@Django8006 Clive Bunker is the most underrated drummer to come out of England. He is easily as talented as ANY drummer you want to name, he has the technique, the groove, the style, the inventiveness, the power, the finesse, ALL the best aspects of a world class drummer! He is brilliant. Phenomenal!
Was fortunate to see Tull on their first American tour, along with Led Zeppelin, in Chicago, 1969. I was 17 and I still remember that show and just how great this guy was.
Cream put out "Wheels of Fire" with Toad, Gingers great Drum solo. All the sudden every group it seemed was including a "drum solo??". It was so nice to hear a Drummer like Clive who actually had some chops to put together a OK solo with out putting people to sleep.
While Barriemore Barlow is an exceptional drummer, I've always thought Clive Bunker suited Tull better. His style just seems more natural and fluid, and suited the slightly jazzy feel early Tull had, especially with Glenn Cornick on bass. The two just complemented each other perfectly.
The introduction of Barriemore in the band was also when Tull just got even deeper into a prog sound imo. In that sense I like to think Barriemore suits their proggier outings more than Clive
Absolutely wonderful drummer, and a huge influence on me when I started playing. Still is. Such speed and finesse, particularly in his single stroke rolls. Those first 4 Tull albums (plus Clive's tracks on "Living in the Past") are masterful. *Little known tidbit: Clive used to cut off the tips of his drumsticks and play with the butt ends. You can see it clearly at around 1:55.
Clive had the best inventive style to play with the music on the Tull albums, Such a unique different style but was perfect to the songs. Couldn't be better.
in the summer of '70 (i think) i was at a festival in canada called strawberry fields and after having snuck backstage with a buddy, decided to liberate the stage itself. we made it up without confrontation and stood unobtrusively off to the side. the next thing we knew (as some psychedelics started kicking in) tull rushes the stage and starts playing aqualung. what i saw clive bunker do i've never seen another drummer do----ginger used to come close. i was watching pure muscle and bone . he was the drum. 'melanie' gave me a kiss on the cheek after her set. what a night. had to eat all of the hashish before we hit the border on the way home. it was a tough job but somebody had to do it.
Amazing, just amazing! What energy and creativity. Rivals anything Bonzo ever did. Keith Moon lacked the superior chops and stick control Bunker has. Fun to watch, but no Clive Bunker is he. Bunker just put on a freakin' clinc.
“Dharma for One”!! Effin Brilliant solo work!! It’s sad that nobody really does these long technical drum solos anymore!! Plus Clive takes off his hat with his right hand in order to hit the center cymbal with his freakin skull at 6:48!! Such unparalleled talent and skill.. Mr. Bunker doesn’t even look at his hands, feet, or any of the drumheads and cymbals except for the last minute!!! Fortunately Tull (Mk.III) was able to stay on their quirky path of being a supergroup when Clive left to start a family and Barriemore Barlow took his place.. right after “Aqualung” was released in 1971 (what a noble guy)!!!
When people rate their greatest Rock Drummers we always here the names Baker Bonham Moon to mention a few , then next time include Clive Bunker an amazingly talented Drummer who deserves with out a doubt to be right in that esteemed mix
I handed over to him once at a jam session and definitely the best drummer I have seen up close and personal but for me no one grooves like John Bonham. Clive Bunker was more technical so for me fell between Bonham, Paice and Palmer but I think most drummers would accept that positioning except Ginger Baker who laughably dismissed John Bonham. I think you need to be a drummer to understand why John Bonham is considered to be the best by many drummers from many eras.
Chops are easy. A lot of people have good technique but the solo has to be based on good ideas, which have to flow. Above all it has to be musical. Otherwise it's just "See what I can do." Bunker qualified on both counts
Outstanding to his grandchild. He inspired me greatly. I saw Jethro Tull twice with him. Then. I saw Passion Play. Great drummer. Thank you for your body of work. Legend.
i think all the mucisians from tull are underrated. but as far as drummers i think clive bunker, carl palmer, keith moon, alan white, and neil peart are the best rock drummers ever.
I'm going to be that asshole lol. This is actually not what you think. This is actually Unca Carmine (Appice) disguised as Unca Clive for reasons that cannot be disclosed. Anonymous sources say that Carmine and Clive were both involved with testing prototype equipment from Ludwig. Atomic Trashman and underground musicologist, Ace Jennings, has said that both Carmine and Clive are rumoured to have been testing a Supraphonic prototype that was made from an alloy alleged on board a spacecraft shot down over Long Island. Allegedly, Unca Ritchie (Blackmore) has declined to comment on this issue with the statement: "I've already said too much." Anonymous sources again claim that Unca Carmine purposely included this in the DVD put out by Hudson Music some years ago as a cover for White Hat operations within the music industry. From a sonic study conducted by the Fowler Institute of Natural Research, it has also been observed that the following drummers were also involved in Quantum study: 1. Ginger Baker 2. Mitch Mitchell 3. John Bonham 4. Cozy Powell 5. Ian Paice 6. Bill Ward If you've read this far......be proud you're a heathen lol. Stay tuned.......💊🤘
Christopher Bassett He is still playing great today - so his 'slouch' doesn't seem to have done him any harm... in fact his posture seems to have improved with age!
Well, the fact that you misspelled Bonham shows how much you probably know about the guy. Listen, don't get me wrong, Clive Bunker is an amazing drummer, one of the best there was in the world of rock, imo. But to say Bonham couldn't touch him is waaaay off the beam. Bonham did all of his kick drum work with ONE pedal, no double pedals or double bass drums. His right foot was astonishingly good. So good, in fact, that Jimi Hendrix said he had "a right foot like a pair of castanets." John Bonham, in the realm of rock drummers, is untouchable. There will never be another like him.
yes, of course, he is one of the most influential drummer but the rock comunity gives to him more drum fame than he needs..., a lot incredible drummers, best than him..., its only because he stays in zeppelin...., a lot of drummers have really fast right foot like carl palmer, ian paice, bill brufford, carmine appice, jonh hiseman...., and a lot of this not always usses the double kik, sometimes playing with only one kik faster than bonham, but yes, triplets are from bonham in inmigrant song, of course, but still i preffer a lot of drummers a alot of other bands...
Outstanding to his grandchild. He inspired me greatly. I saw Jethro Tull twice with him. Then. I saw Passion Play. Great drummer. Thank you for your body of work. Legend.
i think all the mucisians from tull are underrated. but as far as drummers i think clive bunker, carl palmer, keith moon, alan white, and neil peart are the best rock drummers ever.ohh don't let me forget mitch mitchell
Hes my grandpa :)
A truly great drummer and nice guy, along with Martin and Glenn (who I was fortunate enough to meet at a Tull Convention).
Your grandpa is amazing !
Hope "Grampa Clive" is doing well!!! All the best from Canada!!! 👍🌟🖖
Amazing and classy
A top man!

