It's probably because his voice actor died, and the people don't want to ruin his image? but in reverse they ruined it. I like Tien, he knows he is no match compared to his opponents like Krillin, and still fights trying to protect the world.

There's this long-standing misconception that every time a character's VA dies in Japan, said character is retired. That's not really the case. Recasts happen there all the time, not just due to actors dying either.
Making him Roshi's successor would've been a good route for the character. He's the only human character shown to use the ECW, and also had a Buff form in the Cell saga.

Goku in particular embodies Roshi's teachings better than anyone else in the franchise, and even after everything, he still wears the turtle school gi. Just because he's a Saiyan doesn't make him less of Roshi's student, or less of a worthy successor. The Saiyan arc is all about how he's an Earthling first, and a Saiyan second. I'd be all for Tien having more relevance, but if you're going to have Tien "succeed" something, I'd have him reform the Crane school for good, instead of encroaching on someone else's turf. (Also Tien never actually learned the buff form lol, he was just jacked)

I like for each Earthling to have its own niche. Tien is the technique master, perfect classical martial artist. Yamcha as the modern/sport one, i read on the wiki he enjoys grappling,he could be the grappling specialist, maybe to attempt to fight opponents so much stronger. DBZ is mostly striking after all,a good 40 of hand to hand is missing. Chiaotzu could focus more on his powers,when introduced he was supposed to be a gunboat, firing beams in succession. But now every energy tank is miles bigger. It could be the chance to explore PSI powers vs ki ,telekinesis or hypnosis like we have seen a couple of times. A different kind of energy,like when facing Moro Yajirobe is the only one with a sword(used to,now there is Trunks),he could explore armed combat, ki enhanced slashes like Budokai. It has shown to be effective against enemies magnitude stronger. Kriliin still no clue,he would be the strongest earthling Maybe a spin off all about the humans would be nice,even something like a one shot.
I personally really love the idea of Krillin being an unorthodox, tricky, ki user. Way back in og dragon ball he was a sneaky little twerp who tried to cheat to beat Goku and he beat Chiaotzu by tripping him up with math problems since he couldn't martially beat him. They kinda started to lean into this in early Z with him creating the scatter bullet, destructo disk, and mastering masking his ki pretty quickly. It's unfortunate they left that idea behind because it would have been really cool to see all the unorthodox uses of ki he could have come up with.

I watched OG dragon ball first and tien was my favourite character, in Z i was hyped to see what he would do and was pretty hyped with his last stand against nappa even though he got cooked, I was excited thinking he would arrive in namek and fight Frieza with gohan, piccolo and vegeta, maybe using his third eye. He never showed up. I was excited in the android saga and it was mostly fulfilled when he stalled cell, i thought maybe he could actually become a top tier up with piccolo and vegeta and return to his spot as gokus rival, but it never developed. I got excited in buu for similar reasons, but it was at this point he was washed. In super they did nothing with him and took his title as strongest human from him, and now with all this hakaishin and angel shenanigans, he stands no chance. A moment of silence for tien.
I know its not canon but let me remind you that in the Bojack movie he pushes Trunks (After training for Cell) to go Super Sayan against him. If youre a Human and push a Sayan to go Super Sayan you already won.
He did not have a character arc since his introduction. Even though he is one of the most experienced of all the Z-Fighters. I feel like he is the exact opposite of Gohan at this point.
Honestly only a few changes need to be made for the humans to have some spotlight without affecting the plot. Have em learn kaioken while on king kais. Tien gets his moment against semi perfect cell. Have krillin and yamcha encounter imperfect cell after piccolo because he wants their ki. Have em use clever techniques and combos to injure him and flee. Then in buu, tien is training for the martial arts tournament. Since hes been training for 7 years, he has a noticeable Ki and gets attacked by dabura. Have him put up a fight, lose, get his energy stolen, then stoned which explains why hes not involved for a bit. Buu has an issue with lack of minor antagonists so keep dabura around slightly longer, and piccolo and krillin together as revenge for becoming stones and a throwback to their teamup vs nappa. take him down while gohan fights buu. Tien reunites with em. Then all the z fighters could pass in fighting skills and techniques to goten and trunks. They have a last stand against super buu when piccolo and gotenks are trapped. Have gotenks be slightly weaker than buu but Using his techniques be able to win. Yeah that was a long ahh comment and thanks to anyone that read it
I always thought it was a waste that Tien didn’t learn the Kaioken in his time on King Kai’s planet as a way of keeping up. As a techniques master, it’d make sense for him to pick it up while the other humans didn’t/couldn’t
You don't like the new look for Tenshinhan? That's shocking. I thought it looked badass and made him stand out from the rest of the Z fighters with how new he looked. Honesty tied for his Buu saga outfit.
I played him in dragon ball fighterz, and his baggy clothing just feel off, when all of his iconic moments are from the shirtless look, the super outfit just reminds me of how dirty super did him
how is roshi supposed to grow? He is already reached the end of his personal journey and gave all he knew to the newer generation to help them on their journey. Unless he discovers a new purpose I don't see it happening
Replace Roshi with Chiaotzu. Roshi retired and passed on the torch in the original DB, but he still has a big bag of tricks and plenty of advice, that's what his role should be.

