Dug up this album recently. Remember playing it incessantly in my younger days. Tremendous. I hope kids today can discover this. Blows away pretty much anything out there today.
I don't think I need to say it but I'll say it again. The trail of dead's Source Tags and Codes is one of the best rock album's ever and probably my favorite album of all time. The sound these guy have on this album and the rest of their work is original and it was that genuine ferocity yet serene glow of their music that kept me listening.
i will have to agree with you...when i heard another morning stoner i was about 16...the song and it changed my life. it defined my personal style, i knew what my music taste was how it formed me...it also was the song that defined rock music...
i think this is the best live performance i've seen by these guys on youtube. i'd fucking kill to have seen this incarnation of the trail live. they're nowhere even approaching this good anymore
I saw them live back in 2002/2003 (from memory) when they opened for Mogwai in Sydney. It was absolutely epic, they were infinitely better than this video portrays and completely blew Mogwai off the stage (which is saying something, Mogwai were still amazing and are probably my favourite band). I had never heard of TOD before this concert and I remember three things standing out: 1) The band members kept swapping instruments between songs, particularly Keely and Reece 2) They trashed the stage and their instruments at the completion of their set, including throwing the drum kit into the audience! 3) They played the set like it was their last one on Earth. I don't remember ever seeing a band put that much into a performance. They literally left everything 'on the field'. I immediately went out to the foyer after their set and bought the album and one of every t-shirt they had for sale. Been an ardent fan ever since.
@JungleBhoy1975 yeah man , I STILL can't enough of this album. Aesthetically , the trail of dead are my favorite band for several reasons : their guitar work , lyrics , the fact that their into ancient civilizations , conrad being an exceptional artist and their band name of course :)
Unreal these guys to my mind were the best band in the world for a fair period and handled it much better than Radiohead. One of my fondest memories is a mysapce message from Conrad after I asked the band to play at our wedding, if I could have come up with 15k would have being the best purchase I have ever made. Had to settle to for it was there that I saw you and invocation as songs during our ceremony. Hoping to see these boys live before too long certainly on my bucket list!
@pistolpimp36 Spot on man, like Sunday morning stoned one minute then Friday night on acid the next. An amazing infusion of the chilled and the madness. A true masterpiece.
its pure about doing their own stuff and not giving a shit about current trends and giving in to standard album conce^pts, they just dont get the promo for that. conrad has his moments that his voice isnt great but most of the time he sings awesome and very powerful... best band around fy
its better when they are not massive, just a few like us could enjoy them, because when they start being popular and comercial (in the knowledge of masses) they lost kind of subjective sense

Source tags and codes is the one album I would bring to a deserted island and listen to over and over and never get tired.

Reminds of when I say them live in Orlando.

If they were massive we wouldn't feel so privaliged as fans who are fortunate enough to know this band. Sweet guitar tone as well:))))))

A true masterpiece.

Will always love them!
Awesome.

"You were fair and fey as the sun that evil day"

So underrated!!!
you know, and his voice sounds to me what it sounds like on the cd
fuc*ing superb
I go seriously crazy with that 3:13 drums... man.
Not sure about this live version. but my favorite TOD song none the less
Jay is a beast behind the kit...
epic

Ha, HA!!! All these people criticising the singing?? You can bet they can't hear themselves amongst that wall of noise, PA's would be useless!!
And the background vocals are even worse! 3:25
it's a fantastic tune, but wow, this dude can't pull it off live. better stick with the album version.
