I bought a 04 Touareg this weekend. I'm still getting to know the car but I wondered how well it might do packing up and going camping. I think this more than answers my question lol

I know that this video is to demonstrate the touaregs capabilities and that's why they never put off road tires on it because most people are not going to go to that extreme... But damn with an off road tire that thing will slay any course...

From the times when VW was building without thinking about cost reduction.
Some might chosen that they can select SUV for some purpose using but they can not predict the future distance in sometime.

I do have to question the logic of putting a car with road tyres through so much mud. The Touareg is a beast off road, but road tyres just don't cut it through the mud.
To show what the OEM can do straight off the dealer's lot.

impressive yes, but proper tyres would have helped 5 times more. Over using the traction control like that is a sure way to overheat and damage the brakes.

See TFLOFFROAD on YT for a few US Touareg comparos against other rigs.
The Touareg has some good hardware, but the software aspect of its operation lets it down compared to mechanically-controlled operation found in 80 series Land Cruiser and M-B G-Wagon. Touareg is 3rd best, at best.

Why? If you wanna go off road like that, why not get a vehicle that is made of that type of terrain?
Well seeing that it showed one clip of it being pulled out, I'd say it's made for that. Why do you think it was made AWD? So it can do things like this. Why do you think he bought this car? So he can do things like this. An AWD anything is made for off road. Now if he had a honda civic, ok yes I see your argument. But as of right now, you sir are wrong. His vehicle IS made for that terrain.
It handles that type of terrain just fine, you just need to ditch the street tires.

this car is great. nice looking and luxurious interior but serious off road capability when needed. only other car that can do this is the range rover but that costs about double this.
Too bad I won't be able to get a car like this for several years from now.
Lexus GX and Toyota Land Cruiser could do this as well for a similar price to the Touareg. But there is not much between them.

Wow, this car just isn't built for this terrain. Its an SUV, not a car for driving through oceans. And why do you think there's smog comming out of the engine-room? Use your Land-Rover and bring this poor Touareg back on the street!!
do you realise it has low range a 3 locking diffs, Hill descent etc. they are very capable real 4wd's

Stay on the tarmac with the Touareg. For offroad driving use a Defender or a LandCruiser.
You don't know shit! Touregs are monster in offroading with decent tires. and the Mercedes Geländewagen is as good if not better than your Landcruiser and holds it's value better.