I’d love to see more done with Tenshinhan and Yamucha I do not mind what Super did with Tenshinhan outside of Roshi beating him. I certainly do not prefer him in GT because he did nothing. Tein is the single most wasted character in all of dragon ball not because he could have been strong but because he already had all the power he needed. Actually Tiens clothes and fighting style represents Manchu, north of China ( look at photos of last Chinese emperor). While Goku is inspired with Chinese myth of Sun Wukong. And the turtle and Crane are styles of Kung-Fu. So saying "Goku represents Japan" is kinda stupid. Also his orange or red Gi refers to Buddhist monks.
Nah they probably left him out because he's a side character and a human so he can't really do that much against people the stronger characters. Sayian armor is inspired by the sleeveless armor samurai wore in China and Goku himself is inspired by Chinese culture so they just kicked him out because no is sadly buying an Tien figure when Goku and Vegeta figures are their to buy.
He also has some of the best techniques in the series but now a days it's just tri-beam over and over again. If we get lucky he might get two extra arms.
I actually really like Tien's outfit in super! I think it help's show him as a literal MASTER Martial artist as when we see him later he has his own dojo! I love the fit and the color scheme! Can't really see him being a teacher while being shirtless the whole time idk. Plus I always love when characters get new unique designs. Tien's shirtless look got kinda old after awhile (although it is really good i agree)

All of it clearly is a choice and in conjunction with Super primarily. Z, like you said, is something to imagine about how strong he might've already been with how the series' power creep works. But in Super they could've easily brought him back into the picture with the excuse that he finally used resources available to him. The time chamber, maybe training with king & supreme kai or developing his techniques. Rather sad that it's gotten to this when he's kind of a mirror of Goku.
One of my favorite characters and the guy really had a lot to explore. Sadly, he got shafted after DB for absolutely no reason. Imo he should've been at LEAST as important as Piccolo.

