Mouse guns have filled many a pine box. I’d love to get my hands on one of these, especially as I age and my hands lose a little bit of strength and dexterity.
I have one that I carry. So easy just to put it in my pocket and go. No need for a holster. 32ACP has been around for years. My grandad carried a 32 Colt revolver.
An underrated little pistol, in my opinion. I was a Deputy US Marshal for 22 years, and I was allowed to carry anything but a single action pistol for backup; the minimum caliber was a .380. I still have a Browning BDA .380 that I used on my ankle as my backup until I bought a Glock 43. I am not a Glock fan; as a matter of fact, I was not too fond of it when the service went to the Glock 22 as the primary weapon, don't get me wrong, the 22 was an outstanding gun to shoot, but for concealed carry, it was not the best. Nowadays, you can carry any Glock in 9mm or .40 with at least ten rounds in the magazine. Before retiring, three years ago, I bought the Glock 43X, and it is the one I carry the most. Since I am retired, I can have whatever pleases me, and I bought this little gun for days that my 43X is not convenient to carry. Yes is a marginal .32 caliber, but at least I don't feel naked without a weapon on me. It is an outstanding little peace of mind, may I say. Sir, you gained a subscriber here.

I have this pistol and for lightweight summer carry it’s great in a pocket. I would recommend carrying ball ammo over JHPs, as penetration depth is important in these low power rounds. Do you own research on ammo selection though. Also remember the .32 in your pocket is better than the .45 you left in the glove box.
Exactly. That's what people forget. I rather have a minimal footprint .32 ACP that I WILL carry Vs something larger that I won't. Even my previous PPK/S found itself at home because it didn't fit in my pocket and the holsters were annoying and uncomfortable. I carry a wallet and cell phone because I definitely need them and will definitely use them. A gun is for some totally outlying event so I don't feel that I should give up a ton of comfort for it or change the way I dress. My front pocket is always empty so that's all the accommodation I'm making to carry a gun. As a bonus, the Tomcat also is a very handsome pistol. It's nonthreatening and is almost like having a nice watch instead of a pistol.
Good advice. A small 25 caliber beretta saved my grandfathers life. Knowing that family story i whole heartedly agree that the weapon you have with you is far better than the best weapon that is consistently left behind. My grandfather passed me some amazing pistols he brought home but that beretta is my favorite because neither myself or my father would be here without it.

@@rodgersmith1573 My grandfather worked three jobs. He had a large family to feed. He worked at a lumber yard driving trucks and working in the mill during the day. He came home for an hour or so to eat and was back at the mill at night to work as a security guard.
One night, back by the loading docks, a man was stealing lumber. When he realized he was caught he tried to run my grandfather over. With nowhere to run my grandfather fired through the vehicles window. The bullet penetrated the window and stuck in the drivers neck. It was a small miracle that the .25 penetrated the glass and struck the driver. This action took the fight right out of the driver who surrendered. My grandfather called for help and was able to save the drivers life.

One of my favorite plinkers! Just be careful during disassembly for cleaning. There is a tiny spring and pin under the manual safety that WILL go flying if your are not careful. DO NOT take the grips off in the field or hunting camp type of floor 😂 Luckily, Brownells sells these parts…

This is my wife's purse gun. As you point out, the pistol is for self-defense at close range. FMJ ammo is recommended, but even so there is virtually no recoil. She doesn't even like to shoot her 380 due to the recoil. Since she has minimal hand strength, the tilt-barrel design is ideal for her and the safety and the DA trigger assures me that there is plenty of safety for her concealed carry (always in a holster in her purse). Eight rounds of .32 ACP at close range would be enough to stop any threats. And she is a very good shot. Also as you point out, those considering this design MUST put rounds through the gun before carrying. I have put nearly 200 rounds through her gun, and the last 50 or so rounds have been free of hang-ups. Before that I was getting about one failure per 7 rounds in the mag. Failure to feed is the issue, so it must be the magazine. Also, I keep her gun and magazine clean after each range session, and another tip is to (very lightly) put some lube (gun oil) on each round before loading into the magazine. It's a wonderful little pistol after break-in.

