Colonel Bowie would be proud to carry that knife. As an American the Bowie knife has a special place in my heart. Your decision to go with the simple leather scabbard instead of the military-style sheath was wise. The handle decoration is appropriate for the time the knife was designed was also appropriate, completely practical. Your attempt to place a tubular rivet at the tip of the sheath was appropriate too as typically a leather thong would be used to tie the sheath to the user’s leg but it works and you made it, too. Using it to make your lunch was also appropriate as the knife was intended to be the survival knife of its day, the indispensable multitool a man would use for every task. Beep beep!
Made in Sheffield England, even the knife found on James Bowie’s body was stamped “Wostenholm”. George Wostenholm was a master cutler in the UK, they were, and still are based in Sheffield.
@@randyallamon7603 Don’t know how you can say “Fact”, unless you bore physical witness and saw it with your own eyes. Bowie famous for using a knife for fighting undoubtedly had a knife on him. What I maybe should have said is “Depending on your sources, it is alleged that at the time of his death Bowie was in possession of a Wostenholm made knife.”
I didn't think the handguard was brass until you polished it. The polished handguard and black hornbeam handle really looked good together, then you top it off with copper wire artwork. Alex, you are a true artist. At the end, your meal looked so good I had to go and cook something for myself.

Man, for real. When you unassembled that rusty knife I thought how would you do anything to transform full garbage into something. But you did it. That handler is by far your best work. Without the video nobody can say that beautiful knife is the same crap before the restoration. It's a masterpiece. One day somebody will study you because your mind is 1000 years ahead of us. What a beautiful restoration job you did on that knife, and you did a good job of making a new sheath for it as well. It looks much better and it cuts like a razor-sharp knife. Excellent work.
I enjoy all of your restorations 👍 this one though,,, truly special. You gave this beautiful knife a new life. May it serve you well in all your travels into the woods & mountains. 🙏🙏🙏

I really enjoyed this video and the spectacular work you did. Hoping you have several more WWI & WWII artifacts to restore. Those historic items seem to be very popular.
Great job in restoring the Bowie Knife! And making a new handmade leather sheath! Badass! At one time in our history having a Great knife was as important as picking a good horse and a firearm to survive! Of the three? I'd choose a good Bowie Knife first!
Hello Alex, what a beautiful restoration! The brass, bronze and bone inlayed in the handle are perfect! I would not have known it is the first time you have used that technique! Simply a masterpiece! Thank you for another wonderful video! Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to You and Yours! From Brian in Southern California
Don’t care about other person’s negativity on your sheath !!! I’ve done some work like this with leather and the metals and the wood !!! Your sheath is very well made and that took way more time than Mr . Negative feedback has a clue !! Also loved the handle and amazing inlay work with scrap wire !!! All of it was Top notch and well done Sir …… Keep up your great work. Thanks for sharing this

I really like what you did to the handle it’s very beautiful. I’m shocked people are offended with your handling of the sheath it’s not exactly a historical artifact and was unusual and unfitting for a Bowie knife. I can only imagine how good your cooking is that looks delicious!
I. Doubt it's unfitting since it was made for it Metal scabbards are known, I understand they are bulkier and heavier than leather, yes... But many Bowies wernt.. exactly always made as actual survival tools... This could be even military issue and given a scabbard like a period sword Or it could've just been a showpiece.. a big scary blade with a nice scabbard for wearing
Tip for an inexpensive black wood, put oak into a sealed container with a bowl of ammonia in it for a day and exposure to ammonia vapor turns the oak black. Also it sounds like you have the same problem I do when sandblasting the compressor struggles, if you use a wire wheel to pre clean the parts it’s less work for the sandblaster.
Thanks for the feedback. I'm still thinking of putting a filter in the compressor, but I don't know how yet... moisture collects and after 15 minutes or more of work begins to interfere with the sand.
Great job on the knife would have loved to see you continue what you started with the original sheath the hardware would have been a master's touch. I have been doing leather work since I was 14, I am about to turn 67 I was looking foward to the original sheath being redone. 😊
