I'm from Abu Dhabi, UAE. I have Chrysler 2001 PP cruser, it's accetlaer suddenly out of working when I was driving and came down to the floor and not getting power to run. I put it on side of the road. Till that engine was started when I put switch off and try to start again it didn't. I checked 2 different macanics but they couldn't manage it to start. They are saying fuse are okay, petrol is there, but current it not coming to the plug which is connected to the engine. If anyone knows what and how should I fix it please contact me. princegee2013@gmail.com 00971554193976 call and WhatsApp
I bought my PT Cruiser Limited Edition new in 2004. Still going strong with 230,400 km in 2019. I love that thing!! Sooo comfy, so roomy. It’s been extremely reliable, too. Even set up a bed in it and drove cross country & back one year. Plan to keep it til it falls apart which, given its excellent mechanical history and the fact I maintain it as needed, will hopefully be many years from now. Can’t think of even one new vehicle on the road that I’d swap it for!
notformebeaky have you ever owned one? i turn sixteen next month and my dream car is a white pt cruiser convertible. i don’t care if people say they’re ugly, they’re cool to me. but yeah, it seems everyone who hasn’t owned a pt cruiser says they suck, and all the owners claim it’s the best car ever.
Nothing wrong with selling and reviewing used cars, we wouldn’t know about you if you were a dentist or a teacher 😊 My ex’s ugly mother had one of these, the car gets criticised by pretty much everyone but much loved and appreciated by the owners, Great review as always
About time someone highlighted the positives about the PT Cruiser. 👍👏🙏🏼 I am a proud owner of a special edition - had it since 2013. Have hardly had any issues with mine. Faced the overheating problem after five years, but got it sorted. All my friends and family love it! I'm a firm believer of looking after anything I have, so my PT's been well looked after. Hope it becomes a classic one day. Thanks for making the video. ✨😀
God bless the PT Cruiser if it ended up bringing us this channel! You are probably the most realistic and open minded car reviewer on the internet - appreciate your work and love watching you review the cars! Take care and warm regards all the way from South Africa 🇿🇦🏳️🌈
I have a 01, and I LOVE IT!!! I fell in love with it, when it 1st came out, but couldn’t afford it.😢 But I had 2nd Chance, and I JUMPED on it, and LOVED it ever since. The 1st owner didn’t take care of it, but since I’ve had it, it’s been a BLAST driving around Japan. There’s so MANY parts for it. Don’t know why people HATED it, but me, I want ANOTHER ONE!!!🥰🥰
My 2004 PT Cruiser is the Base model, with 2.4 and 5 Speed. It runs like a top! It currently has 97,000 miles. I changed the Timing Belt, and Water Pump one time. The body on these cars is built as solid as a tank. Doors, Locks, Windows, everything is rock solid. The car runs strong and smooth. PTs as quiet as you would expect from a much larger car. BTW: Chrysler PTs weigh 3,000 pounds! And the Cargo Space is great: You have a real truck!
My mum fell in love with them so we bought a basic 2001 model back in 2005. Today in 2019 still driving it, still going strong. Front wishbones aside it's been flawless.
I own 3 PTs, a 140 hp 2008 Touring from which I operate my business with no back seat, a 180 hp 2005 Limited Turbo which I store in my garage (this guy is right), and a 220hp 2004 Dream Series 4 GT Turbo (only 2000 were made) which I drive for pleasure. All have reworked suspensions (struts, shocks, control arms etc.) and drive excellently. I have no plans to drive anything else for the remainder of my life. I love the retro 40's vibe and the nerd factor, which I gladly embrace. Yes, I admit to having a severe case of PTSD (PT Surplus Disorder). The only medication for such a condition is yet even more PT Cruisers.
Thank you for your positive review of the PT a cruiser, I just bought my second one, the new cars now are not made as well as this vehicle, so I bought my second one, was lucky to find a 2005 GT model with the STR4 engine with only 54,000 original miles on it and full leather interior! The previous owner took loving care of it and it even has a tow bar and moonroof and is chromed out beautifully on the exterior, it also has a spoiler in rear. I plan on keeping mine up and keeping it, where I live, they are everywhere and they are very popular due to the comfort and unique look! As you said, who wants to look like everyone or everything else?
In 2020, I still love my 2008 Pt Cruiser and here, in Brazil, it is a piece of that American dream you talked about in the video . I love it, my family love it. It has become a legend, a classic out of the US, no doubt about it.
Great video! It's about time someone has the courage to defy the haters that usually have very little knowledge behind their hate. I bought one in 2006. We still have and love it! Will comment more later when I have more time.
I have a 2009 pt Cruiser. Runs great. Good on gas. Holds a lot with the seats down. Only had to change out the starter. Know someone with 200,000 miles. And someone on line 400,000 miles. Looks good . Retro look. And a lot of people here have them. Really like my car
Owner of a 2001 Classic PT Cruiser - 266Km on the clock, she's still strong, fast and still turning heads at 18. While they all have various issues (I have a secondary radiator fan installed due to overheating issues), it almost becomes a part of the charm of having one - I certainly gained a lot of in depth knowledge about what could be wrong with my car when she died on me (cylinder system/thrust bearing) the first time so the second (fuel pump) certainly didn't bother me overly. I'm not giving mine up and fully intend on putting her into car shows when she's all painted up and shiny. Collectors are already buying up these cars and putting them away and the second hand price is going up so... It pays to get one and care for it.