Beretta still makes the bobcat and the covert bobcat with a threaded barrel, which I purchased about a year ago. It fires 22LR and is a tremendous amount of fun. After 1000 rounds it has never failed and fires as fast as I can pull. Beretta knows how to make handguns
Beretta makes a good firearm. Always liked the tip up feature. Back in the day I would have bought the Tomcat but I discovered Seecamp 32's and Keltec P32's. Both lighter than the Beretta and I alternate them as my work pocket carry guns. On another note, I recommend a quality pocket holster for any of these aforementioned mouse guns.

I still have my Jetfire that I purchased in the early 90s, I love that little gun.
This was an excellent video very informative regardless of your personal knowledge or experience. My first pistol was a Beretta .32 I bought in 1966. No it is not a powerful weapon but it is not designed to be that kind of pistol. I had discussed my purchase with a friend who owned a lot of guns as I had originally thought about the .25 caliber. I am so glad I went for the .32 as it is a much better caliber for everyday use. My pistol is a standard blow back and does not have the tipped barrel.
My wife has CC this weapon for over 10 years, she loves it.

Good stuff, Allen, the features on that little pistol and it's operation are going to let me recommend a friend to take a look. Arthritic hands, weak grip strength, has trouble with the .380 EZ slide though does well with the shooting aspect.

My Mom's pistol was, (And Is) the 25acp Beretta Jetfire. I loved that thing. So I got me a Tomcat as one of my first firearms.

I own a Bobcat and it's a great little pistol, never fails!
A very good point about what size you can comfortably handle. A hit with a 22 is better than a miss with a 45.

I carried the Taurus version of the Bobcat which was PT22 for years. Traded it in for the Ruger SR22. I would love to get my hands on a Bobcat now.
I love these little Berettas. They are all most civilians actually need in many cases. The bands of ninjas not withstanding. Most people don’t want additional holes in their bodies, so they offer a modicum of self defense and also are a great general utility piece against snakes when knocking about in the woods, as well as a swift remedy for predators around the farm, .They are very well made , and their design is exceptional for deep concealment and everyday carry in real life situations. The Bobcat is 22lLR and the blued version in 25ACP are also equally suited. Beretta also made a midsize model 86 chambered in 380 with the tip up barrel if you are lucky enough to find one. I am always looking for these little guys, but with the introduction of these new renditions with the suppressor ready barrels, they should be much easier to find. I don’t really get the suppressor thing, but I guess many like that as an option, and it would make dispatching pest less annoying for neighbors. The forerunners of these pistols, the 950, model 20, etc., are also exceptional little pistols. Thanks for the video.
Have the early Tomcat with the lighter weight frame. Works great. Also have a KelTec P32. Works fine but the Tomcat is just enough bigger that it is much easier to shoot multiple shots. Tomcat grip size is just right. Tip up barrel is a bonus. Wouldn't trade it. Good video. Thanks
Great little pistol. I purchased the 21A Covert which is the same gun, but in 22LR. Very accurate, 100% reliable with non-bulk ammo, looks cool, and an absolute stellar suppressor host. I didn't get the 32 ACP model simply because the ammo is sooooooooo hard to find. A lot of people try to force 8 rounds into the magazine because you can make them fit. Don't do it. The pistol will ALWAYS fail to chamber the top round from the magazine because of the pressure of the top round against the bottom of the slide. Always only load 7 rounds in the magazine as the owner's manual states.
That has been my carry piece for 10+ years. Fortunately not tested yet but I have complete faith in it. Thanks for the review.

Purchased one last week. This is a great video and gives me all the pros and cons I need to know.
This is a purse gun for my GF, but I may buy one myself if I like it. It was this or a Ruger LCP max. Got a $150 rebate so only $250. I figured if it sucks I can always liquidate it at no loss.
I’ve bought the 83 (32acp) and the 85BB (380acp). Love them both. I’ve had the 83 for a few years now and it works like a dream. Biggest problem is finding extra mags and ammo for the 32.
The 83, 84, 85 & especially the 86, are awesome pistols.
Excellent, straightforward review
This is my summer shorts gun/running to the store quick gun. I have it in a sticky holster that I can just jam in a pocket or put it in my waste band. Such a great little gun for easy carry gun.
After you shoot a 100 rounds through it, it will cycle more reliably. I talked to Beretta and they won't tell you the specific round to fire, but I mentioned I used CCI Mini-Mags. They said those work well. I also fired Thunderbolt lead stuff, Wolf, Stingers and Federal copper HP. I even mixed them to see if it would jam. It did not jam. Mine shoots down and to the left. The sights suck, but at 7 yards you can shoot a group that is good. They do get dirty quick. I would recommend only shooting 100-150 rounds at the range if you clean your gun right after. I use CLP and it works fine.

