OUR FIRST AFRICAN SAFARI IN KENYA (Wait till you see the BABIES - rhinos & lions!)

  • We took a trip to Kenya, flew on a private jet from Kigali, Rwanda, and stumbled upon...
BABIES! Baby Rhinos, Baby Lions. All the Safari Babies.
This adventure took us to the Samburu region of Kenya, and we stayed at the @TheSafariCollectionKenya property of Sassab. There we were graced with the most incredible experience, thanks to our incredible tracker, Justus, and our guide, Mike. We saw our first giraffes, elephants, crocodiles, baboons, and everything you could imagine -- we even got to see the SUPER endangered and rare Wild Dogs! We had monkeys break into our bathroom and p**p everywhere, ran into the most poisonous snakes, and had a darn good time being escorted by armed rangers so we wouldn't get eaten by the Leopards at NIGHT! WHAT?
After we wrapped up our trip in Sassab, we hopped on a Safarilink bush plane, and flew to the next Safari Collection property -- Solio Lodge, tucked into a mountainous region in Kenya. Solio Lodge is a private conservancy, focused on allowing Black and White Rhinos to reproduce since they are such a decimated, endangered population of incredible animals.
There, we met our family. We had the honor of being led through the bush by Fred Kinaya, a Masai tribe guide, and Blackie, a Samburu tribe tracker. They became our family the moment we met them, and they were incredible teachers but became even better friends. We saw BABY rhinos, learned about Rhinos, and explored the incredible reserve.
We explored the Aberdare Mountains, where we saw OUR FIRST LEOPARD!
This was such an incredible experience, and we cannot wait to share it with you!
If you feel called to support this beautiful region and people (like we did), you can donate to one of the many programs supported by The Safari Collection (we donated to Feeding Young Minds -- giving 1000 kids meals for the whole year!). Link is here: www.thesafaricollection.com/f...
Thank you so much for your support, and I hope you enjoy this adventure as much as we did!
    CHEERS KENYA! Till next time!

This safari is now on my vision board. My fav part was baby rhino. It was so touching. And I knew they were going to see a leopard because when Kathrin said they would if it’s meant to be, it sounded like an affirmation ♥️. Also Brennan is so down to earth. I liked when he said when you see peoples hearts, words don’t matter.

Kathrine. This just showed up on my you tube. Am glad it did though a year late. Very well taken beautiful vlog that captures the essence of the Safari. Actually you are right Safaris can be exhausting because you are waking up early, sometimes driving on bumpy roads but that's just part of the experience since you will not be there for long and being its a lifetime time experience most tourists just soak it in all as part of the experience.
Having said that the normal safari is usually a week long or five days depending on what you planned. To finally relax after an exhaustive safari i would suggest you combine a safari and beach vacation. Kenya has one of the most beautiful beaches in the world which is a hidden secret and beach accomodations. whichever suites you.
Many Safari companies don't promote the beaches in Kenya its usually the Wildlife. Ideally those in the know go on safari and then end up at the beach for relaxation and go back home taking a flight from the beach locations which have an international airport Mombasa. One week is ideal for a stay but some say they wished they could have stayed longer because there is so much to see and do. From the north end to the south end along the coast of Kenya there are beach accomdations with alot of history places like
Lamu: an island founded in 1370 still maintains much of its past; Ever since Mick Jagger and Jerry Hall visited Lamu in the 1970s, it has drawn a bevy of celebrities and global icons from European royalty to entertainment icons such as Sting, Kate Moss, and Madonna. Why do they love Lamu? It’s a perfect mix of temperate weather, long beaches, friendly locals, rich culture, and a sense of anonymity that separates it from other famed paradise islands. These links are all in different parts of lamu. Lamu is a series of islands with accomdations and beaches. There are no cars in lamu just boats, dhows, canoes and donkeys.

