. I can’t buy every single one of them… lol. I would’ve driven the price up to $15,000 had I known.
I thought for sure you'd talk about that Cinderella Love 25 :) - Know how much of a Matt Baker fan you are (who isnt?). Anyway, thought that CL sale was very strong.
It’s not a book I actually like very much and it didn’t have a surprising sale to me. I had it going for $55-60k and it went just over 60k, that was why I didn’t talk about that one.
You cannot compare a 9.6 and a 9.8. Pay attention to sports cards. A 10 can go for 10 times what a nine goes for. As time goes on, the top grade will simply be at levels of magnitude higher. Imagine that none of these books Are worth preserving. The only one I would want would be the top tier.
Overall, my opinion is that everything is DROPPING dramatically. - The economy is VERY SKETCHY. People are NOT going to drop $15,000 on a KEY, if it is going to be selling for $7,000 in 2025. Simple as that. It's too risky right now.
I’m not the guy looking for the 1938 version of “My dogs red rocket”..omg..it’s only $3700..I’m not your core audience I suppose. Some normal poors might wanna find a 5.0 book for $75. I’m not included.
This is the kind of content we need. Love the indepth break down. You are becoming my favorite comic content creator. Cheers
Appreciate the kind words. Thanks for watching 👍

I love your market breakdowns. Your coverage of Golden Age books keeps me following you. Thanks for sharing!
We should see some 9.9's and 10's of ultimate fallout #4 soon I'm sure of it!
That outro 🔥🔥🔥🔥lol.
Be careful, that song will get stuck in your head 😂
Thanks for another great video. Always an insightful look on where the market is actually heading 🙌

Great video. What was your estimate on the Tales of Suspense 40 9.2 that sold in this auction? Is $7200 high? Asking for a friend. 😀

This video was not long enough, Ryan. Thanks as always for the great info!
I looked at the recording timer when I was late into it and was like…uh oh…this is long 😂

You can export it from heritage.
Thank you Ryan, great video!...:)
Thanks!
Great Commentary. Thank Ryan.

Excellent video Ryan!
In addition to faulty scanner with.regards to tec 27 could it be possible it was displayed in a room where sunlight could be a factor.?

I was about to start selling off my collection. Maybe I should wait awhile?
Conservation can help a key book last many more years. Especially treating the paper should be viewed as a positive.
Was doing my tax returns while listening..it softened the agony thanks
I was so happy about the All Star Comics 8!!! Thoughts on the WEAK Goldin sale for that book?
I wish GoCollect stopped reporting those sales.

Really hoping to gets the love it deserves, such an undervalued major key. Alex, You are our spokesman for us who have an all star 8

Release the song at the end, it will be a number #1
Heritage doesn't use a scanner, they use a camera. That's what they told me.
Same difference, they need to check their camera/lighting setup then. Something appears to have changed with their images.
Do you have an actuarial day job?

Who out here buying books for 250k plus plus$$.. yall rich rich
People with a lot of money 🤷♂️
Why are you always wearing a cap indoors? What are you hiding? Receding hairline? If you do have it, try the blowout taper hairstyle.
I’ll keep wearing the hat thanks 👍 🧢
Crash . Hulk 181s keep going down . A 9.0 just sold on ebay for 5k
I honestly feel like that’s where that book should be in a 9.0.
It's the second appearance of the Hulk, so a correction is long overdue.
Tons of copies of that book out there and if a few 9.9s start popping on it, it will just add to the fact that it's still overpriced imo.

I don’t see a sketchy economy. Inflation is still a problem, but people are still paying good money for books, as we saw in this auction.
@@thomaspalmer6453 Average consumer debt is highest in history. You watch. After the election, the market will crash. It's all artificially held up.

Based on the new GOCOLLECT data and your data, it appears that higher value books are doing okay, but the on average collectible books less so.
