I was getting frustrated with some website issues I was having and the host file mods fixed them. Thank you.

Thank you very much. I was looking for this for some time. In my case I wanted to type "dev" in address bar and make it go to my app. I just didn't realize that I also needed to tweak the hosts file.

I have a web app on .Net deployed over IIS using local database. Is ther any way I can make it public? Right now I am able to view it over local internet connection. Pls help me.

I set up IIS on a network drive and so I set the binding to something other than port 21. It worked then but I still use port 21 to connect so I thought the binding had to do with the shared drive. You seem to be saying the opposite. I connect to it through port 21 even though I set the binding to 320 so what's the 320 do?

If you changed the bindings to 320 but it's still connecting over 21, then it sounds like it must be another site or another binding that is being used. A good way to test is with a break test. Stop the site briefly and confirm that you can't connect any longer. That will confirm that you're changing the correct site. I suspect that you have two sites in play.

Yes, thanks for the comment on that. This is for testing only, and only impacts the local machine. btw, since this video, localtest.me is available. Check out readme.localtest.me.

you would not need to amend the hosts name - if your DNS is up to date then an IP address (and name possibly) you specify in the bindings will point to the address you want.. You really only want to amend the host file when testing.