First of all great video. There are few things I want to talk about: 1.Tenshinhan & Chaozu are my favorites in the whole of the DB franchise. 2.In the Japanese anime M. Roshi says that the Dodonpa is way more powerful than the Kamehameha. 3.I don't know where does the name "Tri-Beam Canon" comes from. Originally the name is Kikoho which means "Spirit Cultivation Gun/Canon." So calling it "The Spirit Canon" in the title episode of it's first appearance is pretty accurate. 4.M. Roshi is no joke but I agree Tenshinhan is much stronger by that time. The garbage show DBS did him among other characters dirty. Fun fact- Urin uses the Jiang-Shi magic. Jiang-Shi are a form of magical Vampires in Chinese mythology. Chaozu is heavily based on that creature.
Dragon ball Super did Tien more dirty than all the previous series combined. They really showed their disdain for the character that they didn't need to write-in in the first place. Meanwhile Roshi, who wouldn't even be strong enough to kill King Piccolo, is doing stuff that there's no way he should be capable of doing. Taking on a legion of Frieza soldiers by himself, beating Tien, using the evil containment wave multiple times without dying. It all only further highlighted their disrespect of Tien.
I think one major attribute for side characters and past foes/rivals in Shonen is that some may work better when they’re compartmented into their own arcs and scenarios after their big debuts. This too may have its flaws, MHA comes immediately to mind for example, but other examples like keeping their powers distinct enough to work in the team effort would also be a good way to avoid this issue. Tien was always a real one though and despite not being able to be relevant much past Saiyan Saga, I always loved his unique moves and use of Ki in conparison to Goku.
I love Dragon Ball. I obviously grew up with DBZ as did most. (and the limited on air run of OG) Watching the entire original series of Dragon Ball. I can safely say that had I grown up in Japan with Dragon Ball... I may have dropped the series early namek. Not joking... and it's because all your favorite characters think about this from that perspective you've seen grow up, got killed unceremoniously by ONE guy. (or a saibamen)
His stoic sometimes sassy personality is supposed to comedically bounce off of Chiaotzu's stupidity and childishness. But because Toriyama didn't know what to do with Chiaotzu, eventually making him borderline mute(he rarely speaks after the tournament) Tien's personality suffered.
I always thought that Tien and Krillin were approximately around the same power level after Frieza/going into the Android Saga. I was hoping that he and Chiaotzu would use the potara earrings in Super after it was revealed that the fusion isn't permanent.
Tien is personally one of my favorite characters lately when I was a kid, as you said at the start of the video I never really put much attention to him besides the semi perfect cell moment wich I always thought it was cool but since I started to pay more attention to him lately, i realized he is basically every thing dragon ball used to represent, he is the only one who gets all, and i mean all of his strength from hard work and training, he's always willing to risk his life even with threts that are far above him and yet he is still weaker than fuckin krillin, even tho krillin got a power up in namek tien should still be stronger, he trained with kami for long enough to lern the kaioken wich i will never forgive that he didnt use in the TOP, it would have been the biggest plot twist, but ends up getting far behind because he doesnt have any sayian transformation or namekian fusions the only thing they dont forget about him are his techniques which are basically the most advantageous tactically tien is og dragon ball, simple as that
To be honest, the humans have always shown superior Ki Control and techniques compared to saiyans. They display the ability to easily control and concentrate ki (the Kikoho, the Sokidan, Krillins double Tsubikidan, Krillins Scatter shot, the multi form, the refined shin Kikoho, the kienzan, the homing scattering kienzans, the x100 solar flare, Roshis faux ultra instinct, Krillins selflessness state) these display the capacity to control their ki to such an extent that they are the only ones to be able to take down oponnents hundreds or even thousand of times stronger than their base power (a feat no saiyan or half saiyan can ever achieve, and not even the prodigy of the namekian race, Piccolo). Tien managed to push Trunks to go into Super Saiyan, and Krillin managed to push Goku into Super Saiyan (pushed off the ring wouldve still meant losing), and all of these DESPITE the base form of the saiyans being superior to the base form of the humans. And this to me proves that 9 out of 10 times if you restrain the power of the saiyans to the same level as the humans the humans will win. A shame Roshi didnt teach them the basis for ultra instinct.
imo he wasn't done dirty until super he didn't do much in z but he isn't the talkative type that makes sense he does something every fight he does join in though. like compare him to yamcha or krillin krillin does non fighting stuff in future arc sure but he kind just becomes he died guy and yamcha was always the poor dolt I don't even know why he kept fighting after he got to west city. for super it's just that they hate china they can hide goku and krillin being chinese but tien was too on the nose.

