    60 to 0 is more important than 0 to 60.
    Funny story when i was a kid on my bicycle i got something stuck in my spokes and i went over the handle bar. I got lucky though, i landed on my feet and my bike hit me on my back, but not too hard. But it did spook me

    learned this the hard way on my bicycle at age 8. only used the rear brake from then. then when i got a bit older and started going faster and there was more mass to stop, it wasn’t enough so i taught myself to use the front brake properly. it really has saved me numerous times and that’s just on a bicycle, i imagine it would save my ass so much more if i rode motorbikes

      Even downshifting on a motorcycle can cause the rear tire to slip. Front brake is probably 3× as effective as rear

      yeah its really just the basic stuff, you need to learn to use both brakes at the same time. Too many people only using front brake

    The most essential tool for speed is incredible brakes, and knowing your limits. In my years of riding bikes on and off road, the only times I had some bad accidents is when I wasn't familiar with the roads/trails I was on, and when I allowed my fear to override my competence. Feeling fear on a bike clouds your thinking and murders your reaction time. Know your limits

    This is totally accurate - had a proper scare a bit ago as I am still learning my bikes limits. Pushed it outside my comfort zone (how we all learn) and got a little carried away. Got taken by surprise by a red light, and had to brake rapidly. Knowing that (obviously) just biting the front brakes would send me flying, I applied brakes as strongly as I could without doing so. Thought I wasn't gonna make it for a few seconds! But, the bike outperformed my expectations and I was slowed down waaaaaay sooner than needed. All fine!

    I've been riding motorcycles for almost 30 years, but I have far more experience with diesel trucks. One of the most important lessons to learn when you are hauling heavy loads - especially downhill - is engine breaking. Especially if your rig has a manual transmission. I try to use my brakes as little as possible...I've applied this technique to my street riding, and it works well for me. The stock brakes on my ZX-9R are pretty vague, so I've really had to learn how to use my RPM's as a stopping mechanism. And I've found that most times that I've had to grab the front brake, it's because I wasn't anticipating the situation correctly. I guess an argument can be made that engine braking is hard on a motorcycle's engine, but I figure sport bikes were designed to naturally rev at high RPM'S. Plus, that high-RPM downshift sounds way cooler than screeching tires 😎

    In Sweden you first need to complete 3 practical tests right before you're allowed in traffic for the actual driving test, one of which is a controlled braking in 45 and 55mph. If you cannot stop fast and controlled, you're not allowed out on the street for the driving license test.

      ​@@MayorBeeMayorBee The other 2 tests are, a low speed (around 1-3 mph) around some cones and then a U-turn without setting your foot down or braking unnecessarily. Followed by an evasive maneuver test where you have to keep your speed at 30 mph without slowing down, zig zag around some cones keeping the same speed followed by a U-turn and then do the same thing the way back and finish with controlled braking in that 30 mph.

      Three months ago I swore I would never not ride ATGATT. Now sometimes I'm semi squidding with just helmet, gloves, and boots. It gets hot in Texas. Some days I just can't do the jacket or pants man. I understand why he does it now.

    Taking an MSF course, two, or few definitely helps. I know taking the courses have helped me a ton. They're expensive and definitely worth the money. I'm certain if I hadn't gone that route, I'd have gone right back to my old bad riding habits and ended up on a DDTFM TH-cam video by now.
    Gixxer, do you ever plan on taking the Arkansas State Police challenge? I think it would make for an interesting video from two different perspectives. :D

    I love when you’re brake so hard you can literally feel your front tire start flexing from the force. It flattens out so much you can actually brake harder. I screwed up and burned a corner flew off the road so I definitely value this video. I ended up too close to the edge of the road tons of gravel so I couldn’t slow er down. Ended up in the ER for 2 weeks and 12 surgeries later! Good stuff