I have used a couple of Tomcats & a Bobcat. Never had a issue with any of them. They are accurate and reliable. They work great for us older foke's, and I have yet to meet anyone who is willing to take a round from the .22LR, or the .32ACP from one.
Never know now-a-days. With the drugs some of these guys are using, they have lost most of their cognitive thinking.
Neighbor Randy took a .32 round to the knee after a bar fight in 04. He's STILL in a wheel chair ♿️..
32 ACP is plenty for an up close and personal defense gun. I have a model 70 Zastava 32 ACP that I have had for years and carry quite often. It is a very reliable little gun, but I have often wished it had a threaded barrel. I may have to look at one of these for that reason.

Beretta 81 is one of my favorite guns I own..32ACP is a good round.I don't want to get shot by one..reliable and accurate!follow up shots are right where I want them.like your tastes in guns.s& W revolvers with a few years on them and some nice italian guns are a good thing..like a CZ with some age on it too.wld like a 75 compact decock model some day..take cAre and have a good holidays
I just picked up the Inox version today. It's the size and width of my wallet, which was exactly what I was looking for. It packs a lot of features in a tiny package. Minus a decocker and slide lock, it meets everything I am looking for and the lack of decocker is compensated by the tilt-up barrel. It is extremely safe and from what I hear, reliable with PMC Bronze or Fiocchi. I feel that .32 ACP is perfectly matched for its size, ergonomics and purpose as opposed to a snappier .380 Auto. I cannot wait to carry it.
Desantis makes their Nemesis pocket holster for it and I would highly recommend it. They’re quite inexpensive too.
@@bencrane8505 I have seen those before on other channels reviewing the Tomcat. I am thinking about picking one up to keep the pistol from flopping around in my pocket.
Don’t use Fiocchi, it’s loaded too hot for the Tomcat. You need to stick with rounds with less than 130 foot pounds of energy, or you’ll crack the frame. New production ones come with a warning label in the box.
@@nickg4422 I decided that I am going to run only PMC Bronze. It's rated at 126 ft-lb of muzzle energy. That should give plenty of leeway for variances allowing it to definitely remain below 130 ft-lb.
@@sicilianlibertarian8417 good choice! Most of the American stuff is fine, along with PMC and Magtech. The Euros load to a higher SAMI rating, especially Fiocchi and S&B. Buffalo Bore is up around the 200 foot-pound mark. They’ve done neat things with improving .32 ACP performance, but the Tomcat can’t handle it. It’s effectively a scaled up rimfire design, and just wasn’t made for those pressures. Pretty gun, and I love mine.

I had the same issues with mags fully loaded. Until the magazine was broken in I ran 6 in it reliably and eventually it broke in to where 7 in it was reliable.
Nice review, I’ve had one of these tomcats since 94 almost sold it and I’m glad I didn’t it’s been my “summer Gun” for many years. I used to hunt down self defense ammunition for it but over the years I came to the realization that it didn’t have the velocity to open the hollow points up and was concerned with penetration so I only use jacketed round nose now.
This man keeps it real.
I got a new one,several years ago,never got it to fire more than 2 times in a row.don't know where I left it but at least I have a single shot.
I have the 22lr version, it's hilarious with a silencer. The 32 version is pretty high on my wishlist.
I don't think I'd ever pick that over my Sig 365 but it's a pretty slick looking little piece.
Got this exact gun a couple months back. First time on the range - and shooting just my second magazine - the trigger stopped working. Sent it back to Beretta to fix. I imagine I’ll have it back in about a month. Pretty bummed obviously.
I’ve got two Bobcats in .22LR that I’ve had since the mid 80s. The first one, which was manufactured in the first year only came with one mag and wouldn’t function reliably until I bought new mags. The second never gave me any fits. I like these guns so much that I had them refurbished this past summer. What I paid for both of them back in the 80s is less than what you’d pay for a new one today. I don’t have any experience with the Tomcat, but would imagine the best way to keep one running reliably, like the .22s is to keep the chamber squeaky clean - brush it out occasionally and especially after a range session. Extraction will not be a problem until it gunks up.
Not if you factor in inflation. They’re actually cheaper now.

