You need a "reason" to own a gun. literally all this takes is to belong to a gun club (Clay shooting), which costs around 100 quid, or for game hunting. I would like to have a set up like that, but in the USA it requires a permit that they call a tax stamp from the the bureau of alcohol and firearms. Silencers are legal in my state that is florida, but not in some other places. There are poisons that are specific for rats.

I've found the 20g to not have much recoil, with the weight of the silencer it's quite heavy. To get it really quiet you need to have the lightest load subsonics, which also helps in that regard.

shotguns don't class as firearms unless they hold more than three shots. a shotgun license is easier to optain

Sometimes they have screw holes for scope or rail mounts, or he brought it to a gunsmith to be tapped for them.

Varmint shot has very little mass per pellet, they pose very little threat when raining down from above. A slug is a different matter though

Also, please don't use the term "high-powered" like the dopes who don't know anything about guns. That's not a type of firearm, its a buzz word created by politicians. A single shot hunting rifle, or any rifle not chambered in a varmint round is "high-powered". The ballistic strength of the cartridge isn't what makes a gun scary - so, call it a high capacity long gun or rifle.

I wonder how much of a nightmare it is in the UK to get a suppressor for your shotgun, or an integrally suppressed shotgun. They probably have to jump thru dozens of hoops.
