UKRAINE WAR: Dwindling support in NATO countries? "The EURO 2024 has absolute priority!"
Ahead of the NATO summit, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz (SPD) has once again assured Ukraine of his long-term support against the Russian war of aggression. "And it is good that we have reinforced this once again in the last few days with a very clear message: we will stand by Ukraine for as long as it takes," said Scholz in Berlin before his departure for the meeting in Washington.
He referred to arms deliveries and the joint initiative of the most important industrialized countries. At their summit in Italy, the G7 states had agreed to finance a loan package worth around 50 billion US dollars (around 47 billion euros) with the help of interest from frozen Russian state assets.
Former Lieutenant General Roland Kather, on the other hand, sees a dwindling interest among Western countries in the war in Ukraine. "The European Football Championship has absolute priority here!" - says Kather on WELT.
