Yeti SB140 | A Trail Ripper, But With a Flawed Spec

  • Yeti's second 650b bike of 2019 is a 140mm-travel trail ripper. 2018 was the year of the 29er for Yeti, releasing the well-reviewed SB130 and SB150. This year, the Colorado company is bringing back 27.5in bikes, with the SB165 released earlier this month, and now the more trail-focussed SB140 has been announced.
    The SB140 has - no prizes for guessing this - 140mm of rear wheel travel that’s teamed with a 160mm travel Fox 36 fork in all models. The head angle is 65 degrees and the effective seat angle is 77 degrees, nodding to its all-round trail bike intentions.

      you have a SB130 and prefer the 140? how did the 140 do on technical descents?

    • @derektaylor2845
      @derektaylor2845 3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      @@jtudawest I like it better on everything other than sitting in the saddle trying to get PRs. It seems the 130 is better at pedaling in the saddle otherwise the 140 is much better when you can be up maneuvering the bike around under you. If you dabble in enduro and want a one bike quiver get the 140 and if you dabble in XC and need a one bike quiver get the 130. The 130 doesn't change direction as fast and doesn't accelerate as fast. I find those two things much more essential in enduro over pedal efficiency. I might save one second on a straight with a 130 but will save multiple seconds over techy twisty terrain that requires the bike to be more agile.

      5010? Tallboy? Pivot Trail 429? Specialized ST? There are a ton of bikes out there for what you’re looking for. This is still a trail bike, albeit a big trail bike that can hang with the enduro sleds. A great all-rounder for those of us that do have those bigger features but don’t race and sometimes ride more mellow stuff too. My rig is similar- V3 Bronson- does it all, still poppy and fun and can ride from more mellow trails around home to trails around house in mountains with big gnar to bike parks. If you don’t have mountains sounds like a road trip is in order? If you ever out western Maryland/PA/VA/ West Virginia hmu and we’ll ride some nice gnarly singletrack.

      Peter Briganti nonsense. The Canyon and YT have won their fair share of bike of the tests etc. The Yeti is great, but you can get a ripper of a bike for substantially less money,and for the average trail rider, buying the yeti is not going to turn you into a riding God. Also, more maintenance for the SI system. I ride a Giant Trance, all £2,600 of it. Alloy frame, Taiwanese. I’m no riding hero, but I regularly pass Yeti riders on my trails. If you have the spare cash, great, buy the Yeti, go ride. But don’t tell me the Canyon’s and YT’s are a worse bike cuz they are cheaper.

      They have suspension designs that are inferior to SI... Not saying that makes them worth the price though.

    165 no question. I don’t understand why anyone would buy a small yeti bike. $5399+ for a bike with little travel??? I don’t get it, give me the most capable bike you have. I will trim weight off myself b4 sacrificing suspension. I see the 130 140 and 150 and I’m just like what a waste of carbon!

      The 150 and the 165 will make many trails that are fun, pretty lame and boring... Bigger isn't always better... Yes, I know from experience.

      Depends on the terrain my friend. If it’s flatter and flowy without gnar, a ride on a 165 is gonna be dreadful.
