  • The ACT Indigenous Health Champion, Dr. Wayne Clarke, is also Co-Chair of the ACT Indigenous Health Committee, along with Co-Chair Dr. Wanda Phillips-Beck, First Nations, Canada Research Chair (CRC) in Indigenous Nursing, University of Manitoba.
The committee is also made up of: DR. Florence Glanfield, Metis, U of Alberta; Dr. Tracey Hillier, Mí'kmaq, U of Alberta; Dr. Melanie Morris, Metis, U of Manitoba; and non-Indigenous individuals who have spent many years working in Indigenous communities, such as Dr. Francois de Wet, Territorial Chief of Staff, Nunavut.
Indigenous Peoples in Canada have limited experience in clinical trials. There is no standardized method for engaging First Nations, Inuit, and Métis about their distinct and diverse needs in the area of clinical research. Building relationships among academic institutions and regulatory bodies with these groups is necessary for meaningful and culturally appropriate input.
