    I had this kit when I was a kid. Didn't do a very good job of it then. I'm so glad there is a reissue. Gonna take another run at it (with the other pirates kits!)

      For sure, who can't have fun with a model kit like this?
      Scratch that, we've seen plenty of sticks in the mud that take models way too seriously, but I never will! I love em!

    How fun is that! I love these kits - I have the first one - yet to get this one, but it's on the list! Great job - the additional trees add a lot of dimension. - Mark

    Another sweet job, well done! I really appreciate that you go beyond the typical "bones = bleached white" approach; when my older brother built the original version, he based the paint job on various bones from the kitchen and lightly built-up each joint with traces of "rot." My only concern would be keeping sufficient contrast between the bones and the sand. The palm trees definitely add a dimension to the kit that it was lacking.
    Haven't seen any new Jolly Rogers announced since these two; hopefully they'll continue. (IIRC, only a couple of kits remain before they start recycling figures in different combinations and bases.) Meanwhile, for creepy skeleton fans, Tom Daniel's bobblehead "Ghost of the Red Baron" is coming back next year!

    • @hpiguy
      @hpiguy  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      There are three of the Pirate kits out right now. Two more next year from what I've heard.

    • @ScreamingScallop
      @ScreamingScallop 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@hpiguy Right--this one and "Pinch of Peril", plus "Hex Marks the Spot" from before. Two more next year? Great news! Probably Lindberg's versions of the original series' "Hoist High the Jolly Roger" (featuring the only "human" pirate) and "Dead Men Tell No Tales." Those two figures (plus the crab) were set on a new base for "Ghost of the Treasure Guard," while figures from the original versions of "Dismay" and "Pinch" were used to create "Freed in the Nick of Time."

    Amazing results, and the obvious fun you have doing these pirate kits is infectious. Question: how do you go about washing the parts before you begin assembling?

    • @hpiguy
      @hpiguy  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I use a dish tub from the dollar store and generic Simple Green. Just soak and do a quick once over with an old toothbrush, rinse and let dry.

  • @raymondblanchard2213

    Food for thought; the artist who did these boxes thinks that we have extra vertical bones in our human chest 😂 The Walt Disney model shows, as I remember painting it in '72, the shirt is ragged and the only vertical bone on our chest is the sternum. So those are part of the shirt, not to be left bone color.
    You have such great detail to make your models look life-like, I thought you'd have noticed this detail.

    Hi, I just found several of these kits at my local hobby shop, including Tentacles of fate. What brand of primer do you like?

    • @hpiguy

      Rustoleum primer is what I use on nearly every video.

    Hey Chris while I’m waiting for Dismay be the end to come back into stock I’m working on Hex marks the spot. I want to paint the bones but I don’t have a hobby shop close to me just a Walmart any suggestions of what I can find there to paint the bones

    • @hpiguy
      @hpiguy  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Walmart carries craft paints that I use a lot of, Apple Barrel and Folk Art brand, pretty cheap usually. In the sewing/craft sections.
      You can pick an off-white that you like, or buy a few colors of white, tan and yellow and custom mix to find the color you like.