Clive Bunker is truly underrated in the drum world….. greatness
Cream put out "Wheels of Fire" with Toad, Gingers great Drum solo. All the sudden every group it seemed was including a "drum solo??". It was so nice to hear a Drummer like Clive who actually had some chops to put together a OK solo with out putting people to sleep.
BOTH great drummers...Barlow & Bunker!!!😎👍
While Barriemore Barlow is an exceptional drummer, I've always thought Clive Bunker suited Tull better. His style just seems more natural and fluid, and suited the slightly jazzy feel early Tull had, especially with Glenn Cornick on bass. The two just complemented each other perfectly.
I agree.
Glenn and Clive really made the sound of the great early Tull
The introduction of Barriemore in the band was also when Tull just got even deeper into a prog sound imo. In that sense I like to think Barriemore suits their proggier outings more than Clive
💯 agree
Bunker was very good. Barlow expanded Tull and the rest is history
clive and mitch. 2 of my favs
Absolutely wonderful drummer, and a huge influence on me when I started playing. Still is. Such speed and finesse, particularly in his single stroke rolls. Those first 4 Tull albums (plus Clive's tracks on "Living in the Past") are masterful.

Bless you and bless your uncle, one of the most phenomenal drummers of our time! He was a huge influence on me and drummers all over the world!
Best solo ever!!!
Him and Elvin Jones are my favorite drummers. So lyrical.
This is so cool...cause I WAS THERE!!! Security didn't wanna let 'em in cause they thought they were homeless dudes...Catacombs in Houston Tx.
That's hilarious!!! 🌟

@@astroglydecowboy CLASS, BROTHER.
Kinda like…Gene Krupa meets Bonham meets Marty Feldman. Great player. Almost forgot about him. Thanks for the post.
as far as classic rock drummers he is one of the greats
He was really more of a jazz drummer who was able to infuse that seamlessly into rock. But I agree in the most part.
❤❤❤❤
Absolute legend
Wow, great flow, and great improvisation!
Amazing, just amazing! What energy and creativity. Rivals anything Bonzo ever did. Keith Moon lacked the superior chops and stick control Bunker has. Fun to watch, but no Clive Bunker is he. Bunker just put on a freakin' clinc.
Yeah Clive and Barrie. Just extraordinary.
A truly great and under-recognised British drummer. I saw him with Steve Hillage, and he was brilliant.
The studio version of a New Day Yesterday blows me away.... Clive played to the music so well and had his own style, those were his strong suits.
Saw Clive with Martin Barre and his band about 2 years ago. It was him and another drummer about half his age who Clive drummed off the stage.
He was underrated, & twice as good as John Bonham & Ginger Baker combined😳👍😎.
0:12 Cozy Powell comes out from behind to check out Clive. Cool.
WOW!!!!
Think cosy is next lol
@@petebest22 LOL. He'd played with Tony Joe White two days before, so sure he was hangin' out.
That WAS Cozy! Head tilted to experience the brilliance
Wow. Clive is one of my favorite drummers of all time. Sure, he hits his sticks together sometimes, but it's his creativity in his solos that I love.
Cornick,Barry,Buncker,Anderson......Dream team
That was an amazing solo!
Just as good as Bonham,Moon,Paice,Baker etc....
He does things here Moonie could NEVER do(not that Moon would bother trying).
+Christopher Bassett Better than, in my opinion!
His kit sounds great and a very influential drummer effortless flow between snare and toms makes it looks easy it ain't

