Transvaal Rugby Highlights - Super 10 1993

Transvaal were the strongest provincial rugby side in the world in 1993. They had world class players and most of them would feature in the 1995 Rugby World Cup. They won the Super 10, M-Net Nite Series, Lion Cup and Currie Cup in 1993. Lead by Francois Pienaar they played really impressive rugby. This side was coached by Kitch Christie, who would go on to coach the Springboks to World Cup glory.
This is a tribute to Transvaal's 1993 Super 10 campaign, which they won at Ellispark against Auckland.

You forget how great this team was: Francois Pienaar, Johan Roux, Hennie le Roux, Hannes Strydom, Kobus Wiese, Theo van Rensburg, Japie Mulder, Ian Macdonald, Uli Schmidt, Balie Swart etc. Great teamwork and off-loading.

A few players brought in from N Transvaal but what an amazing team in 93.
Was so happy when they beat Auckland in the final.

why was uli schmidt no chosen for the '94 tests and '95 world cup?

Cory Rugby was still amateur in 1994 and Uli was a practicing doctor in Pretoria. He couldn't always take off work to tour etc. He didn't tour NZ in 1994, but did play against Argentina, Scotland and Wales at the end of the year. Sadly he injured his neck and was forced to retire before the 1995 RWC.
