@@shanebrohm7786 I’m not acting like anything - first off all, marner has never hit 100 points. Secondly, Matthews is hardly “just an offensive threat” - he’s pretty dang good defensively himself, plays the more important position, and scores way more goals. Last I checked those were harder to come by than assists. Marner is a fine player but he is not worth Matthews dollars in the current financial landscape
Marner is worth at least 12 million. His and Nylanders career high in goals are only 5 goals apart, he's one of the best defensive forwards in the league, not to mention a top 5 playermaker. I can't think of one thing outside of goals that Nylander is better at than Marner @stug5041

Ridiculous the leafs will still have the same problems as always. We never ever learn. 13 million for someone who is not capable of performing in the playoffs is insanity. 9 years of only scoring playoff points when the games are out of reach will never win you anything. Stop this talk
The salary cap may in fact be on the verge of a substantial increase but so too will be the dollars thrown at free agents rising at the same time. If Toronto pays market value for both Marner and Tavares, they will be only slightly better off than they were during the flat cap era with their unworkable top heavy cap structure. The Leafs have already demonstrated that filling out the rest of the roster with cheap help will never build a contender. Both Marner and Tavares are hometown boys who have expressed a desire to stay in Toronto.....that has to be worth something to them.
Assuming I can have these players at the pinnacle of their careers no matter what team they played for at that specific time (because you didn't stipulate that I couldn't): Gilmour, Sundin, Mogilny, Matthews, Roberts, Clark Leetch, Housley, Ellett, Murphy Belfour, Joseph
Yea exactly. Wait til after the playoffs to make a decision. He will get the bag for sure from someone like Columbus but the leafs can give that 8th year. But if he flops again in April, then it is time to move on.
Marners not resigning in Toronto. He’s leaving July 1st and it’s the media and fans fault. They blamed it all on him so this will be his F you to them when he signs for 14 million somewhere else.
I like the player but even ROR said it was too much playing for the leafs with all the hype, media and scrutiny that came with it. If he was made to come back who knows what that does to him considering he loves the laid back nature of playing on the Preds. As a player tho I’d want him too
@ I think if he doesn’t have an NTC, and I bet he does, he would give it his all - character guy - but yah I get he wouldn’t choose to be here. He’s what they need thou
I love how quickly it went from “the leafs have to shake up the core and move on from Marner” to “it’s a no brainer that the leafs are going to re-sign Marner, and that’s a good thing!”
Apparently last night during the Avs-knights game they kept mentioning that they should trade Marner for Rantanan. Which as an Avs fan is like wtf not a chance 😂

Thats his market price. The Blue Jackets would easily offer that if not more. But I think Treliving is smart enough to not do that unless he has an insane playoffs.
@@crushdavis7048 sure but why would anyone want to play in Columbus. He wants to be seen as a god. He won't be there. Also no playoffs but that may be what he wants an early summer break.