    I know it's an old vid... but MSF course back in the early 2000's for me as a new rider helped a lot. Brother-brother sold me his old 87 Harley Softail FXST for a song... but had to get the license endorsement as part of the deal. Lot of top-heavy weight to learn on as a first bike. That's almost as bad as jumping into a 1 liter as a first. Bro taught me a lot, having been taught 45+ yrs previous by our uncle in a sandpit (braking/dumping/etc). The greatest thing I was ever taught... the 12+mph counter-steering by my bro since 2nd grade. I came into a corner at about 65mph being a knucklehead (pun for the HD peeps). The corner is a left turn, 20mph posted and uphill banked (luckily). I counter-steered, dragged pegs and kickstand and made it through. I'd most DEFINITELY had been straight thru the building on the corner and in a pine box. Sobering, rode within my skills and reason after that... but could whip the f out of the corners in that ol' pig after thousands of miles (became a daily in the summer) and the various long treks around New England.

    YOU HAVE TO GET EXPERIENCE, NOTHING CAN FAST FORWARD YOU TO KNOWING EVERY SITUATION AND NUANCE,GOT TO PUT IN TIME. And don't ever just try and copy what you see someone else doing. Unless it's on a Grom.. you can try whatever on a Grom. You'll be fine.

      Back in the day when I worked for a Harley dealership we used to lose a lot of customers over that. Harley newbies start on Harley, and 900 lbs makes for a lot of momentum for one small tire patch to manage, and we didn't have ABS in those days. Guys would lock up the front and then go down.

    I had a guy in a truck stop rite in front of me while I was on my buddies cbr 600rr. I looked back for a spilt second not even tuen forward and the truck was stopped. I had my wife on the back thank god I know how to break like your talking about. There was a guy on a Harley behind me. We stopped up the road, the Harley dude said, man I seen guys go down hard from using to much front break. Anyways yes , you gotta be smooth yet quick it’s hard to explain. Practice people, makes perfect literally.

    2 months into riding after getting my first bike, this was the video that made me do it, THIS video has saved me 3 times now. First time someone blew a red light. Second a Tesla pulled out in front of me. Third, well I just didn’t realize my friend stopped at a right yield when I thought he was going to go. He didn’t. I swerved and stopped beside him so nonchalant he didn’t think anything of it lol. Other then the drive home I spent the first week practicing braking on safe roads getting better and better then learned counter steering, clutch-less upshifting, clutch-less down shifting, half clutch up shifting, rev matching/engine braking, proper posture, cornering posture, and correct seating position/foot positioning. All because this video actually inspired me to ride right. Thank you bruh. Stay safe.

    That save at 12:05 is a perfect example of why MX is absolutely the best way to learn riding. I’ve always told everybody the same exact thing about finding the limits of a bike in a safe environment. The “boomer” mentality is to essentially ride like a grandma and absolutely never push your bike in the name of safety but I say find all the limits for emergency situations, 95% of riders would’ve crashed right there for sure

      Riding mtb and dirt bikes can definitely help, but there are major differences that can throw you off. Besides the weight, grip is the biggest difference. It's really hard to powerslide through a corner, or using the slide to change your angle. Just something to keep in mind

    Wish I watched this a week ago. Learned it the hard way the other day when a car stopped in my lane. Locked up one of the tires and hit the car head first. ABS or skill would've made it to where I either didn't hit the car, or didn't fracture my spine at the least. Figured I'd have time to practice evergency manuvers but i only had 9 days of riding and maybe a few hundred miles under my belt when I needed the skills I didn't take the time to learn. First thing I'm doing when I get back out there is spending an entire day practicing emergency braking.

    ABS has saved me from ice patches on early winter mornings, and from a million little balls of windshield glass that were left all over a lane from a car getting smacked.
    Non-ABS has failed me on dusty canyon shoulders and uneven surfaces.
    ABS does definitely offer some rider vs. environment benefits

      I guess. Seems like it depends on their intent. For commuters it's great. Certainly I can understand the rider could intervene better than the electronics will argument, and the learning argument.
      Mostly the aforementioned would have been small inconvenient crashes I'd rather not have had / am glad not to have. Tire doesn't only lock at high speed... Well, except the uneven surfaces one!

