    Scott is a firefighter who I've known through Garage Gym Reviews for a few years now. We went and visited his garage gym (video in the works) and then checked out the gym that was built at his firehouse. It's basically a home gym for guys that stay overnight at the firehouse. Great equipment and a cool atmosphere.
    Shout Out to PRx Performance for sponsoring the trip ✊🏼

    Sweet setup. Basically just a private commercial gym. The reasoning behind the sauna is very cool as well. I've never been a fan of that locking bench system. They're always touchy and a pain to align the bench properly. And usually even when you get the bench set properly it still is a bit wobbly from side to side (in my experience).

    Good walk-through and explanation of the equipment. Might be a bit personal to cover on camera, but I would be interested to hear about how the firefighting team came up with the budget to purchase the equipment. I’m sure it was a business expense that’s tax deductible.

    Hammer strength has been owned for a very long time by life fitness largest exercise equipment company in the world... Not a huge fan of most of their stuff but I do have a hammer 4 way neck machine in home gym. Wish Rogue would abandon the walk through design of their racks and make a lower crossmember into their racks modeled after hammer. Hammer also add extra bracing which makes their racks very rigid and rock solid. Their hope spacing etc is awful though.

    • @GarageGymReviews
      @GarageGymReviews  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      You're right, they are extremely solid, in part due to the lower crossmember. It would be nice for Rogue to at least offer an attachment similar to that.

    Paramedic: Books on at 06:00, gets hammered for 14 hours with no break. Fire: Books on at 06:00, has breakfast, chills out, works out, has lunch, does some drills. Books off. We had a gym at our station - it gathered dust. Guess which of the above I do for a job.
    Joking aside, Fire do a very challenging job when they do go out. We started to task them to Cat As but afert 6 months they retracted the contract.

Due to some reason, I had to change my gym and my new gym had Hammer Strength Rack (Hammer Strength HD Elite Power Rack). Boy oh boy was I wrong. That Hammer Strength Rack is HEAVY DUTY. I’ve always wondered how firefighters manage/time their heavy workouts when on shift considering a call could come in at anytime. For example, it would be sub optimal to be partway through sets of heavy squats and then get called out to a fire and have to climb six stories worth of steps. Do the workouts get saveD to the end of the shift? Are they light on duty days and heavy off days?

    • @davidevanflores9638
      @davidevanflores9638 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It can be difficult to get a good workout in for that reason. I used to try to get my workouts done at the station no matter what, but sometimes it was stressful, and a waste of time. What I do now is I do all of my workouts on my days off. I get 4 days off in a row, and I do my main workouts then. At work I do accessory work with bands or really light weights. Lots of guys do things differently, but most guys I work who are serious about fitness workout off duty.

      No it's stiffer but the spacing for safeties is awful. Very hard to ubrack a bench press with the j cups on hammer without a spotter. If want a tank of a rack there are better options... The number one that is beefy as hell more so than hammer and still maintains good hole spacing, 2 inches...is dynamic equipment... Their high end racks are 5x3 7g with 2 inch spacing. Many companoes make racks as beefy or beefier than hammer but they all have the same issue 3 to 4 inches for the safeties and J cups.
      I have a monster rack and I ended up bolting to the concrete, added a lower crossmmber to the back, bolted the feet as well and have two 3x3 crossmembers to the top... It's a tank now. No rack will be super stable side to side and for dips etc if there is no Lower crossmember... That's goes for sorinex rogue elite etc. Just physics. That goes even when bolted... Hammer would be good if using only as a squat rack but if using for bench or military there are much better choices. They do offer alot of attachments but you won't see them in gyms. Gyms don't want thir racks being tied doing things that can be better done elsewhere in a commercial setting... If don't care aboht spacing the heaviest racks are made by prime steel, rogers athletic, power lift, Samson and to a lesser extent legend fitness. Dynamic as rugged as listed above but does have 2 inch slotted racking system..

      Modern firehouses in areas staffed with fully professional (non-volunteer) firefighters are typically always built with gyms. Our current facilities were constructed using bonds that are being successfully repaid in addition to grants.

    • @eduardoschoen7239

      Fitness is not optional in the fire service and a gym is not a perk like those found in some typical office jobs.
