      +TeddyBearBoy Really the Avatar is supposed to just be the ultimate Grand Master. Knowing each element (fighting style) makes you adaptable to countering just about any threat. And achieving enlightenment. While the martial arts in the show were of Chinese origin, there are splashes of Buddhist and Japanese concepts here and there.

      +William Robinson Airbending was based on Bagua.
      Waterbending - Tai Chi
      Earthbending - Hung Gar
      Firebending - Northrrn Shaolin.
      Toph used either Northern or Southern Praying Mantis, and the swamp and sand benders used arts closely related to those of their home element.

    And from your explanations you ve planted seed of seeing through the veil...beyond the form...after all...all humans practice with their body n soul...the clothes are only clothes....clothes is not the martial art....
    I bow in respect for this golden nugget ...a lesson to remember..

    • @Raynwoke
      @Raynwoke 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Le Ravo I study Karate, and now I am also studying Kung-fu.
      I think you should start with Wing Chun. This is because in my experience, Wing Chun and Bagua are not distinct, but actually related. Wing Chun is like the basis of Bagua, as its movements and techniques are similar, but more closed.
      Think of it as a ripple in a pond from a stone dropped in. The point the stone dropped is Wing Chun, but as the ripples grow outwards (your study of the art) it moves you naturally into Bagua, and this makes it easier for you to grasp the dynamics of the art.
      Hope this helps.

One of my all time favorite martial footage is O-Sensi when he was very very old. That's the type of relaxation my sifu is talking about. the "body form" is not that of internal art, nor even that of traditional Chinese martial art. Because the practitioner applies the form he has developed in his discipline: Japanese style ... You can not really practice Bagua zhang without his body form, which is the foundation ...

  • @ChriSvoXaPFS
    @ChriSvoXaPFS 9 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Baguazhang (pa kua..... etc) are all based on a set of principles. To gain the reflex is to decifer the movements taught into applications with priciples in mind. Now this gentleman's showing of bagua is his interpretation. Bagua used to require a mastery in a previous art before being taught to the new student.... and that base art was enhanced with bagua principles...alignments etc. So it's not that the arts combine.... but you enhance your foundation, and use what you have trained / reserched. By using what works for you alots you greater success in the martial side of the arts.

    I believe this was probably uploaded for students already aware of proper alignment when walking the circle. Most common would be mud wading step. I believe he even demonstrated proper footwork training done straight line. People remember these are this mans take away from studying and training this art. It is old yet relatively young in comparison to other martial arts. Also this art is about self cultivation as much if not more than fighting application. The chinese were very practical in using shen fa and shou fa to encourage healthy posture and awareness of ones structure.

      +John Hardin The second half of that doesn't make any sense to me, but I can explain internal martial arts easily enough. Internal vs External martial arts: The terms are used to describe the movements and energy application within them. External martial arts are styles like Karate that don't care about going with the flow of your opponent, they actively go against them and use muscle strength to win. They normally involve lots of striking motions and breaking joints by pushing against them (think armbars).
      Internal martial arts are ones like Baguazhang or Tai Chi Quan which involve redirection of energy with very little work on your own part. They do involve strikes as well as the external arts, but are generally much more inclined to dodge or redirect an opponent than to catch their attack and break the offending limb.
      Hope that helps. inb4 "*adjusts glasses* Uh, you're wrong"

      Unless you do the breathing method known as reverse breathing and are doing the qigong that builds the connections between the various soft tissues and combine all of that with proper body mechanics driven from the dantien (all of which culminates in the skill known as Qi) then it's just a bunch of empty forms. It takes years of daily practice to build up those connections. Qi isn't life force or some pseudo-mystical BS. It's breath power. Using the breathe to drive the body. Nothing mystical about it.

    • @IThinkSoBrain
      @IThinkSoBrain 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Do you have to learn all three forms (taiji, xingyi, and bagua)? No. They're independent systems. Xingyi and bagua complement each other well, though, and there are systems in which they're combined.

    That’s not ba gua. It’s the shape of ba gua. If you think that the internal arts are technical, you wind up with empty talu that don’t work very well. The amazing part of internal arts is the internal part. If you teach the internal arts, you must address the internal from the first moment. If not you’ve simply externalized them.

    It seems not very effectiv to use two hands, just to block one hand of the opponent. In a selfdefending situation the enemy will use both hands to attack you. If you need two hands to block one hand of the enemy, you will need a third hand to block the second hand of your enemy. For example look at 1:38. In a real fight the left hand of the "bully" will knock you out.

    lol.. actual fighting is messy, get over it. dancing like a polish girl on ketamine is, at most, conceptual art but has nothing to do with martial arts.

    I kinda get triggered by this bs. It is not gonna work in a real altercation. U gonna look stupid and get hurt if u trust these techniques.

      You probably shouldn't judge on a vid about elementary apps for the static palms in his system. Go watch the vid of him doing 16 palm changes. Might revise your opinion.

      PG Skills ... Can you post a link to his 16 palm changes?

      @@pgskills you think Bagua is only having the right palm and the nice change between them? Bagua is so much more than stances..this guy seems too stiff to even be able to do Bagua in a real fight..

    • @pgskills
      @pgskills 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@A_leXs I could tell you the reasons that I think this guy has good Bagua knowledge, mechanics, and skills, but I don't teach for free. As for your last two burps of nonsense, it sounds to me like you a) have a big belly that makes low stances a challenge (but you're ok with it as there are tons of fatties in internal martial arts) and b) don't know shit about fighting (since you obviously believe you can judge a person's fighting ability by watching them demo a form or an app).
      My suggestion? Try eating a salad.

      @@pgskills oh someone got offended, I see..it's ok, it happens when you don't know shit..those who do know what they're doing wouldn't even be bothered by that comment..but since you don't seem to "judge" someone as I do, please do tell me what's my problem and what I need to do :)

    I’m here for a similar reason as everyone else. Avatar, but it’s actually because after watching the show I thought it was cool that you could fight, you know non brutally.