    Nah for max stopping force you want to hold on with your knees and lean back to get that rear wheel back down again, like they do in the motogp. The limiting factor in how fast you can stop is that stoppie angle so the farther back you can get your weight, the faster you can stop.

    Make sure that the first time your rear wheel lifts is when you were practicing hard braking, from speeds no greater than 20 mph (that way the bike doesn't have enough speed to flip over).
    On my old bike I was used to 4-finger braking, but on the new one, it was too easy to lift the rear, so I switched to 2-finger braking. But without practice, I wouldn't have even known that, and I would have flown over the handlebars in a recent traffic situation.

      So the tuono won't quite do what he's talking about unless you turn the abs down to 1. Otherwise, it tries to prevent you from doing a stopping. My RS660 is the same way.

    I was riding a 883 Sportster for about a year when I decided I wanted something sportier and thought I could get a 600cc sport bike or something with similar power until I rode an Aprilia Durodorso 750 and quickly realized that I simply do not have the skills to be riding a bike in that power range (90-100hp). It was a blast but I knew right away it was too powerful for me. I ended up buying a VStrom 650 for a couple of grand which is plenty quick enough for now, is fun to ride, doesnt care about the shitty Chicago roads and I think will be a great stepping stone for my next bike which will hopefully be something like the GSXR 600.
    I think most guys think they can handle a 600cc Sport bike but until you ride one you have no idea how fast they really are.
    Guys who ride a liter bike with 200hp and ride em well have my upmost respect.

    The pilot 5s are the best tires I've ever ran I run a Diablo before but I didn't like it. The pilots really change the feel of the bike it's like riding on clouds 💯👌

      @@ComplexWork I believe it was Diablo 3s but the tires didn't grip as good as I'd liked , the first time I ran the pilot 5s it just made my bike feel lighter and more agile. It was literally like riding a completely different bike and I really loved the grip they have in the rain 👌both are good tires and to each there own. Stay safe 🙏

    The fact you are talking, making a video, you're all distracted and you accidentally lose traction and wobble around, while approaching a stopped car at a decent speed then you expertly
    just let off brake to get traction and stop, laughing it off. Im getting my first bike next week a MT09 and I aspire to be this automatic dealing with these situations.

    Stoppies.. I remember watching Eric Hoenshell (sp?) doing 100mph stoppies quite a few years back in OKC. That's a painful skill to acquire

    To your point I rode for a couple years without taking an msf course and I thought I knew what I was doing! When I took the course I realized I did not! Taking the course taught me lots of life saving maneuvers I would 10/10 recommend getting it! Plus your insurance is cheaper and you won’t get tickets for not having your endorsement!!! One thing I still need to do is go to an empty parking lot and practice swerving and emergency braking.

      Be careful with parking lots tho they have gravel sometimes (my bike has scratches now 😢)

    Yeah, the front brake is very important.
    I feel learning to use rear brake correctly is extremely beneficial as well, and almost always start with my rear brake.

      I like using the rear brakes to test the surfaces first to see how slippery it is. Not really in a panic stop but in general

    Seriously though the amount of people that ride motorcycles and don’t know how to brake properly is absolutely insane. If you cant do a lil stoppie on purpose then you dont know how to brake to your bikes full ability. No one said you need to rolling but if you cant lift your back wheel then you have never experienced to use the full braking capability on your bike. So hit a parking lot and learn stop being afraid of dropping your bike get a cage then. Also make your back wheel skid and understand the feeling. The last thing you want is to experience these things out on the road cuz when it happens your going to panic but if you just practiced it you would not be surprised and likely wont panic and be able to keep your bike upright. Learn this shit before and dont be the typical riders that blames a car for their reason of crashing when 99% of the time it was avoidable if you learn to ride your own bike to begin with

    I remember a video where a tractor trailer turns in front of a guy. He panics, lock up the front wheel and ultimately ends up high siding the bike. He gets thrown under the truck, run over, and dies. If he could have more effectively panic braked he might have been okay. That has always stuck with me. I practice hard braking, but my bike has abs that keeps it from endoing. At some point I should probably turn it off to feel what it's like for the rear to come up some.

    mr. brah, i think you could make a very good instructional video series of the important fundamentals. i think the most important thing is being aware of your conditions. People need pay attention to where the road is going and how the road conditions will be in 4 seconds minimum.

