I was about 19/20 when Go fishing came out. and John Wilson's passion was what really solidified my love of the sport, and all these years later after a very long absence, Graham has done the same and renewed my interest as I love his videos the way I used to love the Go fishing series all those years ago.

I caught my first 4 foot shark (smoothound) on a slug back in 1979 while fishing for eels in Sheppey Kent, not sure how it didn't bite through my line back then, I've never caught another even using usual sea baits, I didn't unhook it, I just cut the line close to its mouth and pushed it back in the sea, at 12 years old i was fishing with my homemade bamboo rod originally from the center of a carpet my parents had delivered, also was using a Winfield fixspool from Woolworths where I used to get most of my fishing gear as a kid, I wish we had camera phones back then.

I used to "slug hunt" in my gardens by torchlight every night to protect our foodstuffs we were growing, never use pellets as they will kill any birds or hedgepigs unfortunate to eat them, also never use salt, as salt is fatal to birds. I used to flush them down the loo,, anyhow one night the monsters were out, I picked up two of the biggest critters I have ever seen, one about 5 inches long the other about six,, they were as fatter than broom handles, never tried them as bait for Chubb, but have used them with some success on carp. There again Carp will eat just about anything.

As usual you are very entertaining even if its not about fishing. Let us know when you will be using the slugs for a fishing trip. I also thought instead of just letting your new flower pot weights go to the bottom to stay that you could put a piece of hangar into the side of the concrete pot to be rigged like it was one of the corks you have used that with a small jerk from the fish the line would pull free from the potted weights and the fish would swim away and besides catching the fish you could bring the weight back up to the boat each time by using some stronger line and continue to reuse them. I can't think of what you called it when the fish would pull the line loose from the side of the cork and then the cork would be loose to slide up the line or down to the weight before hitting the hook. I think you know what I mean. Again on friday evening the first thing I watch is your fishing video. I have watched some of mikes ta outdoors but its just not as entertaining as your videos. I used to love his bushcraft adventures as well as the hunting but lately they are just boring to me. Guess at 72 building viking huts just ain't that appealing but I keep watching hoping to see him get back to the kinds of videos that I enjoy. Thanks again Graeme.

Years ago the anglers would split the belly to reveal the white inside ands use them for Chub. That might work for Catfish as well.

Hi Graeme. Don't knock snails until you have tried them. Parsley and garlic butter and they are delicious. Terrible if you have cholesterol but delicious. Good health and stay safe.

There are always stories about people selling bottled slugs as snails. For the years i've been eating snails nothing has returned to haunt me yet. LOL.

You don't actually fish with the slugs! You just round 'em up and freeze 'em!

If you cook them, they float.
