    Been running the same DPC converter in my 700whp LBZ since 2014. She's still hangin in there, hopefully for at least another 8yrs.

    Can definitely tell ol Phil has been around torque converters for a while for as nonchalantly he broke that one down.

    That may be the most information I have ever got on converters and I now have a clue how they work.

    I love these style videos anytime I can watch and learn even if its just a trick on how to do something differently. I love it. ❤️

    Phil is a great guy! I've known him for many years. When it's time for me to get a new converter, I will without a doubt be getting a DPC converter.

    Phil is awesome ! I run his tripple disk . I've never ran any one else tripple disk but his reputation proceeded him where I don't feel I have to. Customer services is top notch. If I didn't get a great deal on a used armet Input shaft I would of ran his a400.

    Ended up using a Revmax Stage 5 converter in VP truck. Held up good so far. They say its unbreakable. 2 year warranty.

    What are some things that would cause a 48re torque convertor to violently shake(chatter) when transitioning to lock up? Happens every time I merge on freeway have to feather accelerator pedal to get it to stop. Could the lock up clutch be warped or a valve body issue? Its a triple disc DPC.

  • @mxerb5912
    @mxerb5912 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Just installed my firepunk comp 1 with the dpc. The lockup is rather harsh especially into OD. Almost concerning. Just want to make sure that’s normal.

    • @jacobshoot895
      @jacobshoot895 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Very normal, lockup with a triple disc will always be like that especially in dodges.

    • @FirepunkDiesel
      @FirepunkDiesel  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      A 3-4 locked shift is solid/firm. Almost every truck that is "harsh" is fixed by installing traction bars to eliminate axle wrap. We just did one last month that was violent shifting into overdrive, but after installing our traction bar kit, the shift went back to a normal shift feel!

      @@FirepunkDiesel ok thanks. Will it break in a little over time? Not sure if I’m getting used it to or is getting a little smoother. Will an anteater help to smooth it out for daily driving?

    48re question. In 3rd locked, if I give it some throttle i can see the RPM go up, maybe 2 hundred or so. In 4th i cant get the rpm to go up no matter how hard i push on the skinny pedal. I don't feel like its slipping in 3rd, but like the converter isn't completely locked. Truck is 92,xxx miles.

    • @FirepunkDiesel
      @FirepunkDiesel  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      If lockup is on and your getting rpm rise that isn't coralating to increase speed, then you are slipping the lockup clutch, so with a scan tool, watch tcc command and see if it's commanding lockup when your getting rpm rise

    • @timcouch2037
      @timcouch2037 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@FirepunkDiesel Thank you. What would cause it to slip in 3rd and not 4th?

    • @markrich3271
      @markrich3271 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The trans slipping clutches .

  • @ChannelZeroOne
    @ChannelZeroOne 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    How much hard driving can a quad disk take before I should replace it. Hp range is guessed at 700ish. I know if the tc goes it takes out the trans. I would rather drop a trans on a maintenance interval to to just swap a tc than do a rebuild because I went too long.
    There are things I do now to save headaches. Some would argue its a waste of time. Example. On my Hemi Charger, I swap the lifters every 30k so I dont take out a cam shaft. If its ticking the cam is done.

    • @FirepunkDiesel
      @FirepunkDiesel  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      When the lockup clutch starts to wear over years of abuse, lockup will start getting softer as the clutch gets hardened from heat over time. So if you feel lockup getting soft then it is time for a cut/clean/reclutch, but as long as its holding power and locking good, rock on.

    • @ChannelZeroOne
      @ChannelZeroOne 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@FirepunkDiesel I try to rev match before hitting the lock up button so the hit is softer on the trans and the driveline. I watch the heat climb fast if not in lock up and accelerating hard. I worry the fluid stress might cavitate in the tc fins cause piting like a propeller on a boat when you accel too hard. As a guy who has destroyed countless trans I am trying to be better. I love speed, but hate breaking shit. Thats why I try to over engineer what ever I replace.
      To be clear I watch the temps like a hawk. I never let them get past 200 and even then Its very brief. I am probably running too cool. 140ish for the most part unless in stop and go.

    And my converter new well referb chatters in neutral and park and I have no lockup switch wonder why…

    • @FirepunkDiesel
      @FirepunkDiesel  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      a triple disc has a floater plate (that's the clutch disc we showed in the video) so it will make some noise when there is low fluid volume flow in neutral and park. We can modify the vb by drilling a 'line to lube' hole in the vb that allows more fluid flow in neutral and park and it will keep the floater plate from making as much noise, but the compromise is the line to lube hole increases the chances of converter drain back when the truck is parked.

    Not impressed with their shop. Seems a little cave-ish with the lack of good lighting and it seems a bit chaotic and unorganized. But if they are making a quality product with a low failure rate that is what counts.
