He’s supposed to say Devil slash. And he’s a Devil themed robot. Funniest thing is I knew this for quite a while now and never pieced together he’s also yellow and devil themed
I love that x4 still gets so much love even 20 years later! double was always my favorite battle aside from sigma in the game sad he didnt get to stick around more than like 1 encounter
Weird that I'm saying this in a random youtube video remix of his theme, but Double would have been a lot more compelling if he had a different name (idk like Sprocket or some shit) and when he transforms he explains he's 'a' "Double" and that there are 'more' of him out there, posing as regular Reploids waiting to strike. So like, at any point, any future character you introduce, you're thinking "wait fuck, are they another Double????" and it would give you an excuse to bring back this theme. Like imagine if Pallette from X8 was a Double.
Given how many times Sigma came back and how loose they play with rules of robotics, I don't mind. He's meant to be a reference to the Yellow Devils who can transform, anyway.
He's made of liquid metal that can easily reconfigure it's shape. What's impossible is how Zero keeps the silky luster in his long hair when wading through ballistics, plasma, ice, explosives, and lightning.
No wonder he's weak against Double Cyclone. His true body is a jelly you can slice through his core. In response, his jelly morphs into drones or options as counterattack.
His body isn't made of jelly, though. It's liquid metal durable enough to deflect everything except fully charged X-Buster blasts and the Double Cyclone. However, he's the only boss I can recall in the Mega Man franchise that gets more dangerous when you hit him with his weakness.
