  • While on our trip to South Africa, we saw some of the world’s most incredible wildlife in Kruger National Park and Sabie Game Reserve. Nearly a five hour drive from Johannesburg, this wildlife area has some unique and awe inspiring nature unlike any we have seen before.
Our first African safari game drive experience was a night safari at Sabie Game Reserve. This private reserve was a great way to get a taste of the incredible nature in the area. We also got to see a Rhinoceros, one of the big five animals to see on an African safari-the others include lions, leopards, African bush elephants, and African elephants. With the incredible sunset, a sundowner-a drink to enjoy during sunset-and a dazzling night sky, we couldn’t have asked for a better way to start our trip. Book just a tour below, but you can also stay overnight at the Sabi reserve if you want to splurge!
We started again bright and early for a day safari at Kruger National Park. We had an experienced guide, which we highly recommend for the first time at Kruger. We were able to see the rest of the Big Five with the help of our guide, and got to see some unique animals that weren’t on our radar, including some adorable, rare African dogs! We felt like we were living out a childhood dream of ours being able to see these incredible animals in their natural habitat.
Our final safari was a self-guided trip. One unique aspect of going on safari in Kruger national park is that you are permitted to self drive through the park. We enjoyed our day starting off with some incredible hippos in the water, followed by lots of birds, monkeys, zebras, giraffes, and impala. It was such a special experience to take our time driving around the park and trying to find what we could on our own. Be careful to make sure you stay inside your vehicle along the drive, and make sure you budget enough time to explore as much of the park as you can.
We had an unforgettable time while exploring this area, and couldn’t believe how many animals we saw and how breathtaking the scenery was. We highly recommend taking this incredible trip yourself someday!

Was this your first time driving on the other side?? Was it difficult?

Yes! It felt so weird and unnatural and took some getting used to. It makes you really think about driving instead of it being just muscle memory! After a few days I think I finally got the hang of it!
