I saw him twice when he came to Toronto. He was just as funny and had brand new material. I love how he doesn't need to swear or make racial/sexist jokes to get a laugh. Every time I send his videos to friends who have never heard of him, they tell me he is the funniest comedian ever. Spread the word, folks, he is WAY too under-rated!
I saw Emo last night at a Weird Al concert in Toronto, the guy still got it! Still funny and rocking the same haircut. Was a real pleasure to see his stand up live!
sirius radio. I had never heard of this guy, and I now I can't get enough. Sirius has definitely opened my eyes to a whole lot of comedians that I would never have listened to otherwise.
USA 2018 shows - SPREAD THE WORD ! I'm returning to Boston & Northampton! On Saturday, September 15/2018, I'll be headlining the historic (built in 1916) Regent Theatre in Arlington, as part of the Boston Comedy Festival. On Thursday, October 18/2018, I'll be at the intimate Iron Horse in Northampton. PS: Please do me a huge favor and share this e-mail with your loved ones. Remember: only YOU can spread Emo-Philia! (I can't afford a publicist.)
Emo taught me something important when I saw him in London in 1991. Me and some friends were sitting in the front row (cheap tickets). One was wearing a Imperial College Physics Dept sweatshirt. Emo dragged the guy on stage and said 'What's that on your shirt?' 'It's the Schrodinger Equation'. 'I'm sorry?' said Emo. 'It's the Schrodinger Equation.' 'I'm sorry. I'm genuinely sorry for you,' said Emo. So never sit in the front row at a comedy gig unless you want to be humiliated.
When I first heard the term "Emo", I thought they were talking about a whole generation of kids who talk like Emo Phillips....In a way, I wish I was right.
This man is a genius. He is funnier than 90% of the so called funnymen out there today. He used impecable timing, current events and off the wall topics to make us all laugh and groan at the same time. He is still in my top five.
Without a doubt one of the greatest joke writers in the business. And he built a unique character, with a pedigree and historic lineage of the man/boy, wise fool. He's one of the greats.
I'm 11 and I thought this was hilarious. :) Teacher: Emo, it's been six weeks since I saw you in camoflauge class. Emo: I'm getting pretty good right? Haha
I haven't seen this footage probably since it aired...I actually remember quoting some of it to family, friends, & classmates in HS back then...WOW :-)
"I like going to the park and watching the children run around ... because they don't know I'm using blanks." one of his great lines (but perhaps not pc these days)
ah yes .. wasn't that the interview that began with: Dave: Emo - that's an interesting name .. are you Finnish? Emo: Finnish? I haven't even started yet ..
"when I was a kid I used to pray every night for a bicycle, then i realized god doesn't work that way so I stole a bicycle and prayed god to forgive me"

If you can't deal with his looks or presentation, just look up his jokes on the web. There are sites with groups of his jokes and they are golden. Comic genius.
This guy was ahead of his time. I noticed when I left the computer but left the audio on, for some creepy reason this guy's voice reminds me of Salad Fingers. o_O
Once during an interview Emo was wearng 1 of those cheesy Michael Jackson jackets that were sold @ K-Mart during the1990s. When the interviewer mentioned it Emo replied "Oh, does Michael Jackson hve a jacket like this too?" Brilliant with 4 sure!

Great comedy stands the test of time, and that passed with flying colours.
The only Emo in the world worth listening to. This dude rocks.
I have never seen his comedy before. He's damn funny 😂 I was laughing out loud. Awesome 👍 Thank you for posting this.
emo phillips is the prefect amount of insane that i love in comedians
He's such a lovely little genius. I just want to hug him :)
"...born a more comfortable distance from the Apocalypse."
Best description of old age ever! lol
His one liners are great!
I’ve been searching for this man for decades after forgetting his name haha I thought he was called Elmo
So pleased
sirius radio. I had never heard of this guy, and I now I can't get enough. Sirius has definitely opened my eyes to a whole lot of comedians that I would never have listened to otherwise.
Emo cracks me up when I'm depressed .He is my favourite comedian of alltime😈😂

Haha YES. That's all I can think of when I hear him. I love that show.
Emo Phillips is too cute.
I wore this tape out THREE times! I never saw him live. This is AWESOME!
Strangely "Ionic"! What a brilliant man.

