I recently started one for myself after realizing that I had already done it a couple times before without realizing. I kept a journal of lyrics I copied from favorite songs when I was a teenager. I kept a notebook of all episodes of anime to keep track of where I was and where in each arc I was or where I followed along with the manga. I kept a binder of all the crochet patterns I used. My therapist had me keep a journal with not just my thoughts, but quotes or excerpts from books or songs that maybe resonated with me each day. I also took notes on different research on my diagnosis or notes about my sessions, etc.
Thanks for this excellent video! I'm just getting my commonplace notebook started (though I've kept a reading notebook for years). (And I share your fascination with The Unbearable Lightness of Being!)
This was interesting to watch. Like you mentioned, I’m having that problem where I’m not sure how I want to categorize my sections, but I’m just writing in it first and taking it slowly like you said lol.
I think we all who love journaling have done common placing one way or the other even without us knowing it, anyways I'm thinking of using a dated Hobonichi A6 or A5 as a common place where I use for example ( the month of January is for health / Feb : books / March : courses) and this is just an example but I can use the pages at the beginning as an index of the topics mentioned. I hope you got what I mean.
Yes I think that can be true. It really depends on how you use your notes. One approach I tried for a while is just taking pictures of my bound book notes and making them searchable in a digital tool.
that was a very friendly video! but I'm an index hater so let's get started lol I consider an index to be really high level and only for if the knowledge is already nearly completely solidified. It can be good; but, I'm quite confused as to why people start with it. Why start with the most advanced tagging system when there isn't any writing yet? I (started with Locke and) tried to force the index and it drove me so crazy! Exactly what you said - I ended up working on an index rather than taking notes. btw your accent sounds remarkably similar to a friend of mine haha
Yes I found Lockes system really complicated! I think it's in part because when you see commonplace pages online the tag system is what kinda makes them stand out as commonplace pages so it feels like it's essential to have.
@@the_stationery_writer makes sense! This is unrelated but did you have a favorite part of the book? the one with the title longer than my comment 😂: How Romantics and Victorians Organized Information: Commonplace Books, Scrapbooks, and Albums (Oxford Textual Perspectives) by Jillian M. Hess
@@thepostgradyear Well part 1 is all about organizing ideas which I really enjoyed but I particularly loved the chapter about laboratory commonplace books.
@@the_stationery_writer Was that the one near the beginning where: Davy was like bro I threw stuff on the ground and it was crazy! and Faraday is like SIR please stop shredding your documents! 😭 loved that one 😂
Yes sorry I should have specified! Every year Nagasawa makes a gradation color. That’s this years it’s called Stone Grey. They used to be Japan only but Yoseka carried it this year 🙂

Yay thanks for your comment! I’d love to know your thoughts on my Kundera video if you watch it ☺️
It was great to have a name for what I've been doing in my plotter and to have some insights on the process. Thanks for the video!

That’s great! You can always go back through and categorize things once it’s more full.
Thank you for this! I have a notebook I have been wanting to use, and this will be the perfect use for it. Thank you for explaining ❤️ new sub 🙂

Yes! I have seen people use a dated book and use the dates like an index and I think that’s a really interested approach.
That is a good idea!
Fixed-page notebooks mean good longterm cross references. Slow/annoying to follow the trail, but very simple and reliable.

It’s a Pilot Decimo

Making the narrative more focused and concise would make this video more useful. Cut the clutter, unless it’s deliberately extended.
What’s with Mr. Croissant with the saggy baaalllllls doin’
Holy crap that's expensive
