Upwork is great for doing research. It's a good way to see what potential clients are looking for.

You are amazing. Straight to the point. Sending proposals is a bit time consuming but not that much. Getting an answer from a client takes forever.

Thanks, Erin. Another seasoned freelancer also advised the same about Upwork. It seems to be the marketplace for all things freelancing and pretty much every new freelancer's first stopover on their career journey.

I had several clients got hired by several VA agencies on Linked In... Upwork zero. I have to agree with Erin on here... I just like what she's says on other videos I am a great proponent of the Linked In platform when it comes to serious business, long term connections and career stabiity... Hi Erin, thanks for another amazingly infromative video! I want to start advertising my services but I have a day job (which is on my LinkedIn) and want to keep my VA career separate until I'm ready to transition into it full time. What would you recommend for someone like me as I'm not sure where I can advertise my services if not places like Upwork (or basically anywhere separate from LinkedIn)?

So, I'm late to the party! I just took Upwork seriously this year and have found myself working all hours of the day and waiting forever to be paid less the 20% of what I made - which is already at the minimum. :) I am going to lookup your LInkedIn video now that I ahve a few clients maybe that will help. I have shyed away form LinkedIn previously but if I really want to be a VA I cant really do it at $12 an hour paid in 14 days

Let me know what you think about linkedin! It can take a little longer to find clients but it’s sooo worth it in the long run.

Hi Erin: what is Upwork really good for (Sidehustle?) if your trying to find work online or becoming a freelancer or a VA (Virtual Assistance).
Upwork is insanely competitive - but don't let me deter you from starting on the platform. If you do, though, track how much time you're spending pitching clients and track the outcomes (did you land the job, did you not, etc). If you end up spending more time pitching than it's worth, then I recommend other avenues.
I want to start my own VA business for many reasons but the main one is finding work right now in my country is really difficult especially because of the pandemic.

Hey Erin, what's the best way to optimize my LinkedIn profile while I'm currently working for a company (with coworkers viewing my profile) and polish my account to attract future potential clients as I start to shift away from my current job?
Great Q (and a common one at that)! If you can (without being terminated), add VA work to your experience section. That way, you’re including VA skills, but they’re not on the header of your profile. Having said that, you may want to consider opening an alternative VA-centered account on another platform where you feel that your ideal clients are on - could be twitter, FB, IG, etc

Thank you for this video. Upwork charges now per connect, like 90 cents per job proposal. I'm spending more time on LinkedIn now, but I'm a bit lost. I want to work as a VA since I had back-office experience. I just don't know how to pitch my services and who do I pitch it to.
Hi Mike, GOOD to know about Upwork's new connection charge - did that just roll out?? Seems crazy to ask the freelance to pay per pitch! Love your comment though about LI, it's definitely a more longterm strategy. In a nutshell, I think the first step of setting up a successful LI funnel is by becoming an active (daily) user. Like any social media platform, the more you comment on other's posts and share your own expertise, the more traffic you'll drive to your profile. I have a free course for true beginners on LI, it may be a little *too* beginner for your needs as it begins with setting your profile up, but I do touch upon connections. www.udemy.com/linkedin-for-freelancers/ If you like that one, I have another course on the do's and don'ts of pitching too (but see if you like the free content first)! Hope it helps.
Turns out I have more to add: I also recommend joining VA specific groups on LI and FB (groups like the Virtual Savvy on FB are particularly large and handy). Introducing yourself and your marketable skills is a good first step. Often times, FT VA's will post in those groups looking to offload some work to subcontracts. Getting your feet wet with another VA may be a good first step in your journey!
@@ErinBooth the main problem i have is i don't know how to sell myself. i may not have the technical know-how where other VA may excel, but I do have experience. im also passionate about helping people succeed.
@@lazytradermike2845 There's no quick way sell your services. It starts with creating a social media presence, whether that's on LinkedIn, FB, etc that clearly articulates your value proposition. IE, who is your target audience and how you can help solve their problems. Then, you need to position yourself as a known expert within your niche. Share relevant tips, content etc that help solve your audience's problem. Connect with your target audience but don't immediately pitch them. I talk a lot about this in my Udemy course. However, I recommend that you take time to first learn more about marketing services as a freelancer. Free content shared by Amy Portfield and Marie Forleo are good places to start.
