I made the pipes for this bike. The bike came to me as a collection of parts and I rebuilt it including making quite a number of parts for it ,the pipes being one of the things I made.
Thanks, but, couldn't you install the pipes 2 Not go trough the carburetors intake, to not warm the intake air which decreases the power and endurability of the engine ? Plus, the bike would be more symetrical ....
One of these will show a clean pair of heels to most modern litre-bikes. They were light, with a LOT of horsepower, provided you know how to use it, and ride the bike. No sissy electronics to keep you out of trouble. This is a RIDER'S machine...
+KathrynLiz1 People like you are a joke! Sissy electronics, so what? Motorcycle riding is about fun and being free on the open road. Plus all those so called sissy electronics can be turned off! I'm guessing you ride an old pile of junk and are super jelly about modern sports bikes! fuck off!
Bollocks, they were the business in their day but their day was '77 - '80 they wouldn't get anywhere near a modern 600 racer let alone a 1000. Doesn't mean they're not fabulous bikes though, just get a grip on reality.
@Greg RSVR The bike had 140hp similar to 600cc and that bike was from 1977, with current technology 750cc two stroke could go up to 250hp. If we go to Suter MMX 500 specs.
the reason you rev a 2stroke on warm up is so you dont oil up the spark plugs. reving a new rebuild in nutral is not a problem... infact you cause more problems not reving it...if the plugs arent hot enough at idle/warm up you risk a cylinder not firing and gumming up the rings which leads to rings not seating properly and early rebuilds. Also consider the oil/fuel mix is for high rpms and at idle there is too much oil in the fuel.
I have two TZ's . Raced for 8 yrs on a club level. Still have all my bikes. An H2, an RZ500 with forks, swing , 90 over , Swarbrick pipes also set up for 32's. You're right about the plugs , you need to keep them firing clean as the engine builds to 80c. TZ's work best with fine wire plugs. Depending on how lean you want to go with the mix and jets , you can help by going colder with the plugs. Besides keeping the plugs clean on start up , you also seat the ring faster on a rebuild.
always wanted a TZ it was one of the bikes that were at the top of its game of its day. My brother had the kawasaki triple 750 with race dogs and the shittiest brakes to ever grace a bike, known in Australia as the widow maker, and was outlawed and banned from sale here. Good times 8)
@@Team-fabulous I kind of get it with a highly tuned two stroke racing engine, yes at cold temperatures I can see a potential for plug fouling but to mention gummed up rings is just nonsense. Then again fools can have their say on the Internet as much as anybody else I guess
I have always wondered how the needle/vacuum diaphragm system in carbs worked, since I am a relative noob when it comes to carburetors, especially on motorcycles. This video was perfect for improving my knowledge. Thanks!
@musiclovr2 It was discovered (on the 500's) that the flat side carbs helped on slower, winding tracks, while the round slides were better on sustained high speed tracks.
He knows what he's doing. If you watch the 250cc motoGP class and watch them warm up their engines, this is exactly what they do! Not to mention that they only put about 500 miles on an engine before they re-build it. 2 strokes are a different beast that what you're used to!
RARE! What an amazing machine. I used to fantasize about owning one when I was a kid. Good job I never got hold of one coz I'm sure I wouldn't still be here........not in one piece anyhow!
always remember helping Alex George in the pits at donington in the late 1970s when i was a kid, he let me rev the bike like this while he did some setting up
love your bike . own a tzr 250 with just 1000 km on it , its a beast to drive ,hit bout 4000 rpm at it lifts the frontend and everything gets blurred to i reach 13000.... and the next gear kicks in, wouldent mind trying this wonder. LOVLY job onit awsome pipes and really big holes in those carbs, almost black holes....
I've just come. Lovely 2T radge machine! Astralites. Nice. Beautiful work. I despair of some of the jealousy laden, contradictory comments people leave on here. Go to any paddock area in the 70's-80's, and that is exactly the kind of throttle blipping you'd hear from every freshly rebuilt machine in the area. Some people. I wish I had the skill.
Yes, there is a reason. Those carbs have no idle stop screws. You can see that if you look closely. They are racing carbs and are not meant for idling. If you close the throttle, the engine stops running. It may be for safety reasons, so if the rider leaves the bike, the engine shuts off. As for the video, gently revving the engine like that is a normal warmup method that minimizes plug fouling. He's also confirming all cylinders are running.
@YZR750 The pipes are very nice! I've pondered building my own pipes with stainless/tig welding 'em. I found a great template for the dimensions.... tempting but very time consuming. yours came out great!
That's why there is a Break In period. I see this a lot of shows like American Chopper where the old man (Paul Sr.) , revs a new engine. I read that before Porsche test drives there cars, they gently rev the engines and allow the oil temps to come up properly. Of course, this is on their air/oil cooled engines. The same principle applies to all engines, or should be. Nice machine. Best of luck you to you.
@shakennstirred The wheels are astralite not Maxton. They were made at the time these bikes were raced. Hence they are period wheels and correct fitment for the bike. Yes the 750,s came with wire wheels but the wheels were particular to that bike. The total number of tz 750,s ever made was just over 500 bikes. Many of which got effectively destroyed. If you think you can still get some origional 750 wheels then I am afraid you will be sadly mistaken.
They are! When they come on the pipe at about 8,000 they become a handful and if you're running 34's with power jets that dump another 60-70 jets worth at around 10,000 , you will scare the crap out of yourself if you're not ready for it!!
@musiclovr2 No flat slides because the bike is a tz 750 and tz 750,s were not built with flat slide carbs. They were built with the same carbs as fitted to this bike. I wanted to build a tz 750 not some sort of mongrel machine. Unfortunately some parts are unavailable and have to be changed but no problem getting the correct carbs.
Where'd you get those awesome Astralite wheels? COOL! This bike is so futuristic in it's construction, it may be a two stroke, but it's outer appearance is that of a modern bike. Single shock, liquid cooled, I dare say it was ahead of the four strokes of the period, it had a lot of high tech in it, but is thought of as an "old school" technology. What a lark! It's awesome. Especially for a Yamaha of the period. A true bike lovers' bike!
yes i see what you meen ,i however dont know if this is the actual first start or the start up to preheat for riding as we used to do,but never had a piston or cylinder sleeve scoring or set after a rebuild on twostrokes only if i had a bad batch of pistons.
well its a 2 stroke ,not a 4stroke so its got plenty of lubeat where it needs it,and the sound makes you think its ery high when infact its not even in driving range rpm so dont be alarmed
That is one beautiful machine. Nice work on the pipes. How did you know how and where to run them? From what I can hear there was some spot on machine work done on her also. Bravo. Now can I try to turn a few laps on it?
I love my harley , BUT TWO STROKE YAMAHAS RULE. I MISS MY RD ( had a 400 with a tz250 crankshaft) that bike had no manners. THE TZ 750 BOUGHT US OUT OF THE STONE AGES.