I got a 2004 basic 2.4L, bought it cheap with 200,000 km on it and did some engine work, had it for 10 years now and it’s at 300,000 km. Not the most mechanically reliable but still pretty decent. It has many, many strong points. The styling is different and cool, the body is built on a truck frame so works really good for the winter roads up here in the Canadian north. I have used this car as basically a minivan to haul lumber (8 ft 2 by 4’s and got the hatch closed), garbage, a love seat, you name it, it’s awesome. Yes the rear seats and the front passenger seat fold down but you also can very easily take out the rear seats, hence I fit a loveseat in there and I got the hatch closed! The power is very good for low end torque and highway passing too, gas mileage is decent and would be far better than a minivan or truck.
Great, great video! An honest review of the PT. I drive a 2008 2.4 automatic myself. And you explained my emotion with the car exceptionally well. YES, I know it's not a common sight. And YES, I know people will laugh. And YES, sometimes I do contemplate my life-choices. But those are exactly the reasons why I drive a PT in late 2019. Because it's ..... different... and fun. For people who don't want to take life too serious.
I liked this car when it first came out and I like it today even more. One of Chrysler's best recent efforts. Everything else on the road these days looks the same and boring, and has no room inside.
Rotten day in East Yorkshire but watching this PT video this was a real hoot! Really packed with insight and whimsical humour from a guy who really knows his motors. Keep up this great standard!
I have a 2001 PT Cruiser Limited that I bought used in 2001 with 11,000 miles on it. It now has 136,000 miles and it still runs great. No engine or transmission problems. The most major repair that I had was to change the A/C compressor in 2010. I repainted it last year and it looks like new! Regular maintenance and not driving it like a race car is the key. The one you're driving looks very well cared for as well. :-)
Service light lit up on the way home today on my 2005 PT. P0340. Camshaft sensor. Had ordered all the sensors from Rockauto 2 years ago. Took me 8 minutes to replace at almost no cost. I prefer my PT to our 2015 VW tiguan.
I'm from the US, I'm 19, and the only thing I've ever owned I loved my first one, which was a 2006. It was great. My new one had the over heating problem you mentioned problem was the radiator fan. I replaced it and haven't had a problem with it since. And I don't know if I just take them a bit sharper then most people, but turns and curvy roads are so much fun in this thing. So, all in all, I LOVE THESE CARS!!😍
I had a 2003 PT Cruiser and loved it. Sadly, it was totaled to avoid another driver on "do not drive while on this med", but it protected my son. It is still a great, stylish little go getter.
When I lived in the US and was in the process of moving home to Australia, I had sold the cars and rented a PT for 2 months. It delivered furniture to charity shops and cartons to various places. I drove it hard, doing about 3000 miles in 2 months. On the final journey to the airport, it swallowed all 7 suitcases and hand baggage. I used to think they were junk but I ended up very impressed with the PT as a daily driver and hauler.
I drove a rental PT on a road trip holiday from Vegas to the Grand Canyon, down to Phoenix and the over to San Diego and then LA. Best holiday ever and it was a great car for that. Could see everything being sat high up (something I wouldn’t have been able to do in a mustang) and I wasn’t in a rush.
I miss my PT Cruiser, so good in the snow and for moving things, it looks small but it holds a lot. It was very reliable .I just sold it because I didn't need two cars I still don't ,but I would love to have it back. Everytime I see one in the street, I get a big smile on my face and a Good feeling in my heart. Greetings from Denver Colorado
I promise you they’ll out perform a Focus in the corners any day, you clearly have never actually pushed one to it’s limits, you might be shocked. P.S. The early ‘01-‘05’s are considered the cool ones.
I've had mine for 15 years and its been great. The 2.4 Turbo engine makes for quite a difference compared to the NA, and the practicality is superb for a small fwd car. Better design space wise than most suvs in fact (be it for cargo and or people), and finding parts (at least in north america) is insanely easy. This is true for both straight replacement items as well as performance upgrades. For the prices they go for, its hard to beat a well kept first or second gen, and there was even a convertible for a few years that had its own unique appeal.
I bought one new in 2001 and loved it. I was a kid in the 1940s and it reminded me of many cars that were still around from the 30s. It also had a gangster appeal and I even put the magnetic bullet holes in that back lid. In those days PT owners would always wave at each other. My wife and I recently got the urge to get another so we found a 2005 with 73,000 miles on it. I am 6'4" and it is one of the easiest small cars to get in and out of; easier than our Chrysler Town and Country. As this video says it has a lot of legroom and headroom. It's solid and fun to drive. Not a long-distance car but great for around town and short trips. Cramped engine compartment makes some repair jobs like timing belt replacement difficult. Other than that we love this car and it's always fun to tool around in. There are a lot of PT owner clubs around, even in Japan. Look them up on TH-cam.
