EPIC Masai Mara Experience at Sala’s Camp - do you think Giraffe Manor is worth it?

- Part TWO of our amazing trip to Kenya is officially HERE!
Brennan and I landed in the Masai Mara National Park, where we would be staying in a luxury tent at Sala’s Camp by @TheSafariCollectionKenya
One of my favorite parts was that we practically got an immediate game drive on the way to where we were staying because there are SO MANY ANIMALS.
We happened to be staying here during mating season for the Hyena’s-but don’t you worry, we managed to keep this vlog PG13!
The property we stayed on was absolutely gorgeous! We had a riverside view from our room with Tanzania’s border just on the other side of the river from us.
On our first sunset game drive we got to see tons of beautiful wildlife and finally got the closest we’ve ever gotten to a LEOPARD.
There were a ton of animals on our wishlist for this trip and something I came to discover was that the key to seeing all of them on this trip would be letting go of our expectations for seeing them.
We did in fact get to see all of the wildlife we hoped to, including a bunch of male lions AND finally found a cheetah!!
We even got to witness our first live kill when the cheetah we found took down a baby thomson gazelle, which although it was an emotional experience for me, it was also really beautiful to witness the circle of life before my eyes. Both Brennan and I spent a lot of time pondering just how precious life really is after this trip.
During one of our game drives we were also able to visit a Masai village where we met some of the most incredible people ever and our guides, Eture & Kopai, had us literally in tears at the end of our stay when they gifted us the most beautiful necklaces to take home with us.
We ended our trip with a stay at Giraffe Manor where we got to of course feed the giraffes and take some gorgeous pictures! It was so much better than I even expected and I cannot wait to come back to Kenya and bring our family and of course baby O with us!

IT IS SO TRUE! I found myself so emotionally and spiritually overwhelmed by the magnitude of it all! It's like... it's always been like this, yet we forget that. We forget about the "circle" in our "life". If you've added Africa to your list, I applaud you, because you will not regret it!

I'm glad to hear it was pretty easy to get all of your photo ops in♡ I was so worried about this part. Is it standard for the butlers/staff to take photos? Seems they probably know the best angles. Also, were the robes included with every room? We definitely want to do the robe picture in the morning at one of the outdoor tables . Are there any other tips that will make our experience more seamless?

How long was your trip? We are planning our first trip there but we are clueless.
We did 3 nights in Sasaab, 3 nights in Solio, 3 nights at Sala’s Camp, before our one night and a long day at Giraffe Manor. That was an amazing amount of time for us, but we also went gorilla trekking in Rwanda before that! I think…. If I could do it again…. I would do the same itinerary, but add a night to Sala’s camp in the Masai Mara. Even if I had to give up a night at giraffe manor! But that’s just my preference!

Kathrin could you please tell me how much should I tip the driver at Sala’s Lounge? (2 day stay) Beautiful vlog 🤍
We tipped quite a lot! but that’s because we like to invest in relationships with the locals who share their land, their knowledge, their culture and their way of life. I certainly don’t think that generally people tip as much as we did. But I would encourage you to tip $50-125 per day to the driver and the spotter (separately if possible in case there are power dynamics at play). But like I said, you can do more, and if you need to do less that’s ok! I just like to try to leave more than I take - and if you are able, I encourage you to as well 💗🥰 HOPE YOU ABSOLUTELY LOVED IT! Masai and Sala’s camp was a freaking dream trip! I’m so grateful and happy that you experienced it as well!!

But what was your conclusion? is it worth staying at Giraffe Manor. Im in the process of booking my trip and I am deciding whether to do that and stay at salas camp or stay at four seasons Serengeti, I am only staying at Salas Camp so I can stay at the Giraffe Manor...so is it worth it?
Ok GREAT QUESTION. I’m going to give you honest feedback here. **Full disclosure we paid for our whole trip - not sponsored in any way**
Giraffe manor is cool! It’s cool for photos, and for the giraffe feeding experience! But it wasn’t the home run we expected. It’s more of a one night, “done it” kind of experience. Personally I loved the animals in the wild MUCH more.
Salas camp however, WAS EPIC!!!! We had the best time there! Saw ALL of the big 5, and the cheetah kill (which you saw in the vlog I know), and rhinos and omg! We saw EVERYTHING! Our guides were amazing!! The room was amazing! Salas camp was an 11/10 for us!
Now we have dear friends who have been to @fsserengeti and …. WOW. Jeremy Austin and Angie Villa have highlights on their Instagram, but they freaking LOVED it there! Can’t speak from experience, but if you are able to do Sala’s, save money by skipping Giraffe Manor and doing Four Seasons Serengeti, I would highly recommend it!

That is the thing, that it is hard to believe that Salas Camp is more expensive than 4 seasons. But if you say it was fantastic, I will do 1 night at The Giraffe manor…For us is better to get to Nairobi because we are going to Seychelles after :) that is why we are more inclined to Kenya instead of Tanzania

May I suggest something? Try reaching out to Safari collection and state that you are comparing between them and four seasons. See if they willl match. I can’t imagine that they wouldn’t be flexible given that travel has experienced some pullbacks in the last few months!
Also, also for Itur and Kupai as your guides! Absolutely amazing! They will show you everything! Just approach it with no pressure to see anything… and you will see EVERYTHING!
