@@Gavin_Haughey_Colorist One question for future videos. Whats your thoughts on luts, filmconvert, dehancer etc? Does it make us lazy? Is it waste of money as many features are already included in Davinci? I know they are different but you know what i mean. You can get similar results by only using Davinci. Can you recommend a color grading book? Other youtuber? Filmmaker?
I want to learn color grading properly and because if this i havnt purchased for example filmconvert and luts. I want to learn how to make my own luts and my own style and not take the easy road and just purchase a specific look. I know filmconvert has more to offer then luts. 6K grain and more tools when color grading.

What settings are you using in the color management for the project and what color/gamma tags do you give the Video on the export? And is your monitor calibrated for Rec.709 Gamma 2.4 or are you using something else?

I mostly work in colormanaged davinci wide gammut and export in rec709 or srgb for web, gamma 2.4. my monitor is calibrated for rec709.

the color grading is all about the camera.. if it is an arri or a high end cinema camera.. color grading is too easy to get any kind of look.
This is what ive been looking for!! I have the Mini Panel and several cameras. Can I achieve this "filmic" look with the S1H or sony fx6? I get so frustrated with the footage coming in because it looks so sharp or "video-ish".. I know with certain cameras like black magic It has that sort of arri organic look with the highlight rolloff going on but for other cameras that most of my clients have the footage is from mirrorless cameras and its always so sharp. Will that filmic node do the trick? Great content btw!! Instant Sub
The main problem is definitely the sharpness. That’s why I tend to go and also put on this slight blur. Everything I do here can be built with selfmade curves (curves are extremely powerful). You can always go and try different film emulations and just soften it by making it 10-90 %. Then you tweak it from there. But S1H /fx6 can definitely be graded to look more filmic :)
@@Gavin_Haughey_Colorist thanks man..when you say selfmade curves are you referring to hue/hue curves or the standard curves with just luma & RGB? Also you said soften the Film emulation, are you talking about adding like kodak 2383 on a node and then taking the opacity down on the key output tab? Or are you talking about something totally different? Im about to open resolve and try whatever you're saying..
I think you can use the standard RGB Curve to make the Highlights Roll off flatter instead of linear. Also try to take your sharpness values down in the camera itself. And shoot Log of course. If that doesnt help put a mist filter in which softens details and brings glow to Highlights.
