This song always reminds me of the TV Series WKRP in Cincinnati as they used to use what was popular at the time for scenes in the DJ booth and this was one of them (they never secured the rights for redistribution so if you get box sets or see episodes on streaming services all the songs have been changed from the originals).
This is actually my favourite Max Webster song as it has what I can best describe as atmosphere. It is one of those songs that if you put on headphones and just lay down in a pitch-black room it kind of takes you away with those keyboard effects almost like a sensory deprivation experience.

This song alone should have launched them internationally. Extremely underrated band. Kim Mitchell is a monster guitar player. Too bad they never got out of Canada like the Guess Who and Rush did years earlier. Good late 70s contemporary sound... High Class in Borrowed Shoes was a rare A thru Z kick ass album. Don't know why they didn't emerge like they should have.

I heard, and I cannot recall from what exact source, that Kim did not want to give in to American Record companies demands. A control issue. I love that they had the integrity to do that, but hate that there may have been so much more.

Watkinson and Tilka formed the band Antlers, mostly playing Max Webster songs and classic rock covers.
Around 2011, went to a bar in Toronto area called Scarborough and these guys were the band with Frank Soda on guitar.
It sounded like Max Webster to the T.
40 people in the bar watching awesome music.

Max Webster came to my high around '77 or '78. It was my first time ever them. The one thing I remember was ....I don't think Terry Watkinson was feeling any pain that night.....

Saw them open for Rush in 1977 Toronto CNE exhibition. Holy shit! Sweet memories.

Great tune. Can't go wrong with Max Webster. Saw them at the CNE in Canada open for Genesis in I think 78. Both bass players in Max I thought were phenomenal.

This is one of those songs when I hear it, I immediately think of the 1970s although it was late 70s. To me, a 70s rock sound that takes me home.

Yup, was on the radio in my younger days.
Never realized how much it sounded like some of ELO's tracks from Xanadu

This is a beautiful song. I only recently figured out what this was about and I was shocked. The girl he is singing to is dead, and I think he is a circus performer, a clown who walks a tightrope every night and so the phrase 'All I know is that tonight I might go the line..let go the line' takes on a whole new meaning...
I guess he is considering suicide..
Heavy theme for what became their chart topping single, Lol..

This was their highest charting song. I heard on radio around 79/80 that its high charting, led to Kim Mitchell having a bit of a fit. He didn't write or sing.
