- Dion Romano (GHD’24) came to Georgetown from the Philippines to pursue a master’s in global human development (GHD). Through the program, Romano consulted with the World Bank inspection panel and served as the GHD’s social justice representative.
When Romano was pursuing master’s programs, he was drawn to GHD’s holistic, person-centered view, which sees expanding people’s choices, rather than measures like economic output, as the main goal of development. Additionally, GHD provided a number of unique, hands-on experiences that helped Romano build his practical skills. For example, in his summer internship with the Accountability Counsel, an NGO that represents local communities impacted by development bank projects, Romano traveled to Bangkok, Thailand and Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam.
“I think these experiences are a testament to what Professor Radelet mentioned GHD to be, which is a master’s program that allows students to tackle real-world development issues, and I think I was able, and am able, to experience those practical experiences in my journey at GHD,” Romano says.