Tenshinhan is the actual name in japanese and is also used in some other dubs, like Latin American Spanish. I think it was changed in English because they thought it was too long for a name, which for me is quite stupid.
@cruzdesangre2850 Don't know if it's correct, but I remember reading somewhere that one of the reasons they changed it is because Chaozu calls him "Ten-san" in Japanese. To match the animation they changed the name to "Tien".
Super is just a complete trainwreck. Fan fiction for the latin American audience. I used to tune in with others to literally laugh at how much of a dumpster fire it was every week. I love the fit and the color scheme! Can't really see him being a teacher while being shirtless the whole time idk. Plus I always love when characters get new unique designs.
Tien's shirtless look got kinda old after awhile (although it is really good i agree)

yeah the person who loves roshi isnt an anime staff member its toyotaro tye effective number 2 guy under toriyama at the time roshi is his all time favorite character and he glazes him like crazy roshi is probably the number 2 human at the moment with them still respecting toriyamas statement that krillin is the strongest human

All of it clearly is a choice and in conjunction with Super primarily. Z, like you said, is something to imagine about how strong he might've already been with how the series' power creep works. But in Super they could've easily brought him back into the picture with the excuse that he finally used resources available to him. The time chamber, maybe training with king & supreme kai or developing his techniques. Rather sad that it's gotten to this when he's kind of a mirror of Goku.
One of my favorite characters and the guy really had a lot to explore. Sadly, he got shafted after DB for absolutely no reason. Imo he should've been at LEAST as important as Piccolo.
Master Roshi facing Jiren but Tien not even being able to beat fodder is just disrespectful, and even before that he got obliterated by Master Roshi, he trained all his life, yet he got beaten by off screen training, I would be inclined to believe it's because Japanese hate the Chinesse, so Tien being based on a monk...

First of all great video. There are few things I want to talk about: 1.Tenshinhan & Chaozu are my favorites in the whole of the DB franchise. 2.In the Japanese anime M. Roshi says that the Dodonpa is way more powerful than the Kamehameha. 3.I don't know where does the name "Tri-Beam Canon" comes from. Originally the name is Kikoho which means "Spirit Cultivation Gun/Canon." So calling it "The Spirit Canon" in the title episode of it's first appearance is pretty accurate. 4.M. Roshi is no joke but I agree Tenshinhan is much stronger by that time. The garbage show DBS did him among other characters dirty. Fun fact- Urin uses the Jiang-Shi magic. Jiang-Shi are a form of magical Vampires in Chinese mythology. Chaozu is heavily based on that creature.
Dragon ball Super did Tien more dirty than all the previous series combined. They really showed their disdain for the character that they didn't need to write-in in the first place. Meanwhile Roshi, who wouldn't even be strong enough to kill King Piccolo, is doing stuff that there's no way he should be capable of doing. Taking on a legion of Frieza soldiers by himself, beating Tien, using the evil containment wave multiple times without dying.
It all only further highlighted their disrespect of Tien.
I think one major attribute for side characters and past foes/rivals in Shonen is that some may work better when they’re compartmented into their own arcs and scenarios after their big debuts. This too may have its flaws, MHA comes immediately to mind for example, but other examples like keeping their powers distinct enough to work in the team effort would also be a good way to avoid this issue.
Tien was always a real one though and despite not being able to be relevant much past Saiyan Saga, I always loved his unique moves and use of Ki in conparison to Goku.
In the super manga he just got taken out by Frost before doing anything

Watching the entire original series of Dragon Ball. I can safely say that had I grown up in Japan with Dragon Ball... I may have dropped the series early namek. Not joking... and it's because all your favorite characters think about this from that perspective you've seen grow up, got killed unceremoniously by ONE guy. (or a saibamen)
the biggest issue with tien is that he's kinda just a bland character in terms of personality and the writers don't wanna do jackshit with him
I don't agree that he's bland, he just completed his character arc I like his relationship with chaozu
the only bland characters i had seen there are Yagirobe and Oolong
His stoic sometimes sassy personality is supposed to comedically bounce off of Chiaotzu's stupidity and childishness. But because Toriyama didn't know what to do with Chiaotzu, eventually making him borderline mute(he rarely speaks after the tournament) Tien's personality suffered.

