Gesture drawings are quick drawings that are more loose and fluid. They’re good to try because they help artists loosen up and build hand/eye coordination When I taught figure drawing I’d have my students do quick gesture sketches (like 5 minutes per drawing tops) and it’s good to use like 18X24 newsprint (so it’s less expensive). the one in ink wash is an example: debkarpman.com/featured-content you can do gesture drawings in pencil, but charcoal or ink wash works well too