I like the wood grips but I bought factory black plastics ones for mine (22 cal). That makes it a bit thinner.
I have the 21A Covert (Bobcat) in 22LR. The reason the pistol does not need an extractor is the blowback operation is from the cartridge casing pushing back on the breach face. The HK P7M8 will function fine without the extractor for the same reason. This is just a minor nit pick I admit. Beretta made a very cool pistol in both the 21A and 3032. The "Covert" versions are especially cool, except in FDE. Those are ugly. I like the black ones with walnut grips. Personal preference obviously. Anyway, other than my nit picking, very nice presentation.
Many people nowadays Carry ultra lightweight pocket 380s LCP ..LCP2. Keltec 3AT...etc
The problem is they have extremely snappy recoil... I own a Kel-Tec p32.. extremely reliable and accurate up to 50 ft... The recoil is nil! 32 is only a slight step down from 380.. still plenty effective against the bad guy... A much more effective than a 25.. or 22 pocket pistol
My brother has a P32, and I really want to try it out...we currently carry a .25acp Jetfire (the .38 revolver just got too big and heavy), and I'd feel better if we could step up to .32acp...this Tomcat, the P32, and the Seacamp seem the best possible options, as our .380s are snappier than we like...
I love pocket guns never had a Beretta yet almost bought one glad I held off I got a Grail gun instead

My wife’s first gun and it drew blood with the first round fired: she cupped it way high and the sharp slide sliced into her thump, requiring stitches.
Have never caught my thumb but had to be really careful with mine to not slice thumb/forefinger webbing.
Not sure if it's still the case but Beretta used to warn against using any ammunition with greater than 129 ft . lbs . of energy in their 32 ACP Tomcat .

I personally carry a S&W model 36 Chief special. Loaded with buffalo 🐃 bores 158 gr. Wad Cutters. It’s in my pocket all the time even when I carry IWB my Walter PPS M2.
The earlier version of this pistol was fun to shoot but if you have big or chubby hands watch out for slide bite. You don't have to worry about the hammer but the slide will get you right at the webbing if you hold your gun in a normal grip. You have to hold it low. On such a tiny gun you naturally want to hold higher but the bore is so low and you can't avoid the bite. You won't feel it much but it can also interfere with the cycling of he slide.
Self defense rounds got expensive because there really wasn't much of a demand for 32acp. Worse yet, the frame was not robust enough for high pressure. Beretta either used weak steel or some kind of alloy instead of stainless and unless they've listened to all their complaining customers who learned the hard way, if you use anything else other than Winchester White box you will eventually end up with a cracked frame. So stay away from Cor-bon, Aguila, Hornady, PPV, or S&B. I used them in my other steel frame Berettas with no problem. But the Tomcat was not made to withstand the pressure. Read your manual! If it says only use Winchester White Box, don't buy it. You need a decent self defense bullet with high pressure if you're going to use a short barrel pistol. No sense in buying a $500 gun that will last less than a few thousand rounds over the life of the gun. Beretta had lousy customer service. When I bought my Tomcat I paid around $300 for it thinking I got a great deal. I didn't know about the frame issue. I used to be a Beretta fan. Still own five others but will never buy another. Called up customer service and was basically very politely told to go fu*k myself.
I think Promag used to make high capacity 10 rd. mags. I bought four or five. I think they probably still do. There were a couple of companies that sold aftermarket mags that were pretty decent. And also mags with a pinky extension. And Crimson Trace used to make a red laser wrap around rubber grip. You might still be able to find them on the used market. If there is an Alley Cat version try to get that. It would be worth it because of the big dot front site and the stronger frame but supposedly it was a limited run and it was way more expensive because it was titanium.
The Tomcat was really cool but ended up being a total disappointment. Better to buy a Ruger LCP MAX in .380 acp. if you need a pocket pistol that is easy to rack. Besides the Ruger LCP MAX has a higher capacity and is a slightly bigger round. You will get better performance and much better customer service. On top of that, there are more ammo selections for .380acp.
Got the tomcat use .32 fmj slugs, great little warm weather light clothing CC pistol..