GREAT!!!
Mitchell was the perfect foil for Jimi, The guy was just a beast....
Clive made those jazz/blues songs rock, but Barrie's style was well suited for the prog records to come....
I love this guy
Happy birthday, mr. Clive Bunker w/Jethro Tull !
My favorite rock n'roll drummer
When people rate their greatest Rock Drummers we always here the names Baker Bonham Moon to mention a few , then next time include Clive Bunker an amazingly talented Drummer who deserves with out a doubt to be right in that esteemed mix
The greatest era of rock music 👍
He never took a lesson, learned on the job. That's GREAT !
Before there was Peart,Clive Bunker was a badass..
Clive rocking out with a Ludwig Acrolite snare drum in tow👍🏻
I handed over to him once at a jam session and definitely the best drummer I have seen up close and personal but for me no one grooves like John Bonham. Never mentioned in any top ten list why I don't know oh yea they have to make room for Tommy Lee 🤣🤔😪
its all about the dynamics
A fellow Lutonian!
I had no idea.
PSA!!! No lines of cocaine were harmed in the making of this jam session.
Clive Bunker, playing matched grip. Don't tell Buddy Rich!
Hear hear!!!!
Certainly my preferred Tull drummer.
Bonzo and Ginger, in the conversation....
Owes me 75p. Went to see Jude supporting someone I didn't care for and the buggers had decided to split.
He's my uncle :-)
@wildnites558 And any of the other Mothers of Inventions drummers.
Outstanding to his grandchild. He inspired me greatly. I saw Jethro Tull twice with him. Then. I saw Passion Play.
Great drummer. Thank you for your body of work. Legend.
Bonham seems to be influenced alot by this guy in a much more tighter way
they thought tull were homeless? thats awesome. thats how i dress, too!
@MusicLessonsComp is true!
Like Bonham
PEART!!!!!
@noodledwarf Then obviously you have never listened to Steve Gadd, Jeff Pocaro or Terry Bozio. ;^)
Mitch hands down
i think all the mucisians from tull are underrated. but as far as drummers i think clive bunker, carl palmer, keith moon, alan white, and neil peart are the best rock drummers ever.
7:04 here comes Ian
That would be Bari Barlowe....
Neil who?
clive and barriemore.!!!!!!
Led Zeppelin referred to Jethro Tull as "Jethro Dull". Led Zeppelin couldnt come close to the talent within Jethro Tull!
They were so sloppy live, when it really matters in my opinion. Zepp had a lot of great albums, but a lot of crappy tours if that makes since.
Oranges and apricots....
if somebody knows like itself to deiser care calls
is this niels long lost brother
I've only just noticed that Clive is using skills that Tad Sergeant uses on the Bhodhran ? th-cam.com/video/XfmyImq6B_A/w-d-xo.html ❤💙💛💚
neil lol
I'm going to be that asshole lol.

Buddy Rich on Steroids.. Strong Drummer ol Clive was and is still.
buries bonham
Only flaw is his posture. I wonder if it has led to any physical issues later in his life.
Christopher Bassett
He is still playing great today - so his 'slouch' doesn't seem to have done him any harm... in fact his posture seems to have improved with age!
is sir clive still alive?
yes, still alive
I could never understand Clive's comment on his own playing: I'm not a technical drummer!
Real good drummer, but his double bass work starting @ 3:38 is sloppy. Sounds like a guy still learning how to use it.
@ 3:38 he was inventing it! At the time, Ginger baker, John Bohnam couldn't touch him.

Sloppy? This is his style, he plays a bit loose, but despite that he is very accurate, " Like somebody still learning how to use it" Horsecrap!!
dont
Good Post.Fuking good drummer ,but and the remaing song? Or even the begining ou the entirely.,Dharma 4 1
When you hear the sticks connect that's a mistake
Barriemore Barlow much better then Clive
