"We've got a Fire Nation person invading an Earthbeding tournament?" I think Earth Rumble is meant to be similar to real-life WWE wrestling, where one fighter may be the designated Heel for the audience to root against. Doesn't mean they are actually Fire Nation.
The only times Iv heard people not liking tough is the ones who don’t like her personality cause they think she’s too intense for them. Which is fine.😭💀but still confuses me cause we have way more intense characters and yet they don’t be liking tough
the average person actually eats 0 spiders a year, but one man, Spiders Georg, lives in a cave and eats 10,000 spiders a day. He was a statistical outlier adn should not have been counted
Oh, you guys know George too? I'm sorry I didn't know to contact you. I and some of George's other friends and loved ones actually had an intervention for him a few weeks ago. It didn't go well. We tried telling him that caves weren't hygienic and the spider-only diet was distressing people. We said we'd help him find a place to live and transition him back to normal food, but he just kept saying "in _this_ economy?" until he finally just returned to his cave.
@@ILikeCHEEZ9 Exactly. Honestly spiders have been on the planet for millions of years. To have lasted that long they clearly have enough of a survival instinct to not go into a large animal's mouth.
So the earth bending tournament was modeled after a prowrestling event. The Boulder was voiced by prowrestler Mick Foley who based his performance on The Rock. Fire Nation man was playing the age old prowrestling gimmick of the foreign heel. The foreign heel plays the part of someone from a rival country and will do stuff like waving their nation's flag, trash talking the home country, and playing the other country's national anthem.
I've seen ep. 6 about 100 times, but this is the first time I realized that when Toph says "goodbye" to Aang she's actually crying not because of what her dad said but because she had already decided to run away. She just felt sad because she realized her parents will never understand or accept the person that she truly is.
Avatar Extras Avatar Day 1:14 This group is known as the “Rough Rhinos.” Their name is derived from Teddy Roosevelt's historic calvary (sic) brigade, "The Rough Riders" and are an elite Fire Nation squad, kind of like the Green Beret, or Navy Seals.. The Boulder ended up being voiced by Mick Foley a famous wrestler himself known as Mankind. 20:00 Fact: Fire Nation Man is not actually from the Fire Nation. Fire Nation Man is actually an awesome earthbender who takes on the persona of a bad guy. The Beifongs are the richest people in the southern Earth Kingdom. Toph's earthbending style doesn't rely so much on punching and kicking rocks, but on bucking the earth and breaking peoples' connection. Toph's bending style is based on Chu Gar (southern praying mantis style). In general, earthbending is rooted in the Hung Gar style of kung fu. Fun fact: Originally Toph was going to be a 16 year old boy named Sud Did you know: Toph can feel the earth even if it isn't connected to the ground.
Toph is amazing. The original earth bending master was supposed to be some big buff guy. But Toph a small blind girl is so cool. How she sees, via vibrations she feels through earth bending is amazing.
Just for clarification, the Fire Nation Man was from the Earth Kingdom. A foreign (usually Russian) bad guy was a popular trope in Professional Wrestling. Still is, but it's much less offensive.
I love toph, and she is not the "token disable person" she is strong and yes she has a disability and her earthbending compensates for that but it doesn't completely erase the fact she is blind, she can see in earth, but she can't read a book or see something that is flying like the belt, it makes her feel real and not just a powerful been
Yes, the best part of her character is that she gets scared. She tries to avoid places where her bending doesn't help her. She tells the rest of the team to go on and she will find another place to be useful. They make her an incredible asset to the team, but she can't carry or even help in every situation.
@@fredrice8650The best part is that nobody else on the team ever remembers that she is blind, because she is just so good at everything that she can do.
Toph's family has a very high society image to maintain, anything that falls out of line has to be swept under the rug and kept out of sight. Toph being herself, unfortunately, does not fit within that image. But the saddest part is as much as the parents think secluding her is for her own good, it's really for theirs. Additionally, we saw in this episode, they are a very rich family and are ripe targets for kidnap and randsom, especially if the public found out about their blind daughter.🤷♀️
Fun fact: They actually wanted to get The Rock to voice The Boulder, being a clear parody of his character. However, he was busy. So they settled for the hardcore legend himself, Mick Foley, who happened to be pretty close with him on screen once upon a time. (See Rock 'n' Sock Connection)
Toph is the only child of bei fong family an elite class and doesn't want to loose their only heir to their conglomerate and be taken by anybody. They love her but not to extent that they will let loose of their fortune by letting her go. They want her to succed them and be the best version of themselves.
The fire nation guy isn't fire nation at all, he's what you call a heel. He is the scripted bad guy the audience is supposed to hate. He's an earth bender pretending to be fire nation. Whole episode is inspired by wwe style wrestling .
Avatar day highly underrated. Its gets forgotten next to episode 6and 7. I love the humor, the world building is cute. I love relationship counciling scene. And of course the Queen Kyoshi! Oh and there is the Zuko Iroh stuff. Never forget the B plot.
You are absolutely going to love toph. She was originally going to be a big muscly man, like the Boulder, but then the writers decides to put that personality inside a blind 10 year old.
If you liked Kyoshi and like to read there are two books our about her early years as the Avatar. And they don't spoil anything for the show because they take place 400 years before it.
23:47: It's Mistress Katara, who wields the "Water Whip" and has Momo as her gimp. She also has a very "icey" demeanor. You don't mess with Mistress Katara!
it s not a fire nation soldier. that tournament is the representation of professional wrestling. that guy is an earthbender portraying a heel given that the fire nation soldiers are hated by the earth kingdom
Fun fact! There is actually a very specific reason as to why Kyoshi used those fans. Apparently, Kyoshi was IMMENSELY powerful (even for an avatar), and she used those fans to help her focus her power, because it was actually really difficult for her to not end up destroying something by accident. Kyoshi was such a boss.
Spoilers (not important though) When Sokka says to imagine Aang losing his arrow and Katara losing her "hair loopies" they both actually "lose" those for much of the early half of Season 3.
18:51 well to be fair, considering people place themselves on outside of turns at rally stages, I do fully expect people to just sit front row on a contest where 2 ton rocks are flying around Btw Aang technically lost against Toph because he cheated, it's an earthbending competition
"We've got a Fire Nation person invading an Earthbeding tournament?" I think Earth Rumble is meant to be similar to real-life WWE wrestling, where one fighter may be the designated Heel for the audience to root against. Doesn't mean they are actually Fire Nation.
THe "Fire nation guy" was an earth bender so yeah.
That's why Fire Nation Man had a Russian accent, as a reference to Nikolai Volkoff.
"Boomerang! You do always come back!" That's always been one of my favorite Sokka lines.
I’m glad that she likes Toph. I know I haven’t heard of anybody who doesn’t like Toph, but it still makes me happy.
The only times Iv heard people not liking tough is the ones who don’t like her personality cause they think she’s too intense for them. Which is fine.😭💀but still confuses me cause we have way more intense characters and yet they don’t be liking tough