I'm a huge fan of these. Bought myself a 2006 model and never had a single issue. American Spec 2.4 Auto. Also don't forget there was a GT version with 230hp and a sub 7s 0-60 time.
Most people love it, `Great points is sparkles wicked when clean, got loads of neat option, can hold 2X4, easy to get into, smooth, metal hooks to strap things in firm seats that last, superheat, super air, rise up fast Seats that make fitting sinse and a sound system that sounds great. Buy 1, 2, 3 of them
Love my 2007 PT. Had to replace crankshaft and another sensor a few years ago but car runs like new. Love the look, has plenty of room and fun to drive.
I have always had a soft spot for PT Cruisers too. I am sick of boring cars that all look the same. It has always amazed me that Chrysler was brave enough to actually go ahead with the PT though.
I really enjoyed your review, which was informative and conveyed a feelgood factor for the PT Cruiser. Might just buy one to follow the wonderful diesel Voyager I had. You mention American cars almost apologetically ,but it is important to realise that the American cruising car has a different history and application , even today, from the European performance cars, which it seems have derived more from motor sport than ideals of comfort. This explains why my wife's BMW Convertible is a hard ride, while my Voyager took three couples to the races in such comfort we might have been on a train. I know which I prefer! But of course I am pleased that people think American cars are somehow inept, it keeps their price down for smart guys like me.
We had a PT got it new an 02 diesel we had the car for 4 years and we met lots of new friends with the PT owners club Loved that car and lots of great memories
So far the comments I'm getting are negative, apart from yours. I like them - they're not the best car in the world, but more interesting than a MK1 Focus
2004 PT turbo and I love it to this day. Still less than 100,000 on it. I am actually sad that it went out of production. I never heard a sole make fun of it. I still get compliments. Oh, it takes curves so smoothly.
I bought a PT several years ago - I loved the retro styling, it was even quite peppy on the motorway and the seating setup meant you could fold them up and store more in the rear than a small van. But the dashboard was always lit up like a Christmas tree and it handled like it was running 4 half inflated tyres on an ice covered road with 45* sideways incline during a tornado (while in reality it was just a flat, straight road in the middle of summer). I was honestly glad to see the back of it.
I had one too. Bought it new and kept it for about three years after having company cars to build up my no claims. It was a bit slow but was a nice drive. My kids loved it.
I live in Southern California and luckily, I took my Cadillac Eldorado from L.A. to Vegas and and back which I manage to survive with ease. Regardless with any autos, auto annual maintenance is key. The PT Cruiser gets tons of heat here in the States, but Its not a bad ride at all.
I own the last production year, the 2010 . It's been a great car. The retro styling was in response to the retro VW Beetle, and reminds me of the first car I ever owned, a '48 Dodge. It's a reliable transportation appliance when properly maintained, and easy to find in the parking lot.
Bought my 2.2 CRD Cruiser in 2012 and fell in love with it. Expected to keep it for 5 years. After 5 years I bought a second one! A 2.4 petrol convertible (2 door) and now I love both. Like the reviewer said, quirkly, different, reliable and, as far as I'm concerned, stylish. Horses for courses. Would love a Crossfire too.
I used to rent them regularly on my business travel for the first few years they were available, I thought they were fine. For the first year or so, people would come over and want to see it and say how cool it was. People really liked the retro style. But somehow the automotive writers hated them and made fun of them. I never thought they were that bad. Just another small car. But they get fairly good mileage and have plenty of room. Now they are so cheap, they could make a great first car for a kid. The 2.4 is fine.
I bought one in 2001 and drove it six years. It used a lot of fuel for a small car, but it was very heavy. Great road car and had lots of head and shoulder room. Never gave me a minutes problem and I liked the retro look.
In June 2018 I bought an '08 PT Cruiser. I loved it then, I like it now. The driver's seat is very uncomfortable, otherwise I don't see anything wrong with the car. I don't drive a lot (I'm 71), but I've found it to be dependable and a fun car. Why people say it looks like a hearse is beyond me. It doesn't look any more like a hearse than a Corvette! I live in California, USA.
This car had 62,500 miles on it when I bought it, and I've only put 4200 on it in 16 months. It will probably be my last car, the next vehicle will be a motorized wheelchair!