The TZ750 has two 180 degree twins joined, right? Not one 90 degree crankshaft, ignition? That would sound even better, but the TZ has one of my favourite sounds anyway:)
@satelliter440 Try listening to the engine instead of watching the rev counter. Like many old rev counters it as lost its damping and hence reads very high when blipping the throttle. The bike is probably revving to about 4000 rpm on peaks not the 10000 rpm the rev counter says. Then again I know nowt about tz yams. Only built and raced them for over 30 years. Try checking my other videos , You will see my own bikes. Blue tz 350 and Red / white tz 750

pure music, anyone got video of stan stephens lc750/4 ,he made 1 then sold it ,completed for under £2000 ! i was gutted ,total bargain, tho, not as fierce as a tz i'm sure,2 strokes .love 'em

@@bonkeydollocks1879 agreed.... Once you start any bike you have to rev it. What the hell is he talking about!!??

I hope to see more vids of these Yamahas
I love 2 strokes! Nothing comes close!
@musiclovr2 It was discovered (on the 500's) that the flat side carbs helped on slower, winding tracks, while the round slides were better on sustained high speed tracks.
The tz and the RG 500 are my favourite 2 strokes 😁.
That sounds beautiful 😍👍🍺🏴

Consortium Racing in Melbourne Australia is casting new cases etc, some parts are available. Awesome bike.
Its just a shame smelly vision hasn't been invented cos the 2-stroke waft from this would be a damn sight better than anything you'd get form a spliff
Awesome!!! What a beast! Beautiful Astralite wheels

dude they're roundslide carbs - no vacuum like a CV on a fourstroke.
mine, she was too afraid of my 2 stroke. Now I'm single.

@YZR750 flat side carbs barely do anything for performance anyways.
you can actually feel that burning oil coming straight from exhaust pipes, breaking through the screen and reaching your nose!
isnt there a problem coz ur carburator is too close to the exhaust?