I remember when he was just plain George. The spiders creep me out but at least he has somewhere to live.
Oh, you guys know George too? I'm sorry I didn't know to contact you. I and some of George's other friends and loved ones actually had an intervention for him a few weeks ago. It didn't go well. I came here to say this but knew in my heart that it had already been said
The spiders thing is a wives tale like the boogeyman but for some reason adults swear by it
@@ILikeCHEEZ9 Exactly.
Honestly spiders have been on the planet for millions of years. To have lasted that long they clearly have enough of a survival instinct to not go into a large animal's mouth.
Iroh is the best. He knows, he doesnt judge, he lets you make your mistakes, but stands by and supports you.

Melon really be that person who's like, "wrestling _is_ real!"
The main cast is SO good. Toph is such a perfect addition to the team.
Toph is easily one of the best characters in Avatar.
God tier of all cartoons characters
FACTS
One of the best characters ever.
She's my second favourite after Azula.
Iroh and Zuko would be higher on my list but shes up there!

They always say you eat however many spiders in your sleep but they never mention the thing that feeds them to you.
Toph is easily my favorite character in Avatar.
I love how almost every second Zuko on screen, something happening with his character development.
13:30 "And I've certainly never used violence to take a life."
Toph made earthbending so much cooler than it already was
Just for clarification, the Fire Nation Man was from the Earth Kingdom. A foreign (usually Russian) bad guy was a popular trope in Professional Wrestling. Still is, but it's much less offensive.
Fire nation man is a heel character, so he's not really fire nation, he's just there to be an antagonist
The fire nation man is an earth bender. Hes an actor playing a part known as a heel or bad guy

The greatest earth bender to ever live and she lives up to that
The mayor of the town also plays Kungfu Panda's goose father. He sounded so familiar to me just now, I had to look it up

I know we're all excited for Toph, but let's give a shout out to Kyoshi and boomerang!
hell yeah, Avatar Kyoshi! Our badass Earth Avatar!
"Hey Melon its guys here" 😂
Toph is the greatest Earthbender in the world! Don't ever forget it!
The fire nation guy isn't fire nation at all, he's what you call a heel. He is the scripted bad guy the audience is supposed to hate. He's an earth bender pretending to be fire nation.

So glad youre still kinda early in this series it only gets better and better😊
21:59 - 22:04 That split 💀🤣 Still hilarious
The Boulder: *OOOOOOOOOH…!!!*
"Toph is so cool" I knew you would dig her 😊
This is what i consider the true turning point of the series. It's only up from here.
Toph is hands down my fav in the show.
Toph is such a GREAT character. THIS is how you write a "physically challenged" character. You'll have SO much fun with Toph
Fire Nation Man is actually an earthbender playing the role of a fire nation sympathiser🤣
Toph is really the best ... you will love her even more as time goes on !!
Iroh wants zuko to make mistakes and learn because he knows he s too stuborn to listen to him.
It s always the hard way for zuko
Toph - The greatest Earth Bender and one of the best characters of all time!
Avatar day highly underrated. Its gets forgotten next to episode 6and 7.

Oh and there is the Zuko Iroh stuff. Never forget the B plot.
You can feel how season 2 is getting better and better! Great reaction. I’m still here as O said at the first chapter! ❤❤❤❤

YES! TOPH IS FINALLY HERE! BEST CHARACTER IN ATLA!!!!!
Somebody hasn't heard of the outlier, Spiders Georg.
Really enjoy these. Thanks for doing them for us
You are absolutely going to love toph. She was originally going to be a big muscly man, like the Boulder, but then the writers decides to put that personality inside a blind 10 year old.
12. She’s as old as Aang.
She’s 12, same age as Aang
I had to do a double-take when you compared Toph to a Teletubbie 😂
Kinda crazy to say after knowing her character now lmaoo😂 but that was my first impression
If you liked Kyoshi and like to read there are two books our about her early years as the Avatar. And they don't spoil anything for the show because they take place 400 years before it.

Melon meets Toph....the real star of the show. Respect Queen Toph.
Can't wait til she meets the true evil in season 3. 😜
I'm pretty sure that guy in the tournament wasn't really Fire Nation
Yeah that guy was just the heel. The wrestling villain that the crowd is supposed to hate
Oh lmaooooo I had no idea

And to think, you called Toph "Ms Teehee" (I believe) in that forest alive episode lol. I knew you'd enjoy her character! 😄
A free like for "without any milk" awesome

I see the Melon Lord has arrived