Years ago a mate of mine met a couple of young women in a nightclub, she drove us to the local Farnborough macdonalds in a chrysler lebaron convertible, it was quite funny at the time pulling into the drive through as American cars were rare around the area at the time, roughly 30 odd years ago
To correct this video. Americans did not hate the PT Cruiser. Quite the opposite, it was well loved and still is by many Americans. It was the automotive marketing and media who didn't want the PT cruiser and who eventually moved to cause its demise. The Media wanted the car sold under the Dodge badge and to have them implant a high output V6 in the car. Chrysler refused for some good and not so good reasons, so the media trashed the car in every venue of opinion over which they had control. It was both and evil and stupid move by the automotive media, who are very much disliked by auto enthusiast in America. Ironically, many other car companies took the same route as Chrysler did with the PT cruiser and still sell many cars under its basic platform today.... Cars praised by the Media... for their utilitarian abilities, a design concept which started with the PT cruiser. The PT cruiser is a Station Wagon, a VAN, and a Car all rolled up into one vehicle, which is why it was so well loved by its owners. When Chrysler released the initial turbo for the Touring and Limited models, the media set its hair on fire, because it didn't produce whopping wheel hopping, tire burning horsepower. What the media in their stupidity didn't realize is that the 180hp turbo version of the 2.4L, output 210ft/lbs of torque, some 45 ft/lbs more than the NA 2.4L a 30% torque boost. This was a perfect match to the Touring and Limited versions which were people and stuff haulers as well as towing machines... The all knowing media ... missed that point ... or just ignored it.... When your dumb its difficult to tell the source... The media wanted a V6, and they were going to trash the car until they got one... that was never going to happen. The GT acquired the high output turbo which produced very respectable performance numbers in its day, with many hopped up to 300 hp with little modification. But the media was not happy, it wanted a V6 and a Dodge version so it pooed all over the HO turbo, even though it Consider this, the Ford Mustang in 2005 turned the !/4 mile in 6.8 seconds.... So did the PT Cruiser GT.... Further, the car handles very well for a boxy upright, sedan, reminiscent of the earlier sedans customized in the 1950s, 60s and 70s. I have owned 3 and working on my 4th. I like the Manual transmissions the best, but they are getting harder to find. Yes they have their quirks, but they are very solid vehicles, with very good reliability if maintained.
Nice piece. I had a PT Cruiser when they first came out. I was attracted to the vehicle because it was something different. Trouble free motoring, comfortable, lots of room & good family vehicle.
My family used the three cruisers we have owned for everything with very little problems other than routine maint. All have been 5 sp which are great fun!!
Hired a ragtop version in the states yonks ago , er indoors loved it , bought a tin top on return , had it fer 12 years , great car , it not a racing car so don’t ruddy drive it like one , it’s all about smiles per gallon 😀
I got a new Pt cruiser in 2008. I still own that car and drive it daily. It's only had regular maintenance and going on 200,000 miles. I went and bought a brand new Cruze with 0 miles and it stayed in the service department. Needless to say I traded it in on a Corvette and decided my daily driver was just fine. Only creepy people like me can see the cool factor in them, because they definitely rock that antique hearse vibe. You can argue all you want about it being ugly, but Chrysler knocked the antique retro look out the park. Overall mine is an excellent car and we have owned nearly 300 different types of vehicles. lol
I agree with you. You will find the most unloved stuff often becomes the most collectable. I own a 1970 Citroen DS. I know of a guy here in South Africa who bought two DS's in the late 1980s for the equivalent of around 80p! Have a look what DS's are worth now...the PT Cruiser will go the same way.
Hahaha One was a technical marvel and was widely considered one of the most beautiful cars ever made, even in it's day. One wasn't. They have that in common.
I bought my 2001 PT Cruiser limited new and still own it. It's been the most reliable, inexpensive, and completely functional vehicle. Starts up without any issues and is dependable. Frigid winters and torrid summers have not been a problem. I have no complaints and have historically replaced parts as they wear out. Motor, transmission are all original including belts and hoses. Very reliable transportation. I hope this continues!
We have had many over the years. Bought our first new one in 2002, another in 2004. Then had several as second cars. 3 convertibles to date too. Great family car, loved the styling. Also had a Chrysler Prowler replica, made by Fiero. Only 7 made, this was as close to the original in styling as it got. A wonderful time on our lives.
Had one as a company car, yes a company car. Our American CEO at the time did the deal. Had a 2.2crd 2003. Awful gearbox, notchy and vague but always went in gear. Ended up doing 136,000miles in 3 years. Nothing went wrong in the whole time I had it. Also it was comfy on the motorway, nice seat fitted armrest and comfy driving position. The ride was all very good and it handled pretty well. The best bit was the 2.2 Merc diesel, superb. It also went like stink. So when we were told we were getting these I was rather sceptical. The more time I had the car the more I liked it. It was certainly the most surprising company car I ever had and more reliable than the following two VW Passat we changed to.
I am a gigantic car guy and drives my Italian exotic regularly. I appreciate the PT cruiser for what it is. They were affordable, useful and relatively reliable. And they took a daring chance. People say that cars all look the same today and are boring. You can’t have it both ways. If companies take a risk like this, appreciate the risk. These things will have their day in 10 years. Guaranteed. Maybe not collector cars but people will start to appreciate them again. Much like the Volvo 240.
Nice review! This has to be cleanest PT cruiser... people in my area just pick these up (or neons) for dirt cheap and run them to the ground. Great to see one that's actaully well cared for.
