  • Musky fly fishing requires some slightly more heavy duty tackle than you may be used to fishing. It is nothing that is too difficult to source. You just need a little knowledge before you head over to your favorite fly fishing shop. Captain Chad Bryson is going to walk you through some set ups, so you will have the intel you need, prior to making a purchase.
    Chad is a highly respected member of the fly fishing industry, as an angler, guide and product development consultant. He has been targeting freshwater apex predators, like brown trout and muskie, for decades and has a specialized set of skills in that vein. His expert knowledge on tackle, tactics, baits, lures and fish behavior make him one of the more qualified fishermen to discuss how to gear up for musky.
    What Chad will be doing in this In The Spread fly fishing video is presenting you with options for selecting a suitable fly fishing rod and reel, musky flies, fly line and leader material.
    When it comes to fly rods and fly reels for musky, Chad will share his suggestions. With rods, you have to think about how much bend you need in the rod. After all, you are going to be casting all day, so you want something the provides a level of comfort. He will discuss graphite qualities and which manufacturers he finds most useful. With fly reels, a primary consideration has to be arbor size. You will learn why this matters.
    With the musky flies, you will get a primer on critical features to look for in the fly tying. How much profile do you need in the water? Should you go with single hook flies or something articulated with multiple hooks? What type of swimming action works well? Chad breaks it all down for you.
    The fly line and leader material can be a hotly debated topic. What Chad tries to do is give you options. What line do you need and how many different types of line are required? You have to think about the depth you will be fishing. Clearly, no river of lake is one consistent depth and musky move throughout the water column. Having a variety of lines, along with rod and reel combos, will benefit you. For leader material, you will learn about various fluorocarbon leaders and wire. Each has its place. Knowing how each performs makes all the difference.
    Take what you need from this fishing video and put together the proper setups for your musky fishing waters. The more you know, the better chance you will have to catch that fish you have been seeking.

      Banyak terima kasih kepada Anda. Olahraga memancing memang luar biasa. Muskie adalah predator air tawar teratas di Amerika Utara. Diberkatilah Anda.

    Great video. Thank you, Chad! Glad I watched your video because everyone on fly fishing forums are all talking about doing perfection loops. I’ve always been doing surgeon knots too like you mention in the video. Would you recommend doubling up on the amount of loops you do with surgeons loop knot or regular surgeons knot? Or two to three would you say be plenty on butt section and wire tippet and Fluoro leader connection? Thank you!

      I would say you should use what works for you. If you haven't experienced any issues with your standard surgeons knot, why mess with it. My game is targeting apex predator fish and I try to keep everything as simple as possible. There is no theoretical reason why you couldn't do more. Go with what you have confidence in, until as fish forces you to alter your ways.

    You talking about having heavier sinking line but then using super long leader. So what does it matter in small streams?

    • @InTheSpread
      @InTheSpread  29 วันที่ผ่านมา

      The leader is 12-18 inches. For times when I use a wire bite, I would tie a longer butt section. What do you mean by small streams?

    12’ leader?

    can you use a Spey rod using SKAGIT casting? I swing big flies for salmon and big steelhead. 400 grain sinking is typical.

    • @InTheSpread
      @InTheSpread  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sure. You really want to get muskie flies down, as the fish tend to suspend deeper. Obviously, you need the space to make the cast, but otherwise it would work fine.

      @@InTheSpread hey so in this video you mention how saltwater rods would be too fast for musky setup; so what about a glass rod? im lookn into the orvis 8wt superfine glass for smallmouth streamers and the occasional musky bite, let me know what you think please thanks.

    What loop knot do you use for the fly end of the rio wire bite? Just a non slip mono loop or something different? I’ve noticed issues of reduction in breaking strength and looking for a better knot to use.

    You mentioned 9wt...is that ample?...whats the best over all rod wt for 6in to 8in flys?

    • @InTheSpread
      @InTheSpread  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It really depends on the size fish you may encounter and the weight of the flies. An 11 wt may be more suited for heavier fly patterns and if there are much bigger fish in the system you are fishing, then a 12 wt is the answer.

    the way keeps that musky in the net is embarrassing. obviously it cant breathe. take care of the fish, man. also get an appropriate sized net

    • @InTheSpread
      @InTheSpread  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      the fish is in the net for all of 10 seconds and we always take care of them, so they swim away vigorously.
