    The "If anyone finds it" cabin sounds like a bothy. They're like a little cabin you find in Scotland where you can spend the night if you're lost.

    I like the little cabin. It reminds me of ours though your lake appears to be much larger than our lake and the water is clearer. Our lake water is quite colored from tannins.

    • @LittleCabinintheYukon
      @LittleCabinintheYukon  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi! The little cabin is pretty sweet. Just right for a few days when we arrive at the property and need to get things organized for the trip out to the main cabin. The lake that this little cabin on is pristine. There are no critters living in the lake, or fish for that matter. It's bigger than the lake at our main cabin. The main cabin lake is home to beaver, muskrats, otter and Northern Pike. It's still pretty clear, but we use a Berkey water filter to purify the water there, where as the little cabin lake is just boiled while making coffee. Thanks for watching and the great recipes for bannock!

    The bears would scare me. I've seen black bears from a distance but those grizzlys.... no coming back from that encounter! Beautiful area, lovely cabin.

    • @LittleCabinintheYukon
      @LittleCabinintheYukon  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi Holly! Surprisingly, in the 19 years we've been had the cabins, we have seen a bear maybe 3 times. A grizzly walked by the main cabin late one evening and completely ignored us. But, it can easily go the other way with them. I've had a few encounters with grizzly bears and thankfully it's never been more than a speeding up of my heart as they meander on their way. Others I know have had to shoot them or die. I would not want to have to do that, but would if I had to. It's all about being prepared. Thanks for watching and coming over to the new channel!-Sue

      Mice don't like dryer sheets and cayenne pepper also!!

    • @LittleCabinintheYukon
      @LittleCabinintheYukon  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@Lisa-cj6vx We've tried several things that are supposed to keep mice out. Lifebuoy soap, dryer sheets, mint extract...haven't tried cayenne pepper though. And I do have a supply of it at the cabin, so will give that a whirl, but so far we haven't had much luck. We take our cat with us and she does a good job of keeping them out of the cabin when we are in residence. But, you know that old saying "When the cats away, the mice will play!" i do a big clean up at the cabins each time we arrive, and do leave them as clean as possible, with little for them to be able to get into. The squirrels make a bigger mess though. Our main cabin now seems to be squirrel proof, which is wonderful. Making them mouse proof is almost impossible.

    Beautiful pristine land! I’m a young man and this is my dream! How much property do you have, and was it affordable?

    • @LittleCabinintheYukon
      @LittleCabinintheYukon  3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Hello, Mr.Luke! Yes, it is very pristine and beautiful. I honestly can't say how much land there is. We own the trapping rights to 1000s of hectares of land. We also own land within the trapping area where we can build. Owning the trapping rights gives us the right to also build cabins on the land without it having to be on land that we actually own. It is an amazing way to be able to build yourself a paradise in the wilderness. In Canada you need to take a course to become a registered trapper, which then allows you to purchase a registered trapline. Only people who have taken and passed the course can do this. I'm not sure what the rules are in the US though. Like you, we had this dream when we were young and were able to realize it this way. I wish you much luck in realizing your dream.

    Wat about moss for insulating the cabin

    • @LittleCabinintheYukon
      @LittleCabinintheYukon  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Moss works pretty good if it can be really forced into the crevices. It does dry out after time and needs to be redone periodically. This little cabin was originally done with the pink fibreglass insulation, which, as you can see, squirrels and mice have discovered the value of🐭. As we only use it occasionally, we haven’t invested too much into re-chinking, but at some point, I’m sure we will be.

    • @LittleCabinintheYukon
      @LittleCabinintheYukon  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thank you! To sanitize the counters, cooktop, etc, I use a diluted bleach-water solution. We have to make sure any hampta virus is killed. It is a deadly virus carried by some rodents, and is left behind in their urine. Thanks for watching!

    TH-cam has everything out of sync. This video shows you cleaning up squirrel mushrooms from I guess the first cabin. Then you were talking about the main cabin so I thought I would follow and see what it look like, but it never came. The closest I found was you clearing the path with the quad but you never made it to the cabin. Then all I found were the RV life videos. I guess nothing is in order.

    • @LittleCabinintheYukon
      @LittleCabinintheYukon  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Frank...I'm sorry if things seem out of whack. This channel is brand new and so far only has 2 videos up on it.I also have a channel where I feature the other part of our life--RVing. It was my first channel and has about 80 videos on it. We do arrive at the main cabin in the video about clearing the trail and ATVing in, but it is not seen except for a bit of the front of it. It will be in future videos, I promise!

    • @LittleCabinintheYukon
      @LittleCabinintheYukon  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      We do to want to eliminate them, we just want to keep them out of our cabins. We don’t spend much time at this little cabin though so it doesn’t get the attention it would need to really become rodent proof.