I have owned a Toyota Corolla before(boring) I currently own a 2006 PT Cruiser. Everything he said is true. I get what he was saying about the overheating adventure. Two days ago on the way to the movies my PT started to putter. We all were laughing about it seeing if we were going to make it back to the house in time to switch cars.(we did) The next day I hooked up my diagnostic tool and it was all being caused by a faulty camshaft sensor ($40) I ordered the part and it took all of 10 min to swap it out. Good as new! If you take care of any car it will last. Great review!
Alexander, same here with owning the Corolla. I actually owned 2. I saw the PT, found a rental, drove it, loved it and out I went to get my own. That was 2004. Turbo 2.8 liter, electric blue, moon roof and I still have it and love it. It's about 9,000 miles from hitting 100,000.
Never lost money on a pt. Always got plenty of calls on them. One thing I did.notice was the people buying them were very informed and knew all about there flaws
I have a 54 plate 2 litre petrol PT and have had it now about 14 years and it has had it's issues..It has started costing me money now, especially over the last 2 years or so but I love to drive it for what it is as I am into the Rock 'n' Roll,Rockabilly scene and music so its 40's 50's retro look appeals to me..You are right though there are not that many around now, certainly not around where I live so I can only assume many have ended up being scrapped..Mine has only covered around 73,000 miles, had the cam belt replced and is regurlarly having the front bushes, track rods etc done and the MOT is due in the next few days but as I say bearing in mind what I have spent on it I am hoping it won't need anything if anything doing to get it through...They are so so cheap to buy now so if you fancy one, treat yourself,if you can find a decent one...There has never been a better time to buy one !!
A good review. I have always rather liked the PT. Extremely practical and quirky with it. As you say, the engines were not very strong but if you maintain them, they ought to be OK. We have a lot of them in New Zealand. Mostly second hand Japanese imports. A fun practical retro car.
Dude, you cracked me up! Your humor is TOPS! I am also a PT Cruiser fan (and owner). I own a 2008 Limited, turbo. Mine is fun to drive, and I also dig the thumbs up I get from my friends. It's super roomy, so everybody seems to want to pile into my car whenever we go somewhere. I have had no significant problems with my car (although I needed a new battery cable and they don't make them anymore. So I had to wait for it to be shipped from Texas to 3 states over where I live in Georgia.), and my family considers it reliable enough to take us on any vacation. Again, thanks for the good review, and keep making videos. It's a little weird seeing you drive on the "wrong side" of the car, but it's entertaining.
i bought a PT cruiser a few months ago, i been after one for 15 years, managed to get a 2.2 CRD limited just hit 100k on the clock, love driving the car love the style of it,
Well done! I had a 2002 PT Cruiser with a manual in Prowler purple. That was my daily driver for almost 20 years. I had no problems what so ever with the engine and the manual really made the most of the engine. I also used an additive called Prolong in my engine with each oil change. Mine had a 2.0 liter 150 HP engine and with a Tornado Air unit I installed I got 30 MPG. I really loved that thing and it had amazing cargo room. Pull out the 2 back seats and you basically have a covered truck. I moved out of my old apartment with it and never needed to rent a moving truck. After thinking about it, I did have it for a long time so I can't be too critical about the maintenance issues I had. I had plans to do a complete resto mod to it but right now, with a family, it was not practical and I ended up donating it to charity and buying a Toyota for its reliability. I did not get any Toyota but a C-HR which in many ways I feel is a modern car that carries over the unique crossover vibe and character the PT Cruiser had. Things to look out for and be ready to repair in an older manual PT Cruiser after very long use are, (1) the motor mounts, (2) the car's main computer (3) the radiator and (4) the transmission, specifically the clutch assembly because it comes in one big unit and can't be taken apart. Oh yeah, my factory radio went out after about 5-6 years. Also make sure you go so someone who actually knows the car if you take it to someone to work on it. I do wish I had the money and space to store it and give my old PT Cruiser a new life. As time goes on I know the PT Cruiser along with my old Honda CRX are going to be 2 cars I will continue to miss. Strangely my Toyota C-HR is literally like a cross between my old CRX and PT Cruiser. Go figure.
@@HighPeakAutos Similar theme I wrote up my £50 quid Matiz up tonight as I want to try and have £149 ish margin than scrap it... here's the WOEFUL advert..... HPi Clear - PX To Clear - Short MOT 09/2019 - Does Drive OK - Sold Priced to Sell - 2 Keys - What To Like ( Avoid The Bus When Raining ); What To Not Like ( Driving This When Could Be In The Sun ). Speedo is Inoperable but looking at VOSA MOT history was running until 2018 MOT date fine so likely done 45,000 to 46,000 Miles, showing 44,800 Miles and being in-op or stuck it also doesn't register speed so have a GPS app open on a smart phone. Wheel bearing kind of noise, starts on hand turn and 2 immobilised keys. It isn't that bad, it isn't that good, a motor trader would just use and dump this car as a dumper, she starts , runs , drives.
I lived and worked in the US in the early part of this century and got to drive many different American cars including an early PT. My American colleagues thought it was awful but like you, I found it great fun, the truth is that few American cars are "agile" in the sense that we expect in Europe but they are well suited to their "home" conditions where "bendy roads" are rare :)
my pleasure.. the only issue is.. like you I think these cars are different. not just the same Hyundai corolla Mazda etc but a genuinely eccentric querky mobile.
