Yep and a lot of the confusion comes from Terminator and the DBZ and Dragon Ball Super Dub referring to both cyborgs and actual androids as androids even though some translations of the Manga have since been corrected to the more accurate "cyborgs" or "bio-roids".(The anime and video games, however at least, in the West retains the mistake)and the Terminator Films, Comics and Games making the opposite mistake, calling androids, nanomorphs, viral military supercomputers in hologram form and actual cyborgs cyborgs or "enhanced humans". To be fair, this likely is an honest mistake resulting from Americans and Japanese people in the `80s,`90s and early-mid 2000s not yet understanding the nuances and distinctions of different forms of AI since the technology was still so new.
Actually the Terminator (the T-800) is by definition a cyborg. He has living organic components and is a "cybernetic organism" Cyborgs need not he human nor do they need to have onnce been a fully organic organism.

WRONG. The original source of the word Robot is Slavic from "robotika" ="hard worker/manual labor," but through later Czechoslovakian came to have the sense of "forced labor and drudgery (I.E. slave and slavery)." It was later adopted and applied to any machine designed to take over specific types of work and functions. In techincality even a motor vehcile is a robot because it replaces such as horses and other livestock. Robots with roughly humanoid shapes are not true Androids. Android comes from Greek :Andro" = man and Latin derived 'Id" = Likeness and therefore simply means man-like or human like. Even a "statue that looks identical to a human" falls in this context but the true sense of Android is a machine created to look, think and act "like" a human. The word "Droid" dropping the first "An" part is Made-up by George Lucas for Star Wars. A Cyborg is simply any biological life form that has integration of synthetic parts be they limbs or organs or tissue. A Machine to which biological parts are added is also a Cyborg only to a point. However, if you introduce a fully living brain like that of an animal or human to said machine as a vehicle for its survival then it becomes a true cyborg even if over time various neurons are replaced with such as silicone based ones for storing and preserving accessible memory and consciousness.
I find this extremely fascinating and I am dealing with a chatbot AI and perhaps someday you can break down the difference, the future looks bright and intriguing and it allows us to grow, Semper Fidelis, Oorah Carry On and Beyond 💯‼️
Cyborgs. Part digital circuitry & part life? Is that right? That sounds a lot more interesting than just robots or even androids. What if an adult human head with intact brain could be grown to then attach to an android body? Maybe the android body would need to have the equivalent of a spine & nervous system. But then its not much different than a person, except maybe the whole growing up bit can be dispensed with. There's also the question of, if it is partly alive as in cyborg, is there a soul that fuses with it during its initial growth? My Theory (The General Theory of Equal Opposites) is that only living tissue with thoughts can have a soul, because there are two layers of evolution in every life form, a Darwinian DNA thought level & a soul at the same thought level (with the soul using the body to evolve to a higher thought level in that lifetime). In this respect I don't think anything mechanical/electrical will ever have a soul. Therefore cyborgs would be the ultimate mimic of a person, but how far off is that? What if in the future someone fell in love with a cyborg but society made fun of them? That might make a good plot for a movie. "Look, he's with his cute little cyborg. How cute is that, ha ha ha!"
I'm sure you are right about a movie on this subject, in fact I already watched one on TH-cam and it was a Guy Robot that got too close to the owner's wife!

Very well done. I feel grateful. I should just not limit a cyborg to be HUMAN. It can be a LIVING creature (certainly in the near future), like a dog (or an E.T… why not?)
The real question is where do cyborgs end and androids begin and where do robots end and androids begin. If I replace body parts one by one with cybernetics at what point do I change from cyborg to android? Is it the brain that we should use to determine if an entity is still human? What if we download all the memories and neural connections to precisely replicate someone - are they human or android? In other words, is it a requirement that the brain be physically organic? Correlate of the Ship of Thebes problem, anyone?
I think it would be the brain that would be the deciding factor. I think we are a long way from downloading memories since we are very far way from knowing completely how the brain/mind works from both a physiological/psychological understanding.
Even if you change all your body to mechanical parts, but your brain remains organic, you're still a cyborg (like Motoko Kusanagi) so you'd still be a human, mentaly. Alternatively, I wonder if an android that install organic parts/organs could be considered a cyborg?..
Thank you. It did not make any sense for the Terminator to call itself a cybernetic organism. Having flesh does not make one a cyborg. It did not even make sense for the flesh to heal if damaged. There would have to be some type of system built inside to pump blood, take in oxygen, and provide nutrients, which is not in the schematics. RoboCop is the true definition of a cyborg. Dragon Ball Z Android Saga, they were by definition cyborgs. In some dub translations, they were referred to as cyborgs (#17#18).

I Think that Sophia is a chatbot; not quite an Android but not quite a robot either, chatbots are capable of takling and gesturing, but are not capable of “breaking free” from thier programming. And they Can only say some preprogrammed Lines.
I wouldn't rely on the "sense of life" part for Cyborgs. The idea of 'life' being some special magics that could not be replicated with purely technological measures will be outdated soon. So, Cyborgs are just robots or Android with organic parts.
Sophia is still a robot in the purest sense. She can't walk on her own and her movements are very restricted, only her face has been made to meet the standards of an android. For an android to be classified as such it requires autonomy, self-learning and to closely resemble a human. For the best example of an android, think of Data from Star Trek Next Generation. Whereas a Cyborg is portrayed as a half-man and half-machine being that is both robotic and bionic via implants. Cyborgs can be machines that have an inner metallic endoskeleton with an outer living tissue, like in Terminator. It is only because of the living tissue that terminators are cyborgs, otherwise, they would be classified as androids. In most modern practical applications, a cyborg is a living human being who is physically in connection with the technology via implants or such. Robocop is a type of cyborg to the extreme.
If they have a biological brain they are cyborgs. If it is a human brain they are still human. Just cubernetically enhanced humans. A cyborg is not a seperate race or species. A robot and android/gynoid are the same thing if they look human. A possible issue may be if the bot tries to pass as human or doesn't care one way or the other. This may be a determining factor.
Actually the Terminator (the T-800) is by definition a cyborg. He has living organic components and is a "cybernetic organism" Cyborgs need not he human nor do they need to have onnce been a fully organic organism.
I think it’s the amount of biological material in a artificial being is the difference. Robots have no biological material, cyborgs are mostly biological just with some changes like franky from one piece as he’s mostly human just he made changes to survive getting hit head on by a train, androids are artificial beings that somehow gain sentience or are somewhere in between robots and cyborgs although they might have a robotic body and a real brain or a artificial brain in a biological body depending on the situation. Data from Star Trek is technically an android as he does have an artificial brain but some biological body parts working together with robotic parts.
Android is not Man as in male... 'Andr' means Man as in mankind (a VERY different meaning from man as in male), and -oid basically means 'like'. So Andr-oid basically means Man-Like or Human-Like. Using Gynoid to denote a Female Robot or droid, is just plain stupid. What is it a fat Android? Gynaecoid would be a better term in opinion. Cyborg comes from Cybernetic Organism... Cybernetic is basically any type of machinery that moves or changes in its environment. Organism is basically anything that is alive. Robot comes from robota meaning ‘forced labour'. So basically any type of Machinery or Device that does what it's told or programmed to do.