If that was the case would u wanna be an emo
I had to look up ionic pillar lol First time I've seen his stand up and I liked it.
Emo Phillips is amazing. I'm British and not many people know of him here... which is a shame. One of the most unique, intelligent comedians ever.
I remember listening to Emo back in the early 90s when I was in high school... he was hilarious then and he still is now.
This is my first time seeing any of his stand up. And....... I love it.
This man is a genius. He is funnier than 90% of the so called funnymen out there today. He used impecable timing, current events and off the wall topics to make us all laugh and groan at the same time.
He is still in my top five.
I got to meet him at a radio station I worked at. What a pleasure to meet one of my idols!
Without a doubt one of the greatest joke writers in the business. And he built a unique character, with a pedigree and historic lineage of the man/boy, wise fool. He's one of the greats.
I'm 14 and I find this hilarious too :')
I love Emo!
There is hope for our generation :D
And how’s it going?
@@bootstrap9359 I'm doing just fine! And i think there's always hope for humanity despite the suffering and conflict :)
Thanks for asking though!
Doing this character for the first time on stage had to be the hardest thing.
15-Love. My serve again!
One of my favourite lines of his has to be: "Hey, didn't I see you on the TV last week?"
"I don't know. You can't see through that way."
That's crazy! I didn't know what to expect when I saw the weird-ass picture.
Too funny !!
he was ahead of his time :):)
His best joke: When I die, I want to go in my sleep, like my grandfather. Not screaming like the passengers in his car.
he is absolutely amazing! sometimes i wish i grew up in the seventies and eighties since everything was so much better. :) emo is hilarious!
I love him. I don't care about some stupid article I read on i-am-bored. This is great.
"Ok so I think "The Odyssey by Homer"
xD
Best part of the whole thing
"whatever happened to the classics?" (^-^)
i love emo, he's such a fantastic comedian! he has inspired a whole new generation of comedians!
I see where Mitch Hedberg and Jimmy Carr got their inspiration. I love it.
Steven Wright is still the best of all the short standup jokes and one-liner guys
Paul R +1
Sure Steven wright influenced him too
And now everyone does a shitty Hedberg impression. Hedberg didn't really bite from this dude.. some of the timing maybe.
"born in a more comfortable distance from the apocalypse". Im so gonna borrow that line!!! its great!
I duped this off of a rental tape like 15 years ago, and I'm glad I did, since I don't think it will ever see the light of day on DVD.
such an emotive comedian
Go Emo Philips! He is just as great live in 2015 as he was in the 1980's.
Gold, and that is just his jacket
ingenious how he didnt get a laugh with "brothers foot on my head" so he fained a hair ball, and went back at it.
He played a school yard bully on the show Home Movies.
man he really set up some jokes that i never saw coming i wouldnt be surprised if he was the best comedian of our time
! he's nuts !haha i love him!
saw him at reading a few days ago, as good as ever. legend.
He's such an unusual man, but I can't get enough!
My god is he funny. I love his delivery and his animation when he is onstage!!
That delivery!.. I wonder if this is where they got the inspiration for Stewart on MadTV
This is awesome!
It's Shannon from home movies!
YES
Casting him as a bully was genius.
I love his accent :D
Emo Phillips rocks. This is hilarious.
A friend of mine said that my stand up comedy material reminded him of Emo Philips.
Guys, there's an Emo documentary coming out. Google Stalking Emo.
BEST stand-up ever!!!!
Have faith TH-cam. I'm 13 and I find this hilarious.
emo come to minnesota ill enjoy your stuff it realistic and awesomly funny gratest entertainer.
I'm 11 and I thought this was hilarious. :)

'I said I'm getting Good!' LOL! best bit!
ah yes .. wasn't that the interview that began with:
Dave: Emo - that's an interesting name .. are you Finnish?
Emo: Finnish? I haven't even started yet ..
Oh I just discovered this guy, he's so funny.
I think I see a big influence of the Marx Brothers. Wonderful.
Rob.
Totaly standing with emo phillips right now
there is no better comedy
He's still funny all these years later.
He used the first joke on episode 9 of Dr. Katz!
retroscripting + stand up
"when I was a kid I used to pray every night for a bicycle, then i realized god doesn't work that way so I stole a bicycle and prayed god to forgive me"
lol this is funny, good job emo phillips ^.^
if anyone else told these jokes it would be good as he is a great writer but my god, his style makes every joke so much better
I love Emo!!!

They should make a movie about Emo's life and Adrien Brody should play him. No?
swade89685 it should be directed by Harmony Korine
I’m here from Dr Katz Professional Therapist. I had never heard of Emo before seeing him on there.
This guy was ahead of his time.
I noticed when I left the computer but left the audio on, for some creepy reason this guy's voice reminds me of Salad Fingers. o_O

I hope you get to meet him someday...I got to chat with him after a show and he's really sweet. ^__^
Emo Phillips is hilarious!
The original and best!
Strangely .... Ionic!!!!
Genius!
@SSpectre86 ...It's the column he's pointing to. It's an ionic column.
I might put that on my resume. If I don't get hired, I don't want to work there.
To me, a big part of his appeal isn't just the jokes, it's his looks and mannerisms that add much to the humor.
