- Howie shows us step by step how to install a Lowrance Totalscan transducer to the Hobie Guardian. He'll take you through the entire process including mounting the transducer, running transducer and power cables, battery installation and setup, and mounting the head unit (in this case a Lowrance Elite 7Ti). There are many tips and tricks in this video that will help make this installation more easy as you follow along. Nice Video, all ways good to watch several on the same subject to catch differences, such as adding dielectric grease to connections or showing the step of unscrewing the retractable portion of the guardian plate.

One important step not mentioned in the video - on my 2019 Outback, the retractable portion of the Guardian is fixed in place with six screws. Those need to be removed before you attach the Guardian to the underside of the hull.

Personal observations / modifications to the video. Would mount the battery holder higher up the made to keep the battery out of any water that might make its way in (would not want an expensive LiOn battery in salt water). Would also recommend securing the excess transducer cable rather than just letting it slip around inside the hull. Common practice is to zip tie it to the mast as well.
Would like to know what/how Hobie recommends installing an anchor trolley on the 2019 Outback. Thanks

I wish the transducer holes were pre-drilled in the Guardian Mount! I am lazy! LOL, Great Product!
On all the fish finders that have a side scan transducer, do they need to be mounted to the outside of the guardian? I have a Humminbird Helix 7 and ordered the Hobi transducer mounting kit already

How would it work with other fish diner like Garmin and hummingbird?
same as for the lowrance. if there are mounting holes in the transducer, you bolt it to the transducer plate. otherwise, you attach the part that holds the transducer to the plate and then the transducer to that.
Was grounding the wire not required? I seen vids of guys not be able to use the touch screen until grounding is done....
Plugging the transducer into the head unit and power cable to battery completes the grounding loop. You may have the grounding issue if only the head unit is plugged into power when out of the water. The issue is not present when the loop is completed, nor is it present in the water.
Do all Lowrance (Hook 2 Triple shot transducer) carry a mounting plate for the guardian installation? 1:33
The TripleShot transducer mounts differently than the TotalScan shown in this video. Mounting the TripleShot doesn't require drilling holes in the Guardian's mounting plate. You will install the scooped thru-plate (found in the small parts packet included with your kayak) to the front of your Guardian, and mount the TripleShot to the vertical post inside the Guardian. You will need to use the extension tabs, also included in the small parts packet with your kayak, for mounting to the post. Please reference the 'Fish Finder Option' section of your Owner's Manual.
Am i installing the scoop plate the same as in the video?
Yodaddi Jim Yes, you'll install the scooped plate just as in the video - then your TripleShot will mount through the opening in the scoop and to the the post, using the two extension tabs + transducer mounting hardware that's included with your kayak. Drawings of the TripleShot installation are in your Outback manual (pg. 23-25).
Can i upgrade my hobie compass lowerance redy to hobie guardian ?
No, the Lowrance ready is not interchangeable with Guardian. Guardian is much larger and requires a larger cavity than the Lowrance Ready. You do have options for installing larger side imaging transducers to the Lowrance Ready plate. Please reach out to your nearest dealer for more information. www.hobie.com/dealers
Just purchased a 2018pa I guess this is not available ☹️ didn’t know the 2019 had this option when I purchased at mariner sails
New for 2019 on all Hobie Pro Angler Models and on the Outback is the Guardian system that adds a retractable transducer mount to help protect side scanning transducers. What about Garmin users. Will the Guardian system work Garmin side/vue, down/vue transducers?
Yes it will. It is appropriately sized for just about anything on the market. Depending on the brand, installations can vary a bit.

Since this video was published, Lowrance released the Elite Ti2. The Hobie part number for the Elite 7Ti2 is 72020218. If you are using the Parts & Accessories Search Tool on Hobie.com, you can always search by description as well.
Hobie would all the rest of the items will work with this new 7ti2? Meaning the list of accessories to make this work with my 2020 outback installation? Also can I use the lowrance hook 5 totalscan ???
@@7stripesfishing830 All the parts will be the same with the Elite ti2. The Hook Reveal 5 will not work with a TotalScan. TripleShot is the side imaging transducer that is compatible with Hook series fish finders. We recommend stepping up to a 7" unit for use with side scan.
Hobie my question is what system should I use to make use of my outback transducer guard? I really like that future on this kayak

-RAM Mounts 1.5" Track Ball/72023059
-Hobie Fishfinder Installation Kit with Lithium Pro Power/72020145
You will use these parts in combination with the parts that come with the kayak. Transducer mounting screws can be found in the Lowrance box.