Malindi: Known as "little Italy" The history of the Italians in Malindi goes back to the opening of the Italian-run Broglio Space Centre off Kenya's coast. The first Italians to arrive in the town were engineers and scientists, who loved what they found. Word soon spread in Italy about Malindi's miles of pristine beaches, abundance of seafood and good-natured inhabitants. They opened hotels, restaurants, built beach villas and became economically integral in the town.
Naomi Campbell owns a home in Malindi which is featured on Architectural designs, homes for celebrities. here is the link it has 6m views thus far th-cam.com/video/KIqQ0gowzt4/w-d-xo.html
Watamu: "Tamu" means sweat in swahili. Landing in Nairobi/Kenya in the winter of 1933, taking a trip to coastal Kenya Ernest hemingways (google him ) discovered the unspoilt wonder of the blue lagoon of Watamu and having a swim. Crystalline water, lush vegetation, baobab on the islets a few tens of meters from the shore. A paradise that remained in his heart and which he never managed to write, unlike what he did with the savannah and his travels in Africa.
How did he say later: "I could not convince myself that we had come to such a wonderful country, a country from which we had to come out of a dream, happy to have dreamed."
(by the way, it is said that he was introducing the term "safari" into English terminology and then world to mean an African excursion). This link is the hemmingway's beach resort in Watamu Kenya
    www.hemingways-collection.com/watamu/
Diani: Diani beach is considered the best beach in Africa and sometimes rated as one of the best beaches in the world. It has won numerous global tourism awards year after year. You can not go wrong visiting Diani beach Link to one of the many beach acomodations
    th-cam.com/video/UMCGVkIs09w/w-d-xo.html
And so much more at the Kenya coast
I just checked the safari collection and they did not have a beach option. But many tour companies can recommend to you a beach vacation if you ask. Kenya has a 300mile coastline so the options for beaches are many.
Karibu Kenya.. means.."Welcome to Kenya" in swahili

      @KathrinZenkinaOfficial  ปีที่แล้ว +1

Oh my GOD! This is such amazing info!!!! I actually did know about the beautiful coastline, we just opted to spend time "into the thick of it" :) But I had no idea of all this history, and of just how many unique beautiful places we have left to explore! Next time in Kenya will be a real treat!!
That you for this beautiful response, and for taking the time to share it with me. I'm grateful you enjoyed the vlog, and I appreciate the energy I feel from you. Brennan and I were blown away by the people we came across in Kenya -- exceptionally wonderful people, beautiful land. Thank for you sharing it with us

@@KathrinZenkinaOfficial Thank you so much for your response. Actually many of Kenyas tourist places have some very interesting history. The area you were in is commonly known as "Northern Kenya" which on its own has its past history. it would take too much space on here to write. But as you were flying am not sure whether you could see Mount Kenya Africas second tallest Mountain behind Kilimanjaro which is the tallest. Mount Kenya hosts a resort Known as "Mt Kenya Safari club". I will get down to the history of its formation.
In the 1950s, American actor William Holden was on a hunting safari near the town of Nanyuki when he came across this plot of land. He and two partners purchased it in the 1960s, and the Mount Kenya Game Ranch was born. Holden turned the place into an exclusive resort and it was for members only. Membership was by invitation only. It was a Mecca for the international jet set - its list of members reads like a Who's Who of royalty, aristocracy, and the rich and famous. Among them Winston Churchill, Bing Crosby, Ernest Hemingway, John Travolta , Steve McQueen, Conrad Hilton, Charlie Chaplin. The rich and famous still retreat to the Club for relaxation. Catherine Deneuve, Liv Ullman, Stefanie Powers, Ali McGraw, author James Clavell, film producer David Lean and footballer Joe Montana have all signed the guest book. The History of the hotel actually goes back to the 1930's and changed ownership.

Just thought to link different sites for more perspective on the Famous Mt. Kenya Safari Club. makes an interesting read.
From what i know today Stephanie Powers makes her home there till today. She jets in and out between Mt. Kenya and her home in California. She is patron to an animal orphanage in that area which actually is linked to the Mt Kenya safari club whereby visitors to the resort are taken to the orphanage