I'm in the rust belt and ran 12 years and 200 thousand miles in mine before passing it on to my aunt and getting myself a 2020 Camry. I went to hell and back many times with my 2007 PT Cruiser Limited edition. If she could speak, she would tell many a story! I think the Cruiser is more appropriate for Europe. Having lived in Germany for the year, I think the Cruiser does better in the small towns and byways of Europe than it does here. It was the car everyone loved to hate; which is why I loved it. It had character and it was the first truly postmodern car. I also knew someone that knew the engineer that created the model, since I live near Auburn Hills, MI.
My stepdad had one for a few years. He quite liked it for his IT job since it can swallow a tremendous amount of equipment and wasn't bad on gas. Much better than the SUV alternatives anyway.
I loved the styling when they came out - many years ago my requirement for a roof to come off meant that I had the most peculiar version!! No balance in the looks, cheap interior. Lovely metallic berry red. Looked peculiar, couldn’t see out the back - loved it!! And I still love the styling. Take out the rear seats as per U.S. and great very cheap dog car!!
Great video. Looking at a 2003 GT with all maintenance records for $2500 US 115,000 miles. New water pump and timing belt. That motor is very similar to the 4G63 block that was boosted in the Eagle Talons, Mitsubishi Eclipses, and the Plymouth Laser. No problems with the head gasket. Also looking at a 2002 PT Limited 2.4 with 62,000 original miles for $2300.
Good review. My PT Cruiser turbo is close to 200,000 miles it's a 2003. I like it better than my Jeep because it's low to the ground. IF you're picking up something heavy, it's easier to pull it up into the car. The Cruiser holds so much inside- car -lumber, garden supplies, etcetera. I can even carry 8 foot salvaged doors. I keep up the maintenance because it's worth it. You have a good clear view from all sides. The only thing I don't like is that it makes wide turns. The air conditioner is great and mine is really fast because it's Turbo. It's very comfortable also. P.S. I'm an American in San Antonio, Texas.
YES!! Love my Cruisers!! !! Bought the first one in 2002. Patriot Blue Limited. It went nicely for 247,000 miles until the tranny went south. Present PT is a light blue 2007 Signature model with 167K on it. NO ENGINE ISSUES on either of these EVER. Love the styling and it hauls A LOT of Band gear, DRUMS even, Great MPG.s too. (Mercedes Benz engineering)
You guys in England are just flat out weird in your automobile preferences,if for some reason I was to move over their,a PT Cruiser would be the type of car I'd be wanting to find. I've driven one of these quite a bit and I can't find any faults with it. It is a very good reliable car.
we got an 06 for my sons first car- in three years hes needed only some front end work and morotor monts and a thermostat- not real fast or graet handling but I want him to keep it under control and drive wisely - my 98 integra is far quicker and waaaay more fun but the only issue with pt cruiser is the cramped engine bay
I loved my PT GT Cruiser 2005 when I had it, I was so incredibly fast, I loved the space it offerd, loved the style, I loved how the front seats went all the way back to sleep in it, and I loved how the front passenger side seat went all the way forward to carry lumber and stuff. My only problem with the turbo version, acually 2 problems 1. Gas milage was bad in teh turbo, id get like 9 miles a gallon when I had fun accelerating in it, and it was top heavy so that u had to have good tires on it at all times or else if it rained and u had bad tires it would slide all over the road. I love the PT
This video definitely divides opinions for sure. I personally think you are spot on with your view that this will one day become a collectable car and will make a sensible future investment. Take the Austin Allegro, for instance ( the butt of all jokes ) a good example can now fetch stupid amounts of money. Great and honest review as per bloody normal Matt. 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Have a 2002 Limited since new. Been a good car and now has 69K on the clock. Replaced the water pump, timing belt, motor mounts, wheel bearings, tie rods, and fixed a leak in the AC with some Freon with an additive that plugged the leak. I think it still has the original brakes. Only gets around 19 mpg around town.
Our Dutch neighbour around 4 doors up from us used to have a dark red chrysler pt cruiser for several years, then swapped it for a jeep renegade when they came out.
I bought a PT cruiser 10 years and I am still driving it. Great car! Very comfortable and roomy. I love my PT Cruiser.

Amazing car…💪
Scotty Kilmer has something to say about this🥴
...and its more Mexican than American.
@@kiwi-m2t At least the PT has a real automatic gearbox not a CVT like all the new cars out now days
notformebeaky ok thats nice but nobody cares
@notformebeaky haha good joke!
notformebeaky Does it get you from Point A to Point B? Yeah so lmao stfu
Thanks! This video made me smile, as I always do when I see a PT Cruiser on the road. I love their quirkiness--not just another econo box.
Exactly! I'm not suggesting they're great cars, but I like their individuality
With the shape, it made me think of old Hollywood films and gangsters shooting through the window.