I always thought that Tien and Krillin were approximately around the same power level after Frieza/going into the Android Saga. I was hoping that he and Chiaotzu would use the potara earrings in Super after it was revealed that the fusion isn't permanent.
Maybe at that point they were equal, but after krillin retired and tien kept grinding, tien was absolutely stronger

Tien is personally one of my favorite characters lately when I was a kid, as you said at the start of the video I never really put much attention to him besides the semi perfect cell moment wich I always thought it was cool but since I started to pay more attention to him lately, i realized he is basically every thing dragon ball used to represent, he is the only one who gets all, and i mean all of his strength from hard work and training, he's always willing to risk his life even with threts that are far above him and yet he is still weaker than fuckin krillin, even tho krillin got a power up in namek tien should still be stronger, he trained with kami for long enough to lern the kaioken wich i will never forgive that he didnt use in the TOP, it would have been the biggest plot twist, but ends up getting far behind because he doesnt have any sayian transformation or namekian fusions the only thing they dont forget about him are his techniques which are basically the most advantageous tactically

To be honest, the humans have always shown superior Ki Control and techniques compared to saiyans. They display the ability to easily control and concentrate ki (the Kikoho, the Sokidan, Krillins double Tsubikidan, Krillins Scatter shot, the multi form, the refined shin Kikoho, the kienzan, the homing scattering kienzans, the x100 solar flare, Roshis faux ultra instinct, Krillins selflessness state) these display the capacity to control their ki to such an extent that they are the only ones to be able to take down oponnents hundreds or even thousand of times stronger than their base power (a feat no saiyan or half saiyan can ever achieve, and not even the prodigy of the namekian race, Piccolo). Tien managed to push Trunks to go into Super Saiyan, and Krillin managed to push Goku into Super Saiyan (pushed off the ring wouldve still meant losing), and all of these DESPITE the base form of the saiyans being superior to the base form of the humans. And this to me proves that 9 out of 10 times if you restrain the power of the saiyans to the same level as the humans the humans will win. A shame Roshi didnt teach them the basis for ultra instinct.

imo he wasn't done dirty until super he didn't do much in z but he isn't the talkative type that makes sense he does something every fight he does join in though. like compare him to yamcha or krillin krillin does non fighting stuff in future arc sure but he kind just becomes he died guy and yamcha was always the poor dolt I don't even know why he kept fighting after he got to west city. for super it's just that they hate china they can hide goku and krillin being chinese but tien was too on the nose.

what i dont get is how the truck changed the outcome of their fight in the tournament. if anything, the truck kept goku in the air even longer.

As far as I know, only videogames ever mangled his name into "Tienshinhan."
He was called "Tien Shinhan" in the Funimation dub of Dragon Ball too.
Tenshinhan is the actual name in japanese and is also used in some other dubs, like Latin American Spanish. I think it was changed in English because they thought it was too long for a name, which for me is quite stupid.
@cruzdesangre2850 Don't know if it's correct, but I remember reading somewhere that one of the reasons they changed it is because Chaozu calls him "Ten-san" in Japanese. To match the animation they changed the name to "Tien".

Super is just a complete trainwreck. Fan fiction for the latin American audience. I used to tune in with others to literally laugh at how much of a dumpster fire it was every week. The value of that show is actually in how absurdly stupid it is, you will never get anywhere if you expect anything from that absolute travesty. Instead of being insulted and disgusted, just learn to laugh at it.