    Your front break provides 70% of your stopping power , 30% rear. What your saying is true; However when using your front break you want to use slight rear breaking ,and if you will not break in time you need to be looking for a exit grab clutch , release your breaks ,and swerve. These are some other things you can practice once you get used to your front breaks. Never use breaks while swerving you can easily low side or high side depending. Over all this was a great vid Brah. You should defiantly post some more safety vids as a lot of kids/new riders will most assuredly watch what you do ,and go for that prematurely.

      Maybe for a car. A bike 90 percent or more of the brakes are your front. Maybe more, several track bros use only the front brake.

      @@county_bear9509 There is a definite difference between track ,and street. I have done both ,and have been riding since 1986. That being said I do not think you have a full understanding of "emergency" breaking (No offense) on the street. On the track trail breaking depends on your riding style ,and situation generally meant to pull you deeper in to your turn or what is called rear wheel steering. However this is not what Brah is talking about he is talking about grabbing to much front in a panic. Using "slight" rear breaking can give you more stability , and lessen your stopping distance. I also rarely use rear breaking but, I am also aware of how to when it comes to a emergency stop situation ,and how much extra stopping power it adds. That is where I get the 70%/30% from because you can shorten your stopping distance by 30 % when using rear in a emergency situation if applied correctly.

    great video it's really nice to hear it on youtube especially from you since you have the reputation of someone doing some crazy stuff. I feel like you are reaching more person than Dan the Fireman for example since I feel like if it's coming from YOU people might tend to take it more seriously.... Also another great tip is to not start on a supersport we all want to have a big sporty big going zoom instantly having power wheelies in fourth gear but start for a year or until you get confident on your bike on a smaller bike not necessarily a 200cc it can be a sport or a sport-touring at 600cc but don't rush things...
    Yall take your time and start slow, even a 400 or a 500 will be faster than most stocks cars out there so for the ego it's still great but you'll still have more maneuver over your own life! :)

    Some older biker gave me two advice when I had A1 125cc bike. He said always keep that black rudder downside and it is not the speed that kills, but the sudden stop.

    I panic braked once at low speed. Luckily it was such a "soft" low side. I've had to brake from high speeds since then and have gotten so much better. If the MSF is good for one thing, it's teaching how to use brakes gently at first to load the tire, then you can start squeezing damn near as hard as you want at that point. Taking my endorsement test this coming Sunday and I'm heckin' stoked.

      Yup, one of the main things I've learned over the years of riding all kinds of bikes/ebikes, is progressive braking. Never panic brake, since you'll either face plant, or high/low side.

    100% facts. I started on a 2001 Honda 1000f superhawk. No abs, no tcs. It’s not the fastest in the world by any means, but it’s still a liter bike. My FIRST time braking I damn near washed out. So, I went to a long ass parking lot and learned how to emergency brake. Learn to brake before you even think about going on the street.

    thank you so much for this video i’m a new rider and I low sided one day and now I know it was because i pulled the front brake too hard, and the road transitioned to a brick road while I was breaking hard, and it might have been a dirty road.

    I had my first true panic brake a few nights ago. I've only been riding a couple of weeks but it was terrifying. I assumed I was going to lose it all, but luckily good progressive braking saved the day

    Someone has probably already said this. But I think with new riders, they panic and grab a handful of brakes thinking they're grabbing the clutch.
    I watched a new rider do that back in the 90's while I was getting gas. Messed him up pretty bad, no gear on whatsoever. Hopefully he made it.

    Keith Code taught to stay off the rear brake, many people crash on the rear brake as it's not easy to have good feel with your foot. Aside from low speed slides, wheelies and messing around, ignore the rear brake, it will free up mental power to focus on more important things. Note that some motoGP have a thumb brake for better control but they are excellent riders.