Haha yeah exactly 1920's-30's style
Chris R yess i love it
Amazed there isn’t a body kit or someone has a hack to make it look like a 40’s or 50’s Buick.
that’s why i love mine so much!!
"Ganster" love it!
Nothing wrong with selling and reviewing used cars, we wouldn’t know about you if you were a dentist or a teacher 😊 My ex’s ugly mother had one of these, the car gets criticised by pretty much everyone but much loved and appreciated by the owners,
Great review as always
Haha good point! Thanks for watching
Love it
About time someone highlighted the positives about the PT Cruiser. ✨😀
We have 10 of these and they are the most reliable cars we've ever owned, love these cars!
Sorry to hear that
...and only ever owned 10 PT’s, no wonder they are your most reliable car.
How many did you own at one time?
God bless the PT Cruiser if it ended up bringing us this channel! You are probably the most realistic and open minded car reviewer on the internet - appreciate your work and love watching you review the cars! Take care and warm regards all the way from South Africa 🇿🇦🏳️🌈
Thanks for watching!
I have a 01, and I LOVE IT!!! I fell in love with it, when it 1st came out, but couldn’t afford it.😢
But I had 2nd Chance, and I JUMPED on it, and LOVED it ever since. The 1st owner didn’t take care of it, but since I’ve had it, it’s been a BLAST driving around Japan. There’s so MANY parts for it. Don’t know why people HATED it, but me, I want ANOTHER ONE!!!🥰🥰
Thanks for getting in touch. :)
There’s something so therapeutic about your vids regardless of what car you review. Love your honesty and dry wit. Keep up the good work 🤙
Thank you! Cheers for watching :)
Hahaha thank you for your comments! Nice collection!
That’s right
@Daniel Cohn I had a 2008 burgandey red Pt crusier I called her Patrica lol I miss that car.
surprised it hasn't been stolen in Brazil , we hear in USA Brazil is like an open air prison where almost everyone is a criminal lol
Great video! It's about time someone has the courage to defy the haters that usually have very little knowledge behind their hate. I bought one in 2006. We still have and love it! Will comment more later when I have more time.
Mike Fruge Glad to hear it!
I totally agree :)
Met a girl while visiting long beach a few years ago. And got a b job in her PT cruiser .
So I am very fond of it, always smiling when I see one
I liked this car when it first came out and I like it today even more. One of Chrysler's best recent efforts. Everything else on the road these days looks the same and boring, and has no room inside.
@Carlavagnen 13 Me too. And look at what Chrysler has done since...The only worthwhile vehicle is the van, which they no longer make.
Rotten day in East Yorkshire but watching this PT video this was a real hoot! Really packed with insight and whimsical humour from a guy who really knows his motors. Keep up this great standard!
Thanks for watching :)
Mark Handler Glad to hear it. I think you’re right
Service light lit up on the way home today on my 2005 PT.
Thanks for watching :)
I had a 2003 PT Cruiser and loved it. Sadly, it was totaled to avoid another driver on "do not drive while on this med", but it protected my son. It is still a great, stylish little go getter.
Rhoda English it’s PT loser
Everytime I see one in the street,
I get a big smile on my face and a
Good feeling in my heart.
Greetings from Denver Colorado
I promise you they’ll out perform a Focus in the corners any day, you clearly have never actually pushed one to it’s limits, you might be shocked. P.S. The early ‘01-‘05’s are considered the cool ones.
Hi Matt, like your Y.T. vids. on repairing P.T. Cruisers.
@@blueplasma5589 Thanks, I appreciate hearing that.(-:
I've had mine for 15 years and its been great. The 2.4 Turbo engine makes for quite a difference compared to the NA, and the practicality is superb for a small fwd car. Better design space wise than most suvs in fact (be it for cargo and or people), and finding parts (at least in north america) is insanely easy. This is true for both straight replacement items as well as performance upgrades. For the prices they go for, its hard to beat a well kept first or second gen, and there was even a convertible for a few years that had its own unique appeal.
I agree!
I like them. I think they'll become future classics because there wont be many of them left in a few years time
I'm a huge fan of these.
Buy 1, 2, 3 of them
I just got a 2002 PT Crusier and I love it runs great in great shape Will not trade it for any other car PT Cruiser love it
I’ve had a couple of these petrol and diesel. They never went wrong
You love them or hate them
I agree!
We had a PT got it new an 02 diesel we had the car for 4 years and we met lots of new friends with the PT owners club
Loved that car and lots of great memories
So far the comments I'm getting are negative, apart from yours. I like them - they're not the best car in the world, but more interesting than a MK1 Focus
I was quite a fan of these. Always reminded me of those ZZ Top videos from the 80s 👍🏻
I like the quirkiness of them
And that's exactly why I got one.
I was pleasantly surprised to see this ! Always wanted one and was always put off by everyone except the owners ,cheers. I'm off for a run in me Z.3.
Thanks for watching :)
I do quite like the convertible model too
I used to rent them regularly on my business travel for the first few years they were available, I thought they were fine.