Not a super power cartridge. 😂 I wouldn't wanna get hit with a rock. especially with the hi tech ammo today the 32 can be a viable round in a pinch. Keep up the great vidio's.

A convenient feature of the pop up barrel is that you can manually load that first shell that puts you in business, without the "rack" noise of operating the slide to lock & load for action. A stealth advantage if the bad guy is nearby and you don't want to announce that you have a gun and just loaded it. Same convenience when you want to discreetly stand down and quietly unload and clear the barrel by hand.
I think with this gun it’s safe to keep one in the barrel. With both a manual safety and an external hammer it’s still safe. Maybe even hammer cocked. Condition one.

Been hearing the newer ones have issues with the frame cracking which is disappointing because otherwise I’d love to get one just for the design and aesthetic. Something you can throw in your pocket when you go to the gas station or something.
The only problem with .32 app is availability. I haven’t seen it on the shelf in my area in 2 years.
Dealer I got mine from a few yrs ago told me they can't keep them on the shelf... every one they get is already spoken for. Even with that I don't think I waited more than 2 weeks to get one.

If it doesn’t have an extractor how would you be able to perform an immediate action clearing ? If you had a dud round ?

If you get a failure to fire how do you extract the unfired (failed-to-fire) cartridge? Do you pull it out with your finger nails? To you tip up the barrel and turn the gun upside down and shake it?
I'd love to get another Bobcat but I have no use what so ever for a threaded barrel.

Had a tomcat without the threaded barrel for a while. Decided I didn't need it due to how fat and heavy it is for its size and caliber. Most .380s are slimmer and lighter with a bit more power than .32 acp as well. I'd recommend a .380 instead.
Granted, but how's the recoil of those pocket .380s (and 9s, even with specialized "micro" loads)? My PPK/S kicks enough from a single box of ammo I'm convinced that's the smallest and lightest I'll go for that caliber, and it's too big for the kind of "pocket carry" we're talking about. Both calibers are "back down" as opposed to "vanquish the enemy" class so .32 probably remains adequate for most everyday civilian applications.
The tip up barrel feature is a hold over from the .25 caliber models which do not have an extractor. Lacking an extractor means cartridges cannot be ejected by racking the slide and thus by making the barrel tip up, they can be removed without having to rod them out of the barrel!
The .32 auto is plenty potent for punching holes THROUGH a human assuming the user hasn't bought into the HP nonsense, and a hole clean THROUGH a person means hole clean THROUGH everything in between....as opposed to HP bullets in modest power calibers where the bullet can "over perform," expand too much and fail to reach the vital spot - PRECISELY what happened in Miami in 1986 when a Silvertip failed to punch through the heart, but had that been a FMJ it WOULD have punched through the heart...same goes for all handgun calibers.
I own a broad array of pocket pistols and the Beretta is probably my favorite, despite being heavier than the others, because it fits the hand so perfectly....is highly reliable and accurate. It's a thick gun due to the need for an overweight slide, but still amply concealable.
I wish Beretta would introduce a double-action-only model with a slick frame (no safety) and bobbed hammer in the Bruition-type finish. Just add a laser grip and you have a great low-cost pocket pistol.

I have a 3 year old 3032 with black plastic grips and would like those nice wood grips, wi. They fit?
My experience was horrible it has fixed sights which were 5 ft low at 10 paces. Needless to say it is the only gun I ever returned to the store I purchased it from
all calibers are good for defense but I feel comfortable with the 380 round ✌🇺🇸
How is the 32acp for a recoil? My mother is looking for something that her arthritic hand can handle.
Not having to rack the slide can be an advantage if one arm or hand is injured making it difficult to rack the slide.
Seems like people line up to say bad things about .32 ACP. It's good for indoor and close environments and will make bad guys leak just fine. JHP in .32 is a decent defense cartridge even if the expansion is not so wide. It's great for people who don't want bulk or who have a hard time with muzzle flip.