I agree! I don't think they're as bad as people make out
I bought one in 2001 and drove it six years. It used a lot of fuel for a small car, but it was very heavy. Great road car and had lots of head and shoulder room. Never gave me a minutes problem and I liked the retro look.
Pleased to hear it :)
Bought my 2002 new and still driving it! I enjoy my cruiser!
I'm thinking on a 2002 but AC isn't working. Does the belt have to run AC and everything or can you just freeon
@@debanderson9155 DO NOT!
Just bought a perfect old 1985 chrysler lebaron convertable with a talking computer. Now that's a classic that needs to be driving around London!
My parents had a 92 LeBaron Convertible for a very short period. They hated it
Years ago a mate of mine met a couple of young women in a nightclub, she drove us to the local Farnborough macdonalds in a chrysler lebaron convertible, it was quite funny at the time pulling into the drive through as American cars were rare around the area at the time, roughly 30 odd years ago
But the media was not happy, it wanted a V6 and a Dodge version so it pooed all over the HO turbo, even though it
Consider this, the Ford Mustang in 2005 turned the !/4 mile in 6.8 seconds....
I just recently got myself a cruiser (2005) with 127,000 miles on it. I love it! Slot of leg room
Nice piece. I had a PT Cruiser when they first came out. I was attracted to the vehicle because it was something different. Trouble free motoring, comfortable, lots of room & good family vehicle.
Thanks for watching :)
Overall mine is an excellent car and we have owned nearly 300 different types of vehicles. lol
Heather Underwood Wow! Over 300 cars!
@@HighPeakAutos Yes, my dad is a mechanic and my hubby worked at Pull a Part for 8 years. lol We have connections to get about anything.
You're right, the DS is a good comparison actually. They're now worth a lot of money and at the time they were very undesirable
At last, a man that you WOULD buy a used car from...
Love your channel 🙂
Thank you!
Never been a huge fan of these cars, however you did a good video/review of it
I'm not saying its the best car in the world but I do like its quirkiness
A quirky car for sure Matt ... but there are those that love 'em!!
Another very enjoyable 10 minutes :)
Cheers
Mike
Mike Waldt Thanks Mike!
I agree
Nice review! This has to be cleanest PT cruiser... people in my area just pick these up (or neons) for dirt cheap and run them to the ground. Great to see one that's actaully well cared for.
You're right, this one has been loved
I agree!
I have a 2.2 diesel and still love it,Trouble free motoring so far and up to 134k miles 👍
Good stuff
A good review. I have always rather liked the PT. Extremely practical and quirky with it. As you say, the engines were not very strong but if you maintain them, they ought to be OK.
We have a lot of them in New Zealand. Mostly second hand Japanese imports. A fun practical retro car.
I’m a PT Cruiser.
And you should buy me, I’m a great reliable car! Just hated because of my looks.
Don’t judge a PT Cruiser by its exterior.
Chrysler PT Cruiser PT loser
Haha thanks for watching and thanks for the feedback :)
i bought a PT cruiser a few months ago, i been after one for 15 years, managed to get a 2.2 CRD limited just hit 100k on the clock, love driving the car love the style of it,
Good stuff :)
Go figure.
Great to hear an owners perspective. I really like the C-HR, I will do a vid with one of those when I get the chance. Thanks for watching!
lol. I nearly bought one of these out of shear desperation for not wanting to use the bus. The bus won.
Hahaha
Haha I've written many an ad like that in my short time at this job
Are you a sheep farmer Amos?
BS, every car is better than taking a bus.
WoW, 3
You are the best salesman who ever lived ...you sold me on a Nice, mint used 2005 PT Cruiser, one of the cars with the worst reputations :-)
Max Power Haha Thanks!
Another cracking review ,these are a future classic for "rodding" etc' buy a mint one and garage it
This guy loves to hear himself talk, I’ve a 2006 and absolutely love it. Fun to drive, peppy and dependable
Kid Rocknroller How could I possibly film a review without me talking? Would you rather I’d written down my thoughts instead? 😂
one of the best most honest vehicle reviews ive seen well done a car of character and will be highly valuable in the future
Thanks for watching :)
my pleasure.. the only issue is.. like you I think these cars are different. not just the same Hyundai corolla Mazda etc but a genuinely eccentric querky mobile.
It went nicely for 247,000 miles until
the tranny went south. Present PT is a light blue 2007 Signature model with 167K on it. NO ENGINE ISSUES on either
of these EVER.
Most British people are reserved in the car purchases. People choose cars that are known and have good reputations - the VW Golf and Ford Focus etc.
Best car / Truck ever built.....
I have a 2007 GT Turbo convertible in pastel yellow. 114K miles and still going strong. To this day I get compliments on its color and uniqueness.
we got an 06 for my sons first car- in three years hes needed only some front end work and morotor monts and a thermostat- not real fast or graet handling but I want him to keep it under control and drive wisely - my 98 integra is far quicker and waaaay more fun but the only issue with pt cruiser is the cramped engine bay
213 k miles and still loving it
!not many affordable car out there that look like old gassers
Haha I agree! There are lots of examples of joke cars that are now collectable
